Re: World Cup 2006
all and all it was enjoyable... nice to see poland start to play in the 86th minute.... when is the last time they actually scored a goal in world cup?.... pretty obvious that germany and ecuador will move on.
last world cup they beat the US 3 - 0

I was dissapointed with Poland's play. they looked very clumsy.

Re: World Cup 2006
^^ i dont know.. costa rica keeps playing it through to Wanchope the way they did today, and defences keep playing the offside trap (yeah that second goal was offsides, but it only takes one ref screw up) Germany surely out classed them, but they must have some confidence now.. and poland was awful.. and ecuador didnt look THAT strong.. could be Germany and CRC
Germany didn't outclass them. They were a lot better. Lehmann sucks IMO, so it will be interesting to see them play a good team. 2 awesome goals in that game too.

After the 1st half of England, I can't believe it is only 1 - 0. England is outplaying Paraguay hands down.

Re: World Cup 2006

^^ they didnt? what match were you watching..

england sneaks through in a typical uneventful match.. what the hell happened to the Paraguay keeper? i think his pride was hurt more than anything.. he wasnt even limping coming off the pitch crying like a girl

Outplaying Paraguay? :what

I think England didn?t play for shit. Luckily Paraguy were very inneficient in attack, because for most of the 2nd alf england could barely create any chances or even build up a decent play after the midfield line.

England have a very strong defense, but, despite having also excellent players in the midfield, they need to solve this duplicity between Lampard and Gerrard. They are too similar and it?s a crime to have one playing 2nd fiddle to the other. so they need someone behind them (even if it is shitty Hargreaves, but maybe Carragher would be a better choice), to free them to construct a triangle on the midfield. Then you have Beckham and Cole who supposedly play on the wings, but they always fall back to the middle. So you have 4 players in the midfiled and none of them are particularly good at recovering the ball, and even when they do, there?s no one open on the wings. So they?re left to play long balls for that brick Crouch to bounce back balls to a midfielder coming from the back...not very good strategy against stronger teams in the latter stages...

That said, the Chelsea players (say what you will of Chelski) were, IMO, the best players in the English team today.

Re: World Cup 2006
what the hell happened to the Paraguay keeper?
Dude, I think he had a mental breakdown being scored on so quickly. Though England won and some may say Paraguay is a force to be dealt with, England by far played a lax and reserve game. It was the 1st game and they were risking no injury and they still did well against Paraguay’s bunkered defense by dumping some amazing shots on goal.

Also, WTF is up with Crouch? That bean pole needs to earn Yellow cards by game play, not mouthing off to the official.

In addition… the commentator and HD for ABC “Amateur Broadcast Corporation” was fucking atrocious. I thought I was listening to the commentation of a fucking baseball game. HD also was flaking out every 10 minutes or so + ABC kept starting the match in without HD enabled… ugh!!

Good Match All!

Re: World Cup 2006

yeah, the commentators for the England match, Balboa and that other wanker were dreadful.. just talking about useless shite.. calling Beckham, Michael Beckham.. and calling England Germany at one point.. also how about Paraguays captain talking about England being the 3rd best team in that group, and then putting the ball in his own net, lol.. nice one!

anyway.. how about this Sweden - TnT match.. not bad at all, best match so far IMO

#651799Post 87 of 725

Re: World Cup 2006

wow, well done TnT.. 10 men totally unexpected result.. great match!

Re: World Cup 2006

^^ I only said the 1st half. England played horrible in the 2nd half.

As for the commentators, Univision is the way to go. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL The world cup is where I catch up on my Spanish. Not to mention to women on the pregame shows. Where to they find such hotties? :HolyShit:

ABC commentators suck...... Univision!!!!!!!

Now lets go Argentina and don't fuck things up like last word cup.

Re: World Cup 2006

Aregentina got lucky. I'll take the win. They played lazy. Good thing Ivory Coast couldn't score. They were a lot better than I thought.

Why did they take out Crespo? That Placio dude sucked. And why isn't Tevez playing?

Re: World Cup 2006

they won the african group... i expected them to create some trouble. palacio sucked because he had to play alone on the offensive, and he's not used to that kind of tasks. wanted to see Messi too

Re: World Cup 2006

I´m not used to see Argentina play as if they were Italians..

