Re: Do you own a Gun?? US citizens

for all the people who have guns 'for protection'.

what do you need it for? who are you protecting yourself from and why do you need that protection? are you involved in gangs, drugs, criminal activity on the level that one would kill you if you didn't pay up so you need your glock to kill the man when he comes to collect?

retarded.

maybe you live in some crime ridden crazy place? is it really THAT bad and if so why not leave? the only BADDD place for me was new orleans before katerina and phili. those 5 streets that suck shit.

i think its really sad america has such a gun culture where kids actually think having a gun is cool and killing things is fun. horrible and barbaric thinking and im proud to say i'd never have a gun in the house and i'd never allow a gun in my house.

that is where your freedom stops for me. you can smoke, drink, and shoot yourself silly with heroin, but you're not bringing a gun in my house.

not arguing with you bro. but you keep bringing up the protection part of owning a gun, where theres much much more to it. i never said you are for banning guns or anything like that. i was stating that i dont care if anyone blames me for having a gun. the woman part was in reference to women wanting a piece of me... i thought you might be interested too?

How does where I live make a difference? Not only do I not care whether Australia has a say or not, but I find your comments arrogant. You are no one, so don't try to make yourself out to be someone important.

And, I'm not talking about YOUR country, I'm talking about the right to bear arms. My opinion is not bound my country. Hence, why the 2nd amendment doesn't mean shit.

Hay guyz whad I miss?

Oh right,

Simple answer to this. The world is not utopia, bad people live in it. Guns are for protecting yourself against these said bad people, which includes a government that oppresses its citizens. Bans do nothing, so get over yourself with that garbage. The bad seeds who want the guns will still get them. There should be a better screening process of some sort to weed out stupid gun owners IMO, but the underlying point still stands:

2nd Amendment = vital to freedom

Sorry rest of the world, we know what we've been doing for 230 years now. Society changes, but human nature doesn't. Fuck off.

why is it such a struggle to get a conversation going then? seriously. i'm not a bad speaker because i voice my opinion.

i asked why people feel the need for protection. i don't feel that need. maybe living in seattle we don't get the same crazy nutters you all do, but then we did have the green river killer .. i think we all have to deal with fucked up people and fucked up situations, i just think having a gun isn't really a solution.

Protection can also be defined as resistance from tyranny. It's also beneficial to know that the 2nd amendment also correlates with John Locke's view of economic freedom, which is the ownership of private property. I'm not as anal, but if my family is threatened, there's no reason why I'm not allowed to protect my private property.

I think it's really sad america has a such a culture where a majority of the population does not understand the constitution and its significance, where at anytime the state, let alone the federal government, could undermine the people of the US and they wouldn't stop to think twice about it.
that is where your freedom stops for me. you can smoke, drink, and shoot yourself silly with heroin, but you're not bringing a gun in my house.
Well duh, if a store doesn't want anyone carrying guns in there, it has every right to reject the patron. That piece of paper many people don't know about allows you to do that. You know, the same piece of paper that will force the Supreme Court to overturn prop 8 in California.

Then what the fuck is the point of debating this issue? Clearly all you want to do is tell us Americans how we are wrong, so yes you are bound to countries, especially since you can't comprehend why we have this type of law in place. You'd rather be oblivious to our understanding and instead enforce your own idealogy upon us without any consideration of the impact that this piece of paper has had on this country, both past and present. We didn't all of the sudden just say 'fuck, let's just make it ok to carry weapons.' No, there was history behind that, a violent one none-the-less; one, for some reason, is beyond your comprehension.

This is the fucking irony in the world today. It's ok for the world to criticize us and tell us to learn about the world, etc... but it's not ok for the world to understand how the basis of our society and laws were derived. So don't come in here telling people 'it's common sense' to not have guns when you so lack any understanding of our history.

Re: Do you own a Gun?? US citizens

for all foreign critics -- i suggest making a honest, and unprejudiced striving to learn history (not just your textbook cheese, and quacky conspiracy speculations available at the bookstore) before making such vain assumptions. intuition strikes the inner keynotes if you have that truth within you, i heard once.

formulating a well thought out opinion based on gun-crime homicidal stats would be in-congruent when making an appeal to outlaw firearms. here is why:

any fool can find a gun in this digital/information age, simply if they just desired it.

the stats only dimly and apparently reflect how fucked the situation is here. the government(such saps) should be making tougher efforts to stem gun crime, and they should be pushing especially hard on the gun running organizations and cartels -- that should be top priority. they all operate with relative impunity like it where a breeze forsures. i can guarantee you as well that a significant number of the guns used in homicides come from the 'black market' in some way. ffs. i could leave the house right now and head over to the regionally known underground spots and pick up a concealed weapon (handgun) and be back within the hour, and i dont even live in the inner city or participate in any illegal activity now. even average and partially informed people, here, can gain access to such a grim spectacle as easy as it is to find your closest starbucks, no doubt about it. it's like the hypocritical war on drugs, it's futility.

my point is this, we are up to our heads in problems on all fronts here in america (and verily the whole world)... its like a burning house that does not let up, and keeps on truckin. like localizer said, prohibition will only make things worse in this 'compulsory' and fast pace society.

the paramount and essential freedom that the second amendment grants is there for those few and far between integral individuals who can make a positive difference, for the general good, and uphold a steady equilibrium to counter all the stupidity, corruption and wrong spewing forth from humanity. sure there will be epic fuck ups and accidents along the way -- but that happens in life. its not just about protection at all, but a strong conscious determination to have the discipline to bear such a hard liability, and stand (subjectively and objectively) strong against all the bullshit, even if you are not directly effected -- day in and day out. quality, good and constructive shit gets done that way.

Exactly, the government needs to crack down on the illegal arms trading, not on the citizens of the US who legitimately and legally hold firearms. But I guess none of these self-righteous world lovers ever followed the DC gun ban overturn. If you don't like guns, fine, but don't come barking up our tree telling us we shouldn't have them and that we're logically inept for having them.

honestly, I dont think anyone on here has said EVER that guns should be banned, or that EVERY one that owns one legally or illegally is logically inept.. dont get all fucking high and mighty asking to spout out statistics you havent done so either

she is right though, just because you are allowed or have the right to do something doesnt mean you HAVE to.. most everyone over the age of 21 has the legal right to drink, but not every one does or feels like they have to

my point in this thread only has been yes it is a right, and i am fine with that, I choose not town one and thats my choice.. it is just unfortunate that:

 1. any idiot can get a gun just as easy as someone that has the maturity to own one

 2. there is so much illegal weapons trafficking, the above will never change

banning is NEVER the answer, regulation is, but neither is realistically possible

Honestly, I don't think you read the thread then. You have posters lambasting our intelligence by saying not having guns is common sense, which basically states that we're logically corrupt, without any regard as to why we have an amendment for it. And I didn't bring up statistics there buddy, your homeboy DIDI did, so the burden of proof isn't on me. I'm sorry that a significant portion of the people can't grasp the simple concept as to why we are allowed to own firearms.
she is right though, just because you are allowed or have the right to do something doesnt mean you HAVE to.. most everyone over the age of 21 has the legal right to drink, but not every one does or feels like they have to
Well no shit; the premise wasn't that we don't have the choice, the premise was essentially why we are allowed to have them in the first place.
