Re: [ms] DJ Database
Great work.
Re: [ms] DJ Database
thanks :)
I also just realized it might not work on the podcast bot, so that's something else I'll need to check
Re: [ms] DJ Database
ok, 4 hours after I started and [ms] will now automatically hyperlink all DJs in any future posts. This should be awesome for tracklists/etc in P&R! :)
Here's an example:
Re: [ms] DJ Database
Great work Adam!! :)
Re: [ms] DJ Database
Great feature!
Re: [ms] DJ Database
I just put together a new Artists page :)
You can check it out by clicking the DJ Database tab or by clicking here: http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?item=artists
Re: [ms] DJ Database
It's very well done and much more user-friendly. <i'd just add a "View all" at the bottom too.
Re: [ms] DJ Database
Thanks! ...and done :)
Re: [ms] DJ Database
Amazing work, how close is it now to the project you had in mind?
Re: [ms] DJ Database
it's getting there day by day :D
Part of my original hopes included crawling the Facebook/MySpace/SoundCloud/Twitter URLs for our artists to pull in dynamic content from there. For example, I'd like to index events from FB/MySpace, and have members be able to pick a city and date to see all artists that have announced that they'll be playing there that day. Or index Twitter/Facebook posts and have the last 5/10 displayed directly on their artist profiles or in our homepage for your subscribed artists, etc. This might be a pretty big undertaking because all the data may not be in a standard format, but it's definitely not impossible. I still want to make this place more polished before I start taking on another huge project :)

Sounds pretty damn good mate. Hats off and thanks for the work. 8)
Re: [ms] DJ Database
Wow, just found this thread. Thanks to all involved in bringing this togetha (though I've already thanked the two most worthy parties elsewhere ;)). If I can make a recommendation, I see some artist pages that could use an updated URL or genre addition...can approved contributors (like those who have submitted valid artists/DJs) be allowed to update any ole' entry, as opposed to only the ones they've added?
Re: [ms] DJ Database
I've been planning on this for a while... where anybody with > ~500 posts or so can update all artists. I just need to make it happen :D
I'll try to work on it this week!
Re: [ms] DJ Database

this is pretty cool but I don't think I'm going to stick with it
Re: [ms] DJ Database
^^^^ wow
took a fair time for the top 250 to load
the full wack would be longtime!
Re: [ms] DJ Database
I can cache it so it's quicker. I may keep it if I can settle up on the design
Re: [ms] DJ Database
This is certainly a good direction with the thumbnails instead of names only.
Re: [ms] DJ Database
Looks really nice imo. Did you tweak it a bit since yesterday? The text looks a little more legible, but still not so great on the lighter images. Why not just have text with a nice css shadow over images? (the answer is because it doesn't work in IE ;))
Re: [ms] DJ Database
I have tweaked it a few times but I'm still not sure what I want to do about it. It just doesn't feel right...
I also just adjusted the recommended artists query a bit. This recommendation query just gets better and better each time I touch it :o:
I also added code to recommend more artists to you if you subscribe to an artist. I wanted to enable those who go on a subscribing frenzy to find another artist they like immediately after subscribing to someone they like.
Re: [ms] DJ Database
I preferred it with names only Adam i think. Seems less clear and less defined now imo.
It just recommended Daft Punk to me. They're fucking French! Back to the drawing board mr monkey
Re: [ms] DJ Database
It recommends based on what other like-minded members are subscribing to. You must like a bunch of other crap for it to recommend more crap to you

Re: [ms] DJ Database
So far, i'm 0/3 in artists i've searched for...creating pages now. omg! let's get this sorted out with some real artists.
Re: [ms] DJ Database

Re: [ms] DJ Database
I just added new functionality that automatically tags the last 2 years worth of threads for an artist when a new artist is created.
