Re: World Cup 2006

Interesting game between Korea and Togo. Korea didn´t look too convincing though, but I guess experience payed off this time.

Now, in one hour´s time, I hope to see "les frogs" losing.

Nope, Trinidad & Tobago had one, though it followed 2 yellow cards.

For anyone that watched the S.Korea and Togo match, were the cards issued to Abalo in the 22 and 52 minute legitimate?

I didn?t see the 1st one, to be honest, but the 2nd one was given because he did a foul when there was a clear goal chance happenning.

Re: World Cup 2006

Well France vs. Switzerland ended 0-0 both teams had chances but the swiss had the better ones. Not a very atractive game the french look like they have no clue what to do with the ball when Zidane isnt holding it.

Re: World Cup 2006

Well, Croatia won a new fan tonight : me.

Brasil were disappointing to say the least. They have the excuse that they played with 10 men most of the game, but that?s still no reason for the indulgent way in wich they played, as if the ball would get in Croatia?s goal by itself just by hearing "I?m brasilian, bitch!".

The problem with Brasil is that even when they play like shit, they have 3-4 players who can decide a game individually. If Ronaldinho isn?t on point, then Kaka is, if Ronaldo isn?t doing well, then they have Adriano, and they can afford to bench a player like Robinho.

On the other hand, Croatia played beautifully...and I mean that even aesthetically...it was almost as if THEY were the brasilians on the pitch tonight...shame about the poor finishing. But they showed what you have to do to beat Brasil : you play fast, first touch football, with great pressure all over the field, to recover the ball fast. Brasil are the best in the world when they have the ball, but they?re only reasonable when they don?t have it, especially the the wings are fragile (mainly Cafu?s side)...and of course, that might still not be enough..you hve to hope that their star players are playing below their standard.

Big applause to the Croatian supporters too, who kept pushing for their team even when losing, and a huge boooo to Ronaldo, who seemed like he went into that pitch to take a stroll...if I was Brasil?s coach, he?d NEVER play a game for my team again.

Final notes : France sucks...Zidane can?t do everything, no quality whatsoever anywhere else in that team. Final notes 2 : the brasilian over here are already making a racket, as if they won the cup already. I think I?m gonna tell some of them to fuck off.

Re: World Cup 2006

hey croatia did play very well ..they took the game to the brasilians...brasil played ok ..but hey are definatly coasting untill it really matters...

Re: World Cup 2006

croatia were great. Too bad they lost such a close game. Their fans were incredible!! I loved the energy they had until the very end, it was inspiring, and would have been magnificent to see in person.

Ronaldo... even when they subbed him out it took him 20 minutes to get off the field. They were trying to set him up, even just pass to him. His touches were bad.

Kaka was amazing. I have watched him play many times before, but never seen him blow past people with such speed. He must have been working his ass off in preparation I think.

Re: World Cup 2006

We cheered for Kroatia as well. :) They so deserved to make the 1:1. Both Brazil and France did not play good yesterday. Ronaldo and Zidane are just a shadow of what they used to be.

Here are some pics I made with my cell phone at the public viewving point yesterday evening:

Croatia played great. IMO, best game so far. That game had the atmosphere of a 2nd round game. shame that Brazil (Brasil) won.

Even though they lost, the Pols redeemed themselves of their 1st game disgrace.

I trust the US Team will be able to do the same this Saturday.

Re: World Cup 2006

German police hold 300 in clashes

BBC - More than 300 people are in police custody after a World Cup match between Germany and Poland sparked clashes.

Violence flared ahead of the game in Dortmund, which Germany won 1-0 and organisers had long identified as a high-risk fixture. About half of those arrested were German and half Polish, police said, with a handful of Dutch also held. They include some 70 known hooligans arrested earlier in the day with the help of Polish police. All those arrested will be held for up to 24 hours, and then may face police charges.

'Bottles thrown' German police spokeswoman Saskia Schneider told the BBC officers were initially sent to the Alter Markt to deal with troublemakers. "It started when the police were about to arrest a number of violent hooligans in the city centre. This situation led to attacks on the police," she said.

"Then it spilled over and different fan groups started attacking each other." About 120 fans threw bottles and chairs at police. Officers were then seen chasing some fans through the main square, the Hansa-Platz. Earlier, liaison between German and Polish officers had led to dozens of arrests. Polish police captain Rafal Wasaik said: "We have arrested people who we believed could cause trouble. They were recognised by my Polish colleagues." About 30,000 Poles were expected in Dortmund for the game.

Poland finished in 3rd place twice in the world cup, so I hardly would include them with those other countries. They just don't have the players like they use to such as Boniek. These past 2 world cups they palyed horrible but what can you do?

I am pissed that my cable went out 30 minutes into the 2nd half and missed the winning goal. :x Looks like Germany is in like Flynn.

Today's match between England and Trinidad looks interesting.
