Re: 2nd half of baseball.

man, i was hoping the big unit was going to pitch a no-hitter... he shouldn't have shook off all those signs from jorge and he might have struck iguchi out. oh well.... that's why no hitters are rare.
shit.fuck.wow......... ross and the redlegs pull one from their proverbial asses in the bottom of the ninth to beat the cards. just got home from bedlam at great american. that kinda game makes the pain of 6+ dollar shit beers, the voucher for the dave concepcion bobblehead (they didn't have enough) and parking 15 blocks uphill away all worth while...
Re: 2nd half of baseball.

Anybody been watching Greg Maddux pitch lately?

That guy is my favorite pitcher ever. Dude has zero heat. In my lifetime, i have not witnessed anyone master ball placement like he has. He defines pitching for me. He's like 90 years old and he's still flinging a wiffle ball out there. Respect.

#689615Post 85 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

tell me you saw that webgem he had... fucking amazing feilding pitcher. best i have ever seen. mo' is good, but maddux is god in feilding on the mound.

#690023Post 86 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

^ and so I hope he can help the Dodgers out for the run and Bills for that matter. I think Chad can become an exceptional pitcher in the future.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

dude, the AL races are sick. every day and night something changes because a non superstar does something big.. should go right down to the wire/.

next week, the yanks and bosox have a HUGE 5 gamer up in beantown..

WOW!!! did you see him pitch 8 scoreless yesterday? I'm a Cubs fan and I hate to see him go but if he gets a chance to play in playoffs this late in his career then go for it. He pitched a GREAT game yesterday!

#690756Post 89 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

^ yeah, great game. i'm glad the dodgers didn't blow it for him when they took him out. both pitchers from both teams were very on point. pretty boring game from an offensive perspective.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

ummm.. ok,, its official.... every single division outside of NL east is up for grabs now... this is why i love baseball.. a few weeks ago every mets and cards fan were booking thier playofff tickets, and now, the cards might not even get in, the mets look a little worse with glavine pitching shitty and their setup man in a car accidetn, and delgado and wright arent hitting for shit. the yanks and bosox are neck in neck in two races if you add the whitesox, detroit and twinkies into it... wow... i love baseball.

seriously, watching baseball tonight everyday, paying attention to the things like utley's streak, manny is on one as well, watching webgems every night...nothing beats it..

#690785Post 91 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

it's good to see the cards are putting some streaks together!!

11 game loosing streak...

3 game loosing streak....

The only consistency on this team is Rolen, Eckstein, and Pujols. That's not enough.

P.S. - Chris Duncan is going to be a very good ball player for this organization in the future.

#690800Post 92 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

Jesus... 68 pitches in 8 innings for Maddux yesterday. Thats insane for anyone much less somebody that is 40yrs old. I hope he gets a chance to go to the post season. IMO I don't think that LA is good enough to make the World Series but it would be nice.

#690815Post 93 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

with a streak like 16 out of 17, thats good enough to get to the world series, imo. plus they have just a sick team, period. i think they are the only ones that pose a threat to the mets at this point.

#690838Post 94 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

to jenks and jimbo... im gonna be fair here, cuz i have been watching the cards more and more. (we bought the MLB package. every game, everyday. 27 channels of nothing but baseball.)

personally, i think the team if having a silly hard time with small ball. it might be possible that with the big boy and rolen and edmunds, larussa has fallen in love with the long ball>? also, it shows more and more with this team and its depth, is that larussa overmanages. a lot. the staff is so tired and its showing, particularly with izzie. i dont see any more hit and run, not enough baserunning,. and a far less aggressive team than last year, but on paper , they should be right there with the mets. maybe if they drop a game back, the would be role players will begin to push thier game. the team is right there, it just needs to click. and with the healthy mix of veterans, rolen and edmunds singled out, they will pick up the team.

#690865Post 95 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

i haven't watched st louis very much.... that sucks if the cards can't handle small ball, seeing as that is tony larussa's style. they've always been the premiere team when it comes to that.

I hope so. I forgot that they traded for Julio Jugo also from my home team D-rays. I just think the Mets are too deep but who knows. Its a brand new season when the playoffs start. I think Cincy is playing pretty damn good also.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

yanks win bosox lose

and OMFG, pedro leaves game after a shallackin and they say he has a strained right calf.......... could philly or atl give it a hardcore run?

missed everything else.

#691069Post 98 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

tbs said sunday if the mets went 24-23 for the rest of the season, the braves would have to go 41-6... highly unlikely the braves will catch the mets. but that would be sweet/funny.

#691087Post 99 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

3 game series with cinci starting tonight. I either want us to sweep them, or them to sweep us. Anything else will just be mediocre baseball. If the latter happens, maybe that's the 'back against the wall' we need.

#691090Post 100 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

Well all I hope for is for the Dodgers to continue their winnings and win their division. It seems like we would be facing either Cini or the Cards. I would rather prefer the Reds as the Cards really did a number on us this season.. and last.

But it would be interesting to see what this "new" team would be able to do against St. Louis in the post season; they really dont look like that ugly team back in July.

Yep. One way or the other, it's go time. This piss-poor baseball has got to come to a stop.

I'm going to the game tonight; Carp's on the mound, so I'm hoping for a good outing from our Birds. Been a frustrating span, though...

