Danny was 121 last year next to Dave Seaman

The discussions are the same each year and why some of you still bother is beyond me. Must be a similar gene than the one responsible for making people check out Paris Hilton "news".
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
I was thinking that myself. Every year I vote and every year I complain!

Who do you think is more talking about popularity contests on MySpam, Titter, Facecrack and other communities and goes voting and convinces their mates to vote too? Just saying. And if somebody asks, I didn't say it.

That's fricken hilarious TomTom! Even though I follow to the second choice, I sure hope I don't look like that! I'd love to know how some of the DJ's themselves feel about the useless results.
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
^^^Hopefully the same way we do
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
I don't really care. Have never voted, and never will.
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
The poll is the same trance guys each year so no need to complain again. Pretty much what I expected. Interesting to me is that trance is a genre that's been on the decline for the entire decade. I'm more interested in the Residentadvisor poll.
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
I sort of do care actually! I would love to see my favourite Dj given the recognition he deserves. :D Aside from the fact that I just never know when to give up
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
What do you think matters more to him di, recognition from some magazine poll, or recognition from the people that love his music? :)
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
i think bookings for gigs is high up on a priority list

Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
^People always say that getting on the top 100 list is important for getting gigs, but does any promoter seriously say to themselves 'hmm who should I book to play next month... time to check out the top 100 djs list!'? I could imagine that happening if they were putting on a commercial night or something, but I'd think that any prog/techno promoter would already be familiar with any djs on the list that would suit their kind of night.
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
It seems to work for Trance Djs. Btw I have actually seen and enjoyed Ferry Corsten !
What do you think matters more to him di, recognition from some magazine poll, or recognition from the people that love his music? :)
Would probably like both :D And the magazine poll is a very tangible way to show support. Ultimately this one is absolute crap though !! And in fact, there are too many variables for any to be really accurate on any level.
But wouldn't you feel good if your Dj was listed as No. 1,?? and wouldn't you want to boast about it just a little ??. Sigh , just a little dream :)
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009

It would be nice, but unfortunately when you poll a large group of people, the most generic, widely appealing choice is likely to come out on top. Poll for the best dj, and it will be armin or tiesto instead of hernan. Poll for the best musician, and it will be britney spears rather than john coltrane. Poll for the best book and it will be the davinci code rather than the old man and the sea. It's quite sad to think about.
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
Yeah the lowest common denominator :(
Ahh, We can but dream  And the guys we love are still actually the best !! :D
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
I don't think Dave Seaman has played The Gallery since he fell out of the top 100. Then again they book Jimmy Van M who hasn't been in the top 150 since 2001

^^ I've seen and enjoyed Ferry Corsten, he and Marcus Schultz are Ok !!
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
why is there so much negativity about trance?
the lowest common dominator is equally applicable to minimal and some of the music that's been in the boxes of S&D over the last few years!
I'm sorry but the likes of Tiesto/Ferry/Armin/PVD totally deserve to be where they are! They put bums on seats at the end of the day!
I didn't see many people complaining when Blue Fear was included on Northern Exposure 2?
I haven't stopped playing Markus Schulz's Toronto CD1 which has some older progressive sounding tracks at the beginning and his Cold Harbour label has been consistently good since it's inception!
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
I did like Corsten's dance dept 2001 mix, but it's 2009  didn't realize he had any sort of following as of late...clearly he must, but who are these people?

Promoters and DJs take it extremely seriously. DJs who are high up the list use it as a bargaining tool to get themselves more money, and promoters use it as way of paying well known DJs who have slipped down the rankings less money. Why else would they spend lots of money on campaigning to get people to vote for them?
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
my personal opinion is that this poll is a good showing of how unpopular everyones "minimal" sounding music thats gettin played is becoming, lets face it, the scene is not so young anymore and peopl like myself ae nt botherin to vote due to the poor showing of this years sets in general and that from just about everyone i,ve heard this year....i can honestly say that not one set has stood out for methis year..poor show all round :what
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
I don't agree with the people who think that the reason these DJ's are getting voted for is because of marketing companies. It doesnt matter how much you market a product if people don't like it its going to fail. They are also assuming that people can't formulate rational thought as to whether they actually like something or not. Instead they like to believe this people are swayed by some marketing mumbo jumbo, they saw a couple of YouTube videos and read a few blogs or magazine reviews. If Digweed employed a marketing company do you really think he would score much higher in the poll next year. I would be interested to know what these companys would do to improve his profile and his score. Not much I think.
If any DJ doesn't want to be involved in the poll the solution is simple, no promotional mixes, no links on my-space, facebook or their websites, no plugs on radio shows and no blogs like Mr C's slating the poll. Interestingly most of the DJ's people like on this forum do some of them things.
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
It would be interesting to see demographics of the voters, i think that now with the internet voting, the average age of the voters dropped significantly and younger people usually go for trance first. The older (well, between 25-35) audience, which makes the majority of club visitors for top house events don't vote that much (coz they don't care).
I heard once an interesting comparison for NL: If a promoter of the club books a house dj, he gets 3 times as big revenues on the bar as when it's a trance dj. That's maybe why i doubt this poll does anyhow affect the booking fees of the top house djs even if they are at the bottom of the list (danny howells, roger sanchez, nick warren, etc..).

They used to say at Gatecrasher they sold 10 times as much Champagne when Sasha played than the sold in a normal month. I have to admit I rarely see anyone quaffing champagne in a club

If that's true, that's pretty fascinating. So by the same logic, "all ages clubs" are probably booking trance dj's for kids who are taking drugs or sober, where as house dj's are booked at clubs that are either 18+ or 21+, here in the states at least. Which brings me back to the demorgraphics question, what percentage of the votes came from the US, that alone would be interesting to know.

What have you been listening to ?? I've heard some fabulous stuff this year!! Our favourite Djs aren't getting older they are maturing like good wine
Interesting stuff on demographics etc. Btw marketing would be a part of all the Djs managements role .
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
And S&D aren't business men?
All Dj's are business men! They all expect five star treatment!!lol
Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
I think the pole is probably a fair reflection!!!
Involver 2 has helped Sasha feature a bit higher plus some high profile remixes!
John has not done enough musically to hold on to his status!
I think the pole is more than just about who is the best in the clubs
It's a reflection of the all round package! People that vote are not necessarily seeing the Dj's in clubs I don't believe!

Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009
The list is about what I expected to be honest. The trance and cheesy house DJ's are more mainstream, so their names are more recognized and thought of when people sit down to vote.
Oh and andyrUK, believe me when I say its not worth trying to defend trance on here....I have failed many of times, just ask anyone lol.
