Re: DJs you dont get

Lee Burridge and Steve Lawler .. probably could add a few more but those 2 are off the top of my head ... heard their albums/sets and seen them live and still nothing

Re: DJs you dont get

hold up.

the point of this thread is to talk shit about everyone's favorite DJs.

don't get butthurt!

i'd like to add nic fanciullililiului to my list - the only thing he's done that was reallly good was a WMC promo - and zabiela did it with him

+1

Having trouble coming up with DJs I truly don't get, gonna have to think about this one a little while longer. I can however tell you a few that I hate: Justice, Deadmau5, and GirlTalk

I always thought the same thing; Guy J sucks donkeyballs, like big time, and thus I've lost any appreciation I once had for Bedrock. I'm losing faith in Digweed as well.

Others: Fanciulli (whom I used to enjoy listening to back in the day) Paolo Mojo (I assume boring is his middle name) Lawler (where are the good old days of tribal house) Prydz (too formulaic and anticipatory -- if WoW could put his musical ability in their skill set, it , and consequently easily learnable) DeadMau5e (someone tar and feather this kid already) Ned Sheppard (your music sounds as fluffy as Downey fabric softner) SOS (only good when they are seperate -- together their music sounds like a starburst fruit pack with only the yellow flavor)

there are so many more i can't think of right now

some other close mentions: Hernan (he can play some really queer sound prog sometimes) Fortier (there is a glimpse of hope for you)

Right now, there are very few djs/producers that are capturing my attention, and they include, timewriter, funk d'void, TLB Jr., Luke Fair, Chus & Ceballos, and a few more i can't think of.
when guy g stops sending him exclusives and tells bedrock to fuck off?
 And when Guy j stops producing fabulous music !!!!

There are heaps I don't get , but that just means they don't do music I like , it certainly doesn't make them bad Djs  A lot I would even recognise as very good , just don't fit my personal taste . With one exception, the ones that do noises !!!. I hate it !!! Haziels decription [ nice editing btw ] so fitted a Dj I know here. Annoyingly he can do stuff I love, but chooses the noises instead.

Re: DJs you dont get

Ok here we go again

Imo a good dj has to take a left turn every once in a while , sticking to the same producer year after year, is either making you play it safe or not progressing your sound at all.
 And when Guy j stops producing fabulous music !!!!
That may be what many people think but that is not the opinion of a lot of people who are IMO spinning much better music than him.

btw great thread :Bingo:

Wow it's amazing sometimes how different we can all be about the same music. To me Guy J is a breath of fresh air. All I hear in this thread is about how alot of people hate minimal and stale house, but Guy J is producing some of the best music right now. Digweed said it best, Guy is producing good melodic music that doesn't sound like trance. To me it's the beginning of something new. The new something we've all been complaining about not hearing. I truly hope he stays on track.

Now, I agree with Gaz, Steve Porter has gone stale since 2004. I used to be a huge fan up until he released Homegrown. I still can't understand how the same guy who made Nordica could produce and dj the shit he does today. The only thing I've found interesting of his since 04 is his Pepperoni and Bullets promo. And even still most of that set was rubbish.

He's also played heaps of repeat artistes over the years, like Charlie May, WOW, Underworld, Depeche Mode, RITM, YAP, etc. And he did a whole hour on Kiss dedicated to Deep Space Organisms. Guy J is not an exception.

I think its a great thing the polarization ... to love it or hate it , it makes people talk about music , it makes people sort of even ask themselves why? why do I like this and why do I not like this .

any DJ who talks about playing dark, evil, darkness, deepness, tribal or any combination of...STFU! it's not 2002

yep he sure did and that Is something I don't get ;) anyhow he did go wild on Guy J

Re: DJs you dont get

Beause he likes their sounds? If you drink wine, you would have old favourites you keep coming back to, while trying out new ones won't you?

#1241026Post 62 of 273

Re: DJs you dont get

You used an analogy that doesn't apply here Feather.

We clearly differ on what Edm is, if you want to evolve your sound reinvent yourself ( which is what EDM is all about to me ) , you should be looking at different directions , it really scares the shit out of me to even think that digweed will continue to play the same producers he is currently using now to 5 years in the future.

As a dj insisting on the same producers and style of music means that either you just want to keep it nice and safe or you just have ran out of ideas.

Every single artist in History has had their time no matter how good they were, do you think all those producers are going to sound good forever ?

Which is one of the reasons I stopped listening to him since 2008 , it disappointed me to see in his charts , Wow and Guy j and Charlie may over and over again.

I thought Guy J would be fresh air as well. I mean, I liked agent blue, but I don't like his other tracks. I think he's a solid producer in that he always hits you up with a crisp, clear sound, but I don't at all dig his style.

What kinda music do you listen to?
Anything that can keep my attention and not annoy me ;). I mean, Gui Boratto's remix of Take My Breath Away I think is awesome and probably one of my favorite tracks at the moment. I'm not so worried about dark as I am about having a good solid groove with great elements, and I just don't hear that with Guy J.

Not entirely true ... you're of the other extreme. Are you pushing the sound for the sake of pushing it? DJs like Digweed push the sound while maintaining their taste in music. Have you caught him live?

Re: DJs you dont get

There is quite a list of dj's that I don't get.. but I"ll keep it short - 16Bit Lolitas Add2basket Luke Fair Desyn Masiello Steve Porter M.A.N.D.Y James Holden (I used to love his stuff) Danny T (and I love Tribal)

#1241130Post 72 of 273

Re: DJs you dont get

I don't listen to 16bit lolitas much but recently heard them on Frisky Podcast and that caught me by surprise, check it out.

Just realised maybe I wasn't suppose to link Frisky stuff, I can't keep up with the bullshit.

Anyway it's the Frisky podcast, I found the link with Google, easy enough ;)

Re: DJs you dont get

Lots mentioned here that I either don't get or don't like.

But the thing I don't get is the Djs that feel they have to play the newest and latest at all cost. And preferably something that no one else has ever played. I love hearing new music but sometimes that classic is the perfect one for the particular spot in a set. EDM stands for Electronic Dance Music, that simple. !! Most of the Djs I really love know how to incorporate old and new to get the absolute best EDM :D

Btw I used to love James Holden well :(

Totally agree with this statement..When he plays he's usually hit or miss.He Just played here in Boston.I felt like he was trying to much.I mean cmon he sampled that "Voices" Track 4 times in a 2hr set.

Ofcourse I'm not pushing the sound mate, Djing is my hobbie and I play what I like . He hasn't push the sound since 2006 in my opinion. Ive seen him tons of times , this is a fan that got disappointed and tuned out about a year ago that is writing . I started on diggers on 2002.