Thy scored 2 goals but did little more than that and just tried to keep the game under control, with no real initiative or attacking football.

This is not the type of Argentiniam team I grew up supporting....

Riquelme is great though...he doesn´t move much but every touch of his on that football is pure class. You could give the guy a comfy chair for him to sit in the midfiled and he´d still be great.

I couldn't agree with you more. They seemed lazy and didn't look like they were even into it. Imagine if Ivory Coast had goal scorers on their team. Aregentina would have lost. Its like they had no emotion. It should have been 3 goals too. Either way, I will take the 3 points 8) .

Re: World Cup 2006

morning. :HungOver:

God the Games are only on since 2 days and I probably drank more beer than in the last 2 months together. I am sure I am not the only Zombie tomorrow at work though lol. I witnessed the Game England vs. Paraguay live in the Stadium and was pretty dissapointed with what England showed their fans. Without the own goal from Paraguay, they would have had a very hard time beating them. So far, all big countries (including Germany) had a hard time against "smaller" countries and I hope it continues like this because that`s what makes Football interesting. :D Last night we had a hell of a party with fans from the Ivory coast in the middle of Frankfurt...drums drums drums. I met so many different people travelling 1000's of miles to see the Games..it?s insane. What Politics can't do speaking of uniting people...Football can. 8)

Pics or STFU they say so....

Re: World Cup 2006

I´ve got my beer and my chips ready, the whole country is dressed in red and green, almost every window has a flag.

This game has big local significance : until 1975 Potugal was Angola´s colonizing country, that ended after a 12 year war for Angola´s independence. Today, there´s tens of thousands Angolan immigrants here. This will be Angola´s game of a lifetime and I hope no violence occurs. The only time these two teams played, 4 years ago, it was a battle...the game didn´t even reach the 90 minutes, due to the ammount of sent-off Angolan players.

Re: World Cup 2006

Portugal and Angola.. was a fucking disaster. It's the World Cup folks, step up the game play.

Iran and Mexico, very nice.. Iran was hungry for it and I favored their win, good game none the less.

Re: World Cup 2006

portugal didnt go into that match a bit over confident did they?

angola played scrappy, but 1-0 is NOT thew result any one expected there.

the holland v SnM match was a bit boring too.. Robben is a fucking ball hog he had a great match, but if he wasnt so greedy that could have been 3-0 easily
portugal didnt go into that match a bit over confident did they?

I?m not gonna say that I like this result...we got the 3 points and that?s all, but we played too conservatively.

But believe me, we did NOT go in there over confident. In fact, I would say we were too realistic. You have to understand that Portugal has a tradition of doing badly against supposedly weaker teams in big competitions (just look at WC 2002), so I?m happy we are not underestimating our opponents. Our coach is going out of his way to say this "don?t take them for fools". Also read my post above : this was Angola?s game of a lifetime, and they won?t run as much in the next 2 games.

I don?t mind winning every game 1-0. Football is not figure skating. How different was our victory from Argentina?s win or England?s win?

I fear a little bit Ghana. All african team have the ability to defeat every team.

Portugal could have lost that game easily. They played horrible, and lost is the best word to describe it. There was no unity on their team yesterday. For them it is a big difference than last WC. They didn't lose.

Re: World Cup 2006

Deco will play in the next game.

But his absence doesn?t explain everything about this poor performance. I mean, Cristiano Ronaldo needs to eat some humble pie, or we?ll have problems...everyone knows he?s good, he doesn?t need to put on his own private circus act to prove it

I?m very curious about Italy?s game tonight, let?s see how one of the favourites perform. USA vs. Czechs should be interesting too. Becoming a regular on this board for the past few years has made me root for the USA.8)

Awesome game in an awesome Stadium (ok I am biased here as it is my hometown stadium in Kaiserslautern where I grew up lol). I bet Johns and Grant made a wave in Australia for that lol. \o/

Now let´s wait what the US boys are up to and this evening I will watch the Game Italy vs. Ghana on a public viewing spot in the city with 300.000 other Maniacs. :D
