Curious as to everyone's thoughts on the start-up of Iran's nuclear reactor?

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSLDE67K01D20100821
It disclosed the existence of a second enrichment plant only last year and announced in February it was enriching uranium to a level of 20 percent purity, compared to about 3.5 percent previously. This is a relatively short step from weapons-grade levels, and well above what is needed to fuel a power plant.

B -- Iran unveiled the first long-range military drone manufactured in the country on Sunday, state media reported.

The unmanned aerial vehicle is capable of carrying out bombing missions against ground targets and flying long distances at a high speed, Press TV said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended the unveiling of the drone, dubbed the "Karrar," in a ceremony marking Iran's Defense Industry Day.
Re: Iran's Reactor

I haven't got a problem with countries arming themselves. You just look at what happened in Iraq, Had Saddam really been able to launch weapons of mass destruction in under an hour there would have been no way there would have been an invasion of Iraq because Iraq would of been able to not just defend themselves but fight back.

Re: Iran's Reactor

I don't see what the big deal is either with Iran having Nukes. Everyone in the region around them has nukes why can't they defend themselves? 9/11 had nothing to do with Iran so it isn't terrorism.

The US is such a flip flop country when it comes to media. After years of propaganda about not allowing Iran to have this reactor at the last minute they flip flop and say it is ok now...

Re:

I wouldn't have a problem with this either if Ahmadinejacket hadn't stated that Israel must be "wiped off the map". I'm not buying their story that this reactor will only be used for electrical purposes either. Not to mention they named their new drone the 'Ambassador of Death'. Don't get me wrong though, I do feel that every country has the right to arm themselves if other countries are exercising the same right. However, Iran seems to have other motives. Hopefully, I'm wrong!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Ahmadinejad_and_Israel

He never said "israel must be wiped off the map". It's old news and yet you're still posting, continuing the lie 4 years on. Why is that?
Im not buying their story that this reactor will only be used for electrical purposes either.
Does it really matter? Iran will not attack or invade any country and history has shown this. If she ever did develop nukes, then they would be for defensive purposes only.
I do feel that every country has the right to arm themselves if other countries are exercising the same right. However, Iran seems to have other motives. Hopefully, I'm wrong!
What are these motives you are worried about?

What else can they say? The US doesn't have a choice in the matter. Iran will eventually develop nukes as a defensive weapon and if I was in Irans shoes, I'd be doing the exact same thing.

Re: Iran's Reactor

ahmadinejad rests under firm conviction that their auspicious clerics are in connection with their 12 imam or whatever (do some deep research on that). thier plan is islamic world domination. israel, and the u.s. are infiltrated with dissimilar but the same nefarious forces that the islamofascists are channeling; and furthermore, nationalism is a thing of the past; don't be naive; 'cos either way, a full scale religious war would surely wipe out our current civilization. think about it.

this is bull...no president actually believes in any of this shit...its population control...same as anywhere else...you gotta get along with the public opinion and they suuuuuurrrrrrreeeeee do hate Israel and the US out there

Re: Iran's Reactor

of course he's goin to play the public opinion card (like every leader since the bronze age), and pop. control is nothing new. i see ahmadinejad as just a pawn really. conspiracy quackery, and mundane politics are a thick vicissitude hookwinking even the most earnest investigations.

lol @ dig72 for quoting wikipedia on a translation that could have been done by anyone.

Giving the possibility to make a nuclear reactor to iran is like giving a shotgun to charles manson, he will use it when he can.

They say they need it for electricity... burn some oil then ffs, they piss that stuff and still wanna go nuclear? doesnt add up imo.

Hope israel blows up the nuclear reactor as they did back in the 70 or 80s if im not mistaken :)

Israel, the second country in as many years, attacked the Osirak plant in June 1981 - the first country to strike out at Iraq's nuclear capability was Iran at the end of the previous September.

As wikipedia seems to be an accepted source round here, here's what it has to say about Iran's PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE.
Iran attacked and damaged the site on September 30, 1980 with two F-4 Phantoms, shortly after the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq War. This was the first attack on a nuclear reactor and only the third on a nuclear facility in history of the world. It was also the first instance of a pre-emptive attack on a nuclear reactor to forestall the development of a nuclear weapon, though it did not achieve its objective as France repaired the reactor after the Iranian attack (Source)
Here's an idea, If you think that the translation by wiki is incorrect, then prove it wrong. Until then, the laugh is on you.
Giving the possibility to make a nuclear reactor to iran is like giving a shotgun to charles manson, he will use it when he can.
Dribble, dribble.
They say they need it for electricity... burn some oil then ffs, they piss that stuff and still wanna go nuclear? doesnt add up imo.
You don't think a nation saving it's limited resources is a good idea?
Hope israel blows up the nuclear reactor as they did back in the 70 or 80s if im not mistaken
If Israel wants the very real threat of bombs hitting Tel Avi, than she can go right ahead and attack Iran.

The end result will lead to both nations being devasted, with huge loss of life. This conflict should be avoided at all costs. Nothing good can become of it.

It's very easy to 'hope', for death and destruction, especially when your not on the receiving end of it all.

Re:

That's ok, Iranians don't speak Arabic, so it wouldn't have helped you much. Can you find anyone disputing the English translations?
i dont trust sensitive information like this and if you trust everything you read on the internet, including wikipedia im sorry for you.
You know full well it was a lie and yet shamelessly state it as 'sensitive information'. It's sad and obvious but that's alright, you keep at it.

Peanuts and Charles Manson, now they're the real problems. lol

Re: Iran's Reactor

They do speak arabic in iran, and also persian. I dont speak neither of them and i still dont trust a thing what a translation done by a person that could support iran in this "mediatic war" we are in.

I still think its just a BS reason making a nuclear reactor when they just dont need it. Maybe they should invest in solar energy or other source that doesnt have as a "side dish" enriched nuclear material.

Come on bro, a guy that denies that the holocaust existed, and attends meetings where he preaches about his hatred towards sionism and the state of israel in general is a problem for them.

How you doing? Quick question if I may, Do you agree that Iran had a right to make a pre-emptive strike against Iraq's nuclear plant in 1980?

Thanks