#691126Post 102 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

i was listening to local sports AM this morning and they hit the nail on the head: What makes this Cards team so frustrating is they can't decide if they're good or bad. Lack of any consistency is so frickin annoying for fans.

I want the Cards to be good or bad. This middle of the road shit is the worst because it just makes you ask questions, often the same ones, over and over and over again.

#691131Post 103 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

At this point I almost hope they tank it so I can avoid wasting money on playoff tickets that I know aren't going to lead to anything good. Also, perhaps if they miss the payoffs, it will rile people up enough that the Cards' ownership will be compelled to make some more serious moves in the off-season -- as it stands, they really don't have much incentive to upgrade the team, because they're selling out every single game anyway. Hell, they actually had to stop selling season tickets during the offseason because they sold so many tickets.

you said it. i just googled arod snakes plane and it found this... snakes on a plane is taking over baseball.
Snakes On A Plane

I just stepped out for a beer with a friend who had been stranded in the loop by a fire on the Blue Line. The tavern in question had on the All-Star Game, as you would expect, and said bar had filled up with patrons representing many non-Chicago major league franchises. As a result there was an occasional smattering of applause for Vlad's HR, and David Wright's HR, and a few impressive pitches. At some point, however, the bar erupted into unanimous cheering and applause. As I turned to see what the commotion was about, I was not confronted by A-Rod or Big Papi, but by Samuel L. Jackson shooting a harpoon at a cobra.

They were applauding the trailer for Snakes on a Plane.

I've never seen anything like it.

This thing could be huge.
Re: 2nd half of baseball.

-Nice work Carpenter! Way to sack up and bring one for the team. Hope that was enough of a statement for the rest of the team to follow suit.

-LOL@ the Royals beating the White Sox.

-I feel like today is the beginning of the claiming of the AL East. This 5 game series, imo, will ultimately decide who's got the nuts in that division.

#691568Post 108 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

wonderful point my son.

all season long, the edge was the red sox, and its still really up in the air. we need to see who beckett really is, will he be clemens, or will he be more like and aging tom glavine. he has given up entirely too many home runs this season, but he still has those days where he goes off for 12 strikeouts and 4 hits over 8. papelbom has come back to earth as well. but again, with the 1-2 punch at 3-4 they can beat anyone. but right now, the yanks, and anyone who watched them will agree, have a swagger. with guys like cano back, abreau up there, arod slowly copming around, and with the role guys like wilson, cabrera, proctor, etc, playuing big. ronb villone is there too. and we still have the guy who should have a few cy youngs and MVPs already in mariano. the single most important player since ted williams for a team. also, we got octavio dotel back today. huge addition late in games. we now have 4 guys who can go 2 inning and act the closer roles with farnsworth, rivera, proctor, and dotel.

the team to watch right now, as of about an hour ago, is the mets. they just put pedro back on the DL, they have lost 2 stright in terrible manner, wright and degado are still in deep slumps. glavine is still getting hit hard and billy wagner lets 2 guys on base every day he pitches. also, add in the fact that aaron heilelman is forced to be thier 8th inning guy, and hates not being a starter, let alone being put into the 2nd most important reliver position. also, reyes, has been getting into his troubles with trying to hit homeruns rather than getting on base.

the cards better pick it up beofre they are looking at cincy and playing to get in.' ' NL west, well, the dogers are like NBA jam right now, ON FIRE> Dr. Maddux is basically throwing no hitters every game,. their defense in playing on top of it, and with nomar and kent back,,, well its only gonna get better and piazza and padres better keep thier eyes peeled.

the most important thing to keep watch on , IMHO, is the astros. if they get in, with those 3 guys names roy, andy, and roger... all 3 have post season heads, with hall of fame arms. and thier lineup, while very inconsistent, has shown it can blow up big time.

AL central.. personally i dont think leyland will let them falter much, he has thier pulse and is like torre with that team, he knows what to say to whom, and when to say it. so its up to the twins and sox, with a little yanks help,. to knock the Bosox out of the fucking playoffs and give jeter the AL MVP award.

#691572Post 109 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

Good post, except Papi deserves AL MVP imo.

#691578Post 110 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

not if they dont get there. jeter actually has more hits with runner in scoring posotion. surprisingly, no one is mentioning mauer, this dude is acatcher, clutch as shit, maybe moreso than ortiz, its just that ortix hits the homers. jeter is all over the place in every stat but the HR. and they should make the payoffs, the sox dont get in and ortiz is outta the talk, and its between jeter and mauer.

nope. i was telling my friend that about this same time of year last year...and look what happened.

one thing is good tho, it looks as if Pujols successfully ended Brad Lidge's career. lol. One of the most dominant closers in the game just isn't the same since game 6. And it just keeps on going...blown his last 5 saves.

#691662Post 114 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

YEAH, and it took a few monster homers to do it. the cards were shitting themselves in that series. oswalt was fooking nasty, and pettite's track record is there already. and roger. well. you must be european if you dont know who he is.

#691706Post 115 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

i have to admit that i have been completely ignoring the NL this year. the AL is SO much better. between the AL East and Central my plate is completely full. i can't wait to see who comes out on top between the red sox and yanks. my money is on the yanks though. in the AL central Detroit will easily take the division, but with my Twinks battling the White Sox and whoever comes in 2nd in the East its going to be VERY interesting to see who gets the wild card.

any of the AL representatives in the playoffs will have a shot at winning the World Series this year. fucking exciting as hell!
