Re: DJs you dont get

I wasn't referring to you push the sound per se, but are you suggesting DJs should push the sound for the sake of pushing it?

Do you think Digweed's been playing the same sound and artistes since 2002?

For someone who's been listening to Digweed since 2002, you make some pretty superficial and farcical comments on his sound and the musical directions he's taken.

Re: DJs you dont get

Read well what i said, I mentioned take a left turn .

Why mention 2002 he was fine then?

Dude I'm not goign to make a Thesis on this. You're free to find my opinion as deep or superficial as you like.;)

I find it funny how his "loyal" fans get butthurt when once in a million he does try something different, so the guy just rather play it safe in order to keep his fans in place.

Which is fine , but he sure lost one here . :|

Re: DJs you dont get

Err I mentioned 'since 2002' because you've been listening to him for 7 years, and you seem to be saying he's not pushing the sound and is playing the same old artistes?

So I'm wondering what you've been hearing for 7 years, or did you mean he was doing fine from 2002-2008 which is when you stopped listening because he's been playing Guy J since 2008? But 2006 was your example of when he first dropped Guy J.

You're making a big call here saying Digweed has been playing the same artistes and from what I understand, hasn't been innovating; and I'd like to understand besides him playing a lot of Guy J, if there are other reasons for the sentiment.

Those repeat artistes I mentioned, he played them over the period of his career, not within a 1 or 2yr period.

I dislike maximal, boring plodding prog, 8th notes, unicorns, huge buildups, and fucking lasers.

Remember to sample that for the next dark prog track with a male wailing during the breakdown ;)

DJ Tiesto

He used to play and make very nice stuff (Obsession, Suburban Train etc.), but when the big crowd reached him after Flight 643 he lost it and went for the money :(.
Paul van Dyk
This bloke cant mix, cant program, bizarrely has the ability to make brilliant records sound crap. If you listen to the 1999-06-18 - Nikita, San Francisco set of his. He plays some records Sasha was playing at the time. They sounded mediocre when PVD played them and amazing when Sasha played them.

I think Dave Haslem said it all in his book Adventures On The Wheels Of Steel (The Rise Of The Superstar Djs). Dave did an interview with Paul and went on to one of his gigs afterwards. His records where played in no particular order, he'd play the wrong side if the records accidentally, and didn't really have a clue.

Luke Fair Steve Porter Martin Garcia

I think I have downloaded every live set from these three and have tossed them out because I just cannot get into them. Tons and tons of people get them but I just don't.... I know if I saw them live it would be different but in-house, volume cranked up... nothing happens.

You could compile a list like that for most of the popular DJ's

Them 6 hour sets at Gatecrasher where shite. His sets didn't build or flow at all. He would play some of the same records 2 or 3 times in a night. It seemed to me that as long as he was banging it out hard everyone was happy.

Yeah, The reason I gove Steve Porter props is becasue of his set he spun in Miami at the State back in 2006 I think it was. That dude proved to me that he is on his own plane when it comes to DJ'ng. The whole place was blown away!!! I have never heard a set like that since. I agree that most of the sets that have come out since were just average, but that night was unforgettable. Hell even Digweed was there that night, and featured him on his Transitions show 2 weeks or so later. Insane set!

Re: DJs you dont get

For me it'd be:

James Holden-I loved him in the past, but I don't get his recent productions. It's just too "out" there for me maybe? Not sure. o.O Joris Voorn-I still don't get the hype. Deadmau5-No comment.

That's all that comes to mind at the moment!

Re: DJs you dont get

LOL ... missed this thread while I was in ibiza - at least Sasha hasn't had the usual bashing people dish out.

What I can't understand that if people say they haven't liked what Diggers has played for the last 7 x years, then why bother to still listen to him and criticise ?

2002 was Bedrock's 4th Birthday ... it's the 11th this year - so get over it !

I would say he's been diverse over the years and always gone for new music - can't see why staying loyal to Charlie May is a bad thing ... his productions are still bloody good.

For my part Lee Burridge has bored me senseless every time I've seen him. Also Zabiela was a lot easier to listen to live when he was a warm up DJ and playing obscure b sides - but he is still a talent. I'm not a fan of Fanciulli at all either.

I've really never been able to get into the minimal sound or what passes for the fabric sound ... plus anything approaching electro makes my stomach churn.

Re: DJs you dont get

James Holden Absolutely do not get, I could never get into his Balance either... I could go on and on...

but on the other hand sky was pink and outhouse mixes are absolutely epic

Re: DJs you dont get

Steve Porter is someone that you have to see live to understand, he will blow you away live! When you listen to his live sets you have to have seen him enough to understand what he is doing live. It is a nonstop booty-shaking mix of music and he mixes all genres seamlessly.

djs who only spin em/edm, and never experiment. seriously, shit is such a pigeon-hole, ffs.

edit: lol. was arguing with a friend last night about this shit last night, somehow sum of it got vented here :)

Re: DJs you dont get

SOS - seriously havnt heard a live mix that has been any good. mostly hit and miss.

DJ Hell - what a bunch of garbage

Tiesty, PVD, ect ect - all trash

Zabilia - most of what i have heard is nothing i really can get into

Sander Kleineberg - this guy has to be one of the worst djs around...has a horrible taste in music

#1247678Post 108 of 273

Re: DJs you dont get

I would have said the same about SOS. But last year they were one of my best nights and I'm really looking forward to seeing them on 7th Aug. :D

I understand why other people love Zabiela but I don't.

Easy because this is a critique thread not like your other 10,000 Sasha or digweed praising threads that you and everyone makes in here. Didn't you just criticized Lee a few posts ago?

Aside from the fact that digweeds music taste has remained the same and mine have changed I can still appreciate the fact that technically he is a good dj . So i listen to him evey other 3 months , But I am pretty much over his music, if I ever get back into it i will let you know ;)

Sasha surprised me on May I saw his beatport chart and certainly I would have never expected him to chart a tracks from, No Regular Play and Delago/Garcia tracks that interest me. Same with the Andre Lodemann one.

Re: DJs you dont get

ive never been into sasha or digweed, just never really enjoyed their music taste. also catanneo and pappa, i mean, yes i know tracks can last up to 10 minutes, but there is no real reason to play it entirely.

again, this is my own personal opinion, some of these guys could be dj gods, but for me, theyre just boring as fuck.

Re: DJs you dont get

disagree that diggers music taste has unchanged - hes way more minimal and obscure nowadays... i used to hear nothing but banging, driving, brewing dark hard prog, but nowadays, its like hearing diggers and james holden together lol - although, i still like him, hes nowhere near what he used to be for me...

the thing that gets me, is when they play together... s&d together are the fucking business. They are so innovative, so technically brilliant, so cutting edge... i am in awe of those two

Re: DJs you dont get

Nah, I certainly appreciate that Digweed is not for everyone and others have said so as much in this thread.

But your sueprficial comments on Digweed's musical direction and innovation (or the lack of), on a board where so many people listen to him and have followed his career for so long; your inability to substantiate a point of view beyond holding dearly to the foot in your mouth.

That, makes me laugh. Here's more.

You are an idiot if you expect eveyone in this board to like digweed , It doesn't matter how well phrased you want to put it , you cannot escape the fact that there is a dj that continues to use the same formula throught the years.
