Re: Your classic Essential Mix?
I love seeing the old tracklists, and remembering the times searching for the elusive "white label" by any means neccessary and the feeling of accomplishment when i came home and saw the package leaning up against the door
+1

Those were the days. The Yo Shop, Groovetech, and so many others that are no more. I remember the first time I walked into Plastic Fantastic in 2001 and the clerk asked what I was into. Needless to say I bought almost everything he gave me. I bumped into Dave Seaman there too. :D

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

man, groovetech was awesome. they had the best sound samples of the day. i must have spent 5 grand with them alone...

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?
man...who ever posted that '95 digweed set is awesome. I've been listening to it all weekend. It destroys* all others, and i would put it in my top 3 e-mixes of all time.

i don't mean it like kills other e-mixes or has harsh sentiments towards others, it's just a really embelished way of saying 'this is dope*

**dope means good
We've become so PC here. Don't want to offend our bretheren that like the new stuff. It shows mutual respect, well except for my: Location. Nothing pc about that.

I saved my last ever cardboard packing container from them. I think Chloe might have worked there.

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

groovetech was great. excellent selections. My favourite part was the live video feed they had in thier dj rooms in london and (seattle?). Anyways, I remember setting my schedule around that so i could watch zabiela spin. I think this was around the time that HOOJ went under.

---btw...anyone know where to find those videos?

there was another sander mix that had dusk till dawn as the 2nd track. It was from 02 I think. One of my fav sets of all time. The TL on that Moshic mix brings back nostalgic memories.

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

ahh i remember tuning into groovetech back in the day and watching those live streams. i think you could even IM the dj spinning at the time and chat if i remember right. i also remember placing my first big vinyl order from planetxusa, looks like they just went under too :( juno.co.uk always had great samples to browse and it seems they are still doing fine and the website is even better now and going strong. never ordered from them though because the s+h and exchange rate makes it too damn expensive for me.

Wow, that's his first EM. Opening is so lush and beautiful.:shock: Ok let's face it, they REALLY don't make music like this anymore. Where's YAP now?!

ahh damn i didnt hear about that otherwise i would have taken advantage. are they going to be able to compete in the all digital market? beatport seems to have that sewn up, plus with a nice and usable interface too boot.

#992102Post 108 of 184

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

^ | my guess is no...djdownload and beatport are doing well, its gonna be tough for them to gain too much market share.
3beat didn't survive their digital attempt. still waiting for juno to do something decent in that arena.

#992108Post 109 of 184

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

It's definitely about the sentimentality for me. My favorite EM's tend to be from the period 1998-2001 when I first got into the scene (and GU was at it's strongest incidentally). Oakenfold's world tour was literally 'essential' listening.

They definitely don't make tunes like they used to. I listened to Gu 7 New York just last night and to say that it's a classic CD is an understatement. When the beat on Taste Experience-Summersault kicks in, man.....................

I said it a few weeks ago and I'll say it again - the EM used to be reserved for people who were well known and/or had worked their way up. Now they dish it out to anybody e.g. Benga (whoever he is) on the other week.....

#992250Post 110 of 184

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

^^^yeah exactly it was like, this dj has made it and deserved their essential mix, they used to put a lot of effort into it as well cos it was such a good promotion, amount of tunes i bought from essential mixes through the years....... but today it seems that anyone gets on, even just some new producer of the day, plus there are loads of radio shows available for download nowadays, its got a lot more to compete with

anyways! my favourites are Sanders 2001 and 2003 (all time classics, love the intros) Adam Beyer 2006 (so many tunes about 6 months before anyone else played them) Delta heavy 2002 (huuuuuuuuuuge lol) Gabriel & Dresden 2003 (last good thing they did imo) also Parks & Wilson 2000 and the Goa mix 8)

i also think Hernans one from this year could be a future classic....

#992370Post 111 of 184

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

Taste Experience-Summersault is THE track that should have made Sasha's GU ibiza .. for some daft reason I always think it's on there because it's vibe screams, summer/white isle/terrace.

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

Listening to Digweed's 16-05-99 e-mix again ... I think this and his 95 e-mix ... just something about the groove on them. Or I'm not so into the pumpy stuff anymore.

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

Oakenfold - Space, Ibiza 1999 is my classic... i always go back to this on a semi-monthly basis... just a classic emix.

other than that, Sander K's 2001 emix is very close second.

+1......after losing this set on one of my HDs, I was re-introduced to this jewel thanks to Gatz. Minute 51 - 62 on this mix are beyond belief.... I'd give my right arm for that track that comes in around the minute 57 mark and goes on through to the minute 62 mark..... WOWZA
