Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
I just saw this, and realized that I've been to both of the live sets that have been included in the Structure releases.
Nice! I'd love for Digweed to broadcast/include in a compilation any of the gigs I've been to! A bit off-topic, but I don't suppose anybody can ID this tune of Diggers captured by one of hypoluxxa's videos: Utter tranquility. On-topic: Just two weeks to go! Looking forward to both mixes.

CD1 Release Notes:
John Digweed delves into the cinematic sound of Bedrock. Having carefully chosen a superb selection of tracks from the Bedrock catalogue and had them remixed and retouched into sublime ambient, after hours and downtempo versions, he’s blended them together to create a sublime, blissed out, electronica mix.
“I’m really happy with the outcome and hope I have created a perfect soundtrack for the long summer days ahead.” – John Digweed
Fittingly, the master of global communication, Tom Middleton, opens the proceedings with his Beatless Mix of one of the understated and atmospheric highlights from Guy J’s current album, Easy As Can Be. He’s injected it with a dose of pure chilled vibes as only he can and it’s the first of 18 amazing blissed out moments on CD1. There can be no denying that Guy J is one of the stand out electronic artists in the world today. A fact showcased further into the mix when his Lamur (AM Mix), with its beatless, soaring heavenly beauty, provides yet another moment to cherish.
As the journey takes shape through the blending of the melancholy violins and intriguing vocals of Stel’s I Burn Like, into the restrained energy of a swirling ambient Mistral courtesy of techno heavyweights Christian Smith and John Selway (the original version was released in the summer 2009 on Bedrock), through to the joyous handclaps of an outstanding hands-in-the-air reprise of former Steve Bug protégé Vincenzo’s current summer anthem Yarra Valley, you cannot fail to notice that John Digweed is thoroughly enjoying himself here.
As with his DJ sets on the world’s best dancefloors, week in week out, his tracks selection, timing, ability to build and develop atmospheres seemingly effortlessly and change pace to weave a dialogue through the music, are impeccable. As the unmistakeable chords of Quivver’s In Your Boat blend immaculately into Wiretappeur (a production partnership between Florian Kruse, Nils Nurnberg and Stel) and the mix spirals ecstatically upwards through Guy J into the stunning uplifting techno of Aurora Borealis (by one Ireland’s fastest rising stars, Ian O’Donovan) without a kick-drum in sight, the endless creative freedom of this blissed out concept is very much apparent.
The Wiretappeur reprise of Digweed & Muir single Bilder signals a plateau period in the mix, with the arrival of Matt Thomas (aka King Unique) and his “cosmic techno” sound, pressing all the right darker, melodic and scary buttons with his beatless versions of Vamoosh and massive single 2000000 Suns, before diving head-first into the bottomless chasm of King Roc & Dimitri Nakov’s Jardin Nights and emerging on a low-slung, head-nodding groove, courtesy of German creative genius Robert Babicz, with his stunning Pink Trees – On The Couch Journey Mix, which morphs seamlessly into the sublime vocal interlude of Involve by techno-meister Alan Fitzpatrick.
The down-tempo groove theme is further explored (maybe unexpectedly if you haven’t heard his recent Dragon Man album), by Belgian techno don Marco Bailey, with his Downbeat Mix of Beaming, leading into an ambient interlude by the masterful Nick Warren, which provides a superb launch pad for the downright-dirty Suicide Sports Club to bring the journey to a fitting conclusion as Freaky Boy From Outside segues into a final end sequence of blissed out ambience with Bedrock’s Beautiful Strange.

Wow... do you guys have a crystal ball or something??!! ;) It has just been announced that Kazell and Digweed are confirmed for the Mayan on August 3rd! I've had a great day and this is a huge bonus!
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
^^^ Good one mate!
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
first cd i think i am going to love. sounds like it will be one of those special mix's that will last forefever (ie hc parralel day)
live mix is pretty dissapointing. from the quick minimix it felt kinda boring, warm up. i guess will never get a signature live set released that captures his vortex moments. i thought last years vagabond was bettter then this set.
hopefully the trax are decent.

Nah, I was speaking to Diggers at Leeds : one of my friends was moving back to LA - John confirmed he was there early August ;)
Gutted now, as I really wanted to go to Mayan next time he played ... it'll have to be Space instead.

I totally agree on every point. He hit the nail on the head when he says you have to enjoy what you do. I've always believed that to be true for any job/career, and his passion for this is what makes him great.

Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
Great interview, such a down to earth and straight talking guy. So true too, letting the work and passion speak. :Respect:
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
Cracking interview, and he's so correct with the 'good music and bad, you either like it or you don't' analogy.
I wonder if it annoys him when he sees 'new' dj's coming out of nowhere and becoming so popular?
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
Wouldn't seem like it from what he says, he seems to want to encourage new Djs :D
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
I'd like to hear what he thinks of Deadmau5.
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
^^^Why would you care
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
Greg's post made me think of that.
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
digweed loves deadmau5, he proves his point of "there's good music, and there's bad music"...deadmau5 and his pokemon pack showed us how digweed and the other masters are so special, true and not just dj's...i hope we never become mainstream, we have more fun this way ;)
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
The first cd reminds me to Layered sound 2.
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
Great interview.
I'd hazard a guess that this weekend's Transitions is majority of CD 3 mixed together. I'll rip and upload it on Friday before leaving for my gigs this weekend so I can post the links from wherever with an internet early on Sunday.

THANKS for posting...
wow very impressed with the Trax on CD3. Overall think this is going to be a great release. only thing i didnt enjoy too much from the previews was the live mix from cd 2.
2 out of 3 is good enough for me. cant wait for this to arrive.
Re: Digweed Structures Part Two - Album
damn I guess you get punished if you order the CD package instead of downloading it digitally. I am kind of pissed now that i ordered the cd.
At the end of the minimix for cd 3 John says if you order digitally you get all the mixed cd's plus all 44 tracks unmixed from all 3 cd's
if you order the cd you only get the 10 trax from cd3. what a bunch of crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seems a bit unfair if you bought the cd you get shorted 34 unmixed trax.

Interview : ElectronicNightLife.com

John Digweed has been one of the most prolific DJ’s and producers in the electronic music scene since his start back in the early 1990’s. John established Bedrock Records in 1999 releasing his first track “Heaven Scent” under his Bedrock alias along with cohort Nick Muir which is an undeniable classic and it still a hell of a track even by today’s standards. More recently John has compiled and mixed a triple disc compilation entitled “Structures Two” which is due to be released on June 20[SUP]th[/SUP], 2011. Without further adieu, let the Q & A session commence…. What's going on at Bedrock Records these days?
We have had a great 2011 so far Albums from Marco bailey and Guy J plus host of great single releases we are just about to release Structures two a triple CD compiled and mixed by me. I am really happy with how the label is going so far this year.
Many listeners aren't aware of what's involved when releasing a compilation. Can you share the general processes with our readers?
I started work on this last September. Getting tracks sent in asking artists to remix tracks and getting downtempo versions together. It takes a while to get all the content together but once I have everything I find it quite easy to mix and compile the tracks.
In terms of licensing the tracks for the compilation, how long does that part usually take?
Well apart from the Live mix all of the other on the comp tracks are already signed to my label so it takes not much time at all.
How does each of the 3 discs of the "Structures Two" compilation relate to each other?
They are all different CD1 is Blissed out and Downtempo versions of Bedrock tracks and remixes. CD 2 features a live mix from Avalon in Los Angeles giving people a snapshot of me in the mix at one of my gigs. CD 3 is me with my A& R head on compiling 10 unreleased and exclusive tracks I have left these unmixed for DJ`s that want to play these out.
Are you working on any original productions or collaborations at the moment?
Just released a new single '30 Northeast' with Nick Muir, which has a great remix from Abe Duque and both mixes have been getting great feedback so far. We have a few more in the pipeline that should be ready later on this year.
What are some of the upcoming stops on your upcoming North American tour?
NYC, Montreal, Toronto, LA, Denver, Florida, Atlanta and Kansas just to name a few.
You recently made your debut at New York's District 36 Night club on May 6th. How was that experience for you, and what are your opinions about the venue?
I had a great time! It was 10 years to the date that Twilo had closed so it was quite special for me to be in NYC at this time, as I love New York and have played there so many times. District 36 has an amazing sound system, which is great to see clubs investing in the most important aspect of a club; the sound. I really enjoyed playing, it was packed and the people seemed to be having a good time.
Do you have any upcoming gigs planned along with Sasha?
Nothing at the moment, as I am touring the Structures Two album.
Are you excited to perform at Electric Zoo again this year?
Can’t wait, I loved last year. This year I am on the main stage so super excited to play on that stage this year.
Are you working on any other projects that you would like to tell us about? I am working a on a super cool project that I can’t go into to much detail yet about more will be revealed in a few months time. :HolyFuck:
Do you have any additional comments for our readers?
Thanks as always for the support over the years I am very lucky to have such amazing fans out there.
