Re: World Cup 2006

This is the major event of this year and I can't wait for it to get started. My money is on Brazil but I would really like to see an underdog come out and win. Only 2 days and counting...

Re: World Cup 2006

We start tomorrow without Michael Ballack sadly because he is injured but Costa Rica should be beatable with or without him. Tomorrow, directly after work I drive to a BBQ with friends on a garden terrace and watch the opening ceremony and the Games together on the telly and on Saturday I will be watching the Game England vs. Paraguay in the Stadium in my hometown. :D

It will be the only time I can see a Game live but I am thankful for the one ticket I was able to get ahold of. :RightOn:

Next weeks here will be fun fun fun!

Re: World Cup 2006

just glad it looks as though Rooney may be fit for at least one of the group matches, maybe even two if he can train fully today or tomorrow!

I feel USA has a very very tough group to get out of, dont see them making it to the knock out round to be honest.. Germany may not even make it out of their group.. ;)

#651235Post 53 of 725

Re: World Cup 2006

Sven said on the radio today that Rooney had no injury anymore, that to me sounds like he may play in the group matches too. God I hope so.

Re: World Cup 2006

OK Chubbies!!! The world cup is here!!! After well over a year of real 'can't wait' type waiting, it's here!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it.....

M€M you are correct, so much talent. Ivory coast, drogba, eboue, toure. Messi, crespo, riquelme, sorin, tevez, aimar..... Kaka, Ronnie, Ronaldo, Adriano, Juninho... Marquez... Deco... Henry, Zidane, Ribery......Xavi, Iniesta, Torres, Raul, Puyol...damn!!!!... hell even Terry, Crouch, Gerrard...and Gatuso, Nesta, Totti etc.... and Shevchenko, Nedved, Barosh... I'm sure I'm forgetting many.. any of them can be world cup heroes, we just get to sit back and watch whom will be the starts

Rooney has a fat head. He will be proven to suck. Sorry to insult anyone here, but it's MHO, you know??

Also, I can't wait for the US and Mexico's destruction at the hands of teams with true CLASS!! I hope spain can get it together for the first time in, I don't know, their history, and do well... I hope the ref's don't fuck anything up, and the best team wins!!!

Re: World Cup 2006

People who know me know I´m a patriot and I stand up for my country all the time (even though I loathe most of it´s inhabitants), but I´m very skeptical about Portugal´s performance in this World Cup...:what

Sure, all the world expects great things from guys like Cristiano Ronaldo and Deco, but I think Ronaldo´s success has gotten to his head...in our last two friendly games he had actions that would´ve gotten him an immediate red card in a serious game...after being tackled or losing the ball to an opponent, he "attacked" the other teams players on 3 different occasions...:x

Also, most of our players are too full of themselves and the fact that we are playing against theorically weaker teams ALWAYS turns against us...we go in to the pitch thinking it´s gonna be a stroll in the park and we end up being humiliated (anyone remembers Portugal losing to USA in the 2002 WC? ). I believe we´ll see Figo playing his best tournament ever, trying to lead the team (he seems to be on great form!), but ultimately we will fail.

And it´s gonna be a tragedy over here, basically...the support over here is hysterical right now, every house has a flag on the window and this is all everyone talks about, as if it´s our nation´s salvation.

Re: World Cup 2006

Talk about pressure...I am sure our journalists already have their reports ready. They only need to edit the name of the Team Germany lost against and the date in...they are hungry for their own Team to fail...we live in a crazy world nowadays. Football is neither the Salvation from problems nor is it the ultimate cause.

this line alone dismisses your whole post as utter bollocks.. it is obvious you know fuck all about football. so leave the footy talk to people that know what its about.. or just make a post listing a bunch of names of the football stars of the world and continue to pretend you know anything about sahkerrrrrrr.. twat
holy shit, did you see Fringes goal? what a fucking shot from about 36 metres
that was one hell of a shot!

#651509Post 69 of 725

did you see the keepers face after that one went in? kinda said what the hell was that and there's no way anyone could've stopped it. ;)

Re: World Cup 2006

stayed home to watch the opening game... was okay... lots of goals which is nice, but i think the scoreline makes the game seem a bit more exciting.

some very good goals

#651560Post 72 of 725

Re: World Cup 2006

second result was a bit of a surprise.. not a really good 1st day of the world cup IMO

#651563Post 73 of 725

Re: World Cup 2006

well they werent exactly mouth-watering fixtures. gonna watch the ecuador/poland game this evening after work.

england paraguay should be entertaining

ivory coast vs argentina should be a great game tommorow.

#651567Post 74 of 725

Re: World Cup 2006

does germany plan to keep that defense ??? they look weak. beware of Ecuador.. they have a nice and offensive style, they showed a good level against Poland today.

#651569Post 75 of 725

Re: World Cup 2006

Hmmm...a couple of goals today have already proven that these new balls FIFA has put in will give goalkeepers some trouble.

Look at the massive swerve on that last Germany goal...and it really seems like this ball is also very fast.

Teams with agile goalkeepers and good mid/long range shooters will benefit a lot.

One more reason for me to fear Portugal´s fate...:(

#651571Post 76 of 725

Re: World Cup 2006

all and all it was enjoyable... nice to see poland start to play in the 86th minute.... when is the last time they actually scored a goal in world cup?.... pretty obvious that germany and ecuador will move on.

#651585Post 77 of 725

Re: World Cup 2006

^^ i dont know.. costa rica keeps playing it through to Wanchope the way they did today, and defences keep playing the offside trap (yeah that second goal was offsides, but it only takes one ref screw up) Germany surely out classed them, but they must have some confidence now.. and poland was awful.. and ecuador didnt look THAT strong.. could be Germany and CRC

I think whole Germany goes bonkers and I LUV IT. :) It's insane what happens now in our streets...several 100.000 people in all big cities watching the Games in public viewing points making a hell of a Party together with the "opponents". :D

Nothing like having the "12th Man" around.

Anyways.. what the hell was up with Poland? Did not have it together at all yesterday. In fact it was one of the few cup matches that can put you to sleep.

On my way out to get coffee beans and get caffeinated for the 9am England match.
