Re: baseball

franseca just made a great point, cancel the mets game tonight. you cant have a NY ball player die and play a NY game 5 hours later.

#725232Post 84 of 321

Re: baseball

Play the game. It was a Yanks pitcher, not a Mets pitcher. They don't stop games when other players from other teams die. Not trying to be harsh, but, srsly.

Re: baseball

LIttle bullpen meltdown/offenseive breakout there last night. Shame because it was a very tight game that got out of hand at the very end. Mets D was not solid enough and when you give a team like the Cards extra outs they will beat you with them. We also used a lot of our pitching in the 2nd of 5 straight games so there could be repercussions in the next few days.

It only gets tougher from here so this is the gut check for the Mets, prove you belong here or go make a tee time with the Yankees.

#726843Post 87 of 321

Re: baseball

Can you say ass whopping? Like I said, gut check and the Mets had none tonight. As if still stunned that they lost last night-- news flash-- this is the playoffs, you're not going to win every game. Not to take away from Suppon who pitched a great game (and hit one too, FFS), but the Mets looked flat from the first inning and had no swagger, no smiles, just dead.

I'm looking to WIllie to be the skipper and put their heads back in this series. The Cards stole all of the momentum in this series so we need a spark to get back and even this shit up. Tomorrow can go either way as far as starting pitching goes, so we need to shrug off these two losses and play like we know how.

Fucking Spizeo--- pull those clown pubes off your chin.

Re: baseball

ugh. just got home from Game 4 at Busch. What an ass-kicking that was.

Game tomorrow is key -- if Weaver can bring us a win at home, I feel pretty confident that Carp or Suppan can win one of the two in NY. Both might be a tall order, though...

Re: baseball

Ah, like busting a nut after not getting any for a while, that felt good. Mets back on stride, 3 game series which will go back to Shea no matter what. It's on fuckers!! :D Beltran! Delgado!! Even the Valentine gets in on the fun.

WTF am I the only one posting in this thread anymore? :| Me and Toasty might as well take it to PM. Don't give up just because the rest of your teams suck

Re: baseball

fucking awesome! surprised most at the pitching of the cards this post season, namely, weaver. stellar work so far for a staff that was just pretty okay during the regular season. back to ny tho, still going to be hard to close it out there.

will be curious to see what the writers say about pujols tomorrow. :p

#730845Post 101 of 321

Re: baseball

I feel real good about the series at this point. We have to win one of two with Carpenter and Suppan -- sure, it's in NY, but with that being the unavoidable fact of the matter, having those two gives us a great chance to succeed, IMO.

And incidentally, this has been a very interesting series. Lots of good games (except for Sunday), and constantly shifting momentum. In light of the way things have gone, the Cards need to close things out tomorrow...

Re: baseball

maine better game up tonight i want a good game. carpentier is what you expect, but john maine can be fucking phenomenal too. he proved that already. i dont want a 7-2 cards win here. i want a 2-2 game going into the 8th.

#731660Post 104 of 321

Re: baseball

happens every year in the national league it seems. the AL world series team gets there lightning quick and the NLCS teams beat each other up so there's nothing left when they get to the WS. :)

#731681Post 105 of 321

Re: baseball

:) Maine did it, working out of jams is so key. Not only because you obviously get out but also because it establishes a tone for the game and the Cards really lost steam after failing to score with the bases loaded twice early in the game.

Wagner comes in to give me a heart attack in his usual non-save shitfest. If Spezio came to bat, there wouldn't be a game 7. BTW, I love the greating he got from the crowd when he came to bat in the 2nd! :)

#731698Post 106 of 321

Re: baseball

maine was unreal. i have been going on and on about this kid all year, and he comes through. fook.yes. wagner sucks, and yet again, reyes proved he is the best player ont he team, not beltran. god damn that kid reminds me of a young jeter with mroe speed, little differences.

maine's post game news conference was great. you can see something about him that makes him great for NY, smart ass remarks, but nothing mean, just humor and wit. he is focused on the mound, makes pitches when he needs to.

tonight.play or go home. cant ask for more. ('cept an AL series going 7 too)

#731714Post 107 of 321

Re: baseball

when we left bases loaded in the first i knew it was going to be that kind of night.

#731737Post 108 of 321

Re: baseball

that sucked. gotta give it up to Maine, tho, he pitched quite a game, esp. for a rookie in a tough spot. We looked awful up until the 9th, but by that time, it was too little, too late.

I'll be curious to see if Rolen starts tonight. He's looked really flat at the plate this postseason, and even his defense was subpar last night. He did come through with a big hit in the 9th last night, and they'll almost certaily be facing a lefty, so that might solidify his spot...

#731740Post 109 of 321

Re: baseball

 1. rolen will ask to be traded, as not just the FOX assholes are saying he hasnt spoken a word to his teammates this series.

 2. larussa is a dickhead, i watched the post games, and frankly, this guy doesnt give anyone credit. he over manages everything, and drags the game out so badly. he is good, but overrated and annoying.

 3. yet another line item for NY media to destroy albert last night. his reaction to ''pujols sucks'' chants was caught on the TV, and just gave NY more fire.

 4. ekstein is an extremely underrated feilder outside of st lou.s

Re: baseball

clutch time for cards. was disappointed to listen to the game on the way home last night. thought the cards would have it. good luck Jenks and Toasty, I hope your teams wins tonight. They are one of the few teams that actually deserve to be in the WS.
kobe, at 345 yesterday i was talking to my boy phil, i DIE hard, life long mets fan. he was glass half empty yesterday though. oh yeah, FYI, i dont talk shit to him cuz i he respects the game like i do, i.e. he can watch an arizona, tampa bay game like me and enjoy it. but back to business. he was all depressed about hernandez and i told him ''dude, maine is your best pitcher on the staff, (something i have been saying since his second start and i noticed how much he reminds me of rivera), and he will go 6 and give up 3". well if willy didnt pull him, he was gonna make me look me bad, but dude, that kid is a stud. if they dont have him in the rotation next year, the ACLU should investigate minaya's racial hiring practices if sanchez is in there instead.
glad to see that the reporters and omar minaya were listening to me, cuz today in the NY papers, a few of them compare maine to rivera in style. damn, im good.

Re: baseball

for the mets fans

i am listening to the fan right now here in NY. caller calls in and gives the perfect situation...

10 run lead in the 9th. 2 outs. pujols on deck. willie brings in glavine to drill albert, then pick him off at first to win... hahahhahhahaha.

what this series boils down to is this:

we're both essentially playing for the chance to get our asses kicked in the world series.

I dunno, I think Detroit has been riding a tidal wave of momentum which now has to somehow sustain itself during a week long hiatus. I agree that the Mets/Cards are slugging it out to the death and the Tigers will be rested, but this is still the same team that stumbled their way into the playoffs... without that Yankee beating momentum, they are no juggernaut.

Re: baseball

add in the fact that the tigers are playing great small ball and can throw 5 aces at you.... one being in the pen with zumaya. and thier staff in general is the best there is right now.
