Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

there was a set from sassha and diggers done here in NY before delta heavy on KTU. i have never seen it available online anywhere. it was fucking sick. tunes in it were the stephan K remix of crystal method and scott weiland, they had the hydrogen rockers remix of smoked peice, it was the first time i heard walking on fire, and so much more. the MV tunes when MV was pumping disgusting tribal.

if anyone has any clue as to this set, it would be monetarily benificial for them to let me know.

#1044796Post 125 of 184

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

haa, I was way off.. that 2nd track on Sashas EM from I think 2000 is Northface - Entity (Yekuana remix) (Pied Piper).
I love seeing the old tracklists, and remembering the times searching for the elusive "white label" by any means neccessary and the feeling of accomplishment when i came home and saw the package leaning up against the door
aahh shit man, that was me every week!! All I did at work during 97-00 was search for white labels all over the internetz!! I got paid and took 2hour lunches to purchase vinyl and hook up the office with AudioGalaxy. Man those were the years!

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

btw, after a while, those white label promo's really became popular!. There was one online place that had nothing but white labels.

I know they posted a bunch of stuff here too!! or maybe it was at GU. Was it Street Wise or Street Sound? They were really cool.

Also became popular witht the "credit" points at HOOJ when they were selling promos.

I have a decent section of white label prog on my shelf. Dont really play them much... and who can forget all those white labels Oakenfold would drop during his world tour.

yes, I remember that website! cant remember the url, but I remember the "credit system"

remember going to clubs at that time too and trying to trainspot, getting a peak at the decks and being pissed of jealous when it was a white label, then seeing the wry smile of whomever was spinning, lol

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

Release Records was the shop that became real famous cause of all the white label promos they had. Were they also based in Seattle? or over ont he east coast?.. they were cool people.

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

haha yeah, .. crazy how times have changed.

From hard to find recordings of dj sests

To what they were playing / tracklistings.org???? lol

To findnig those white label, acetates

to bidding $1,00000 for them on ebay

to an abundance of online record shops

to exclusive promos/white labels

to downloading hard to find tracks on napster/audiogalaxy p2p

to mp3 files and new tech equipment

to mp3 download sites over the record shops!

and through all of this, music kept evolving and changing... craaaazzzyyyyyyyy!

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

The now defunct TuneInn records had Bedrock test pressings... That is the only way I got ahold of some gems. Plastic Fantastic, Yo shop, and many others had white labels. You had to get in there immediately or you were S.O.L!

#1045166Post 135 of 184

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

yup, I remember all those! My other favorites were Replay Records (always had hard to find vinyl at a very cheap price; I was amazed), Massive Rec (this is were I found that Desyfer - 831 track from Oakey '99) and Hard to Find Rec; had good stuff but wayy overpriced.

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

htfr.com is still around, and yes i agree over priced

its probably been mentioned but i think groovetech.com will always be one if not THE most missed online stores

yeah, it was the first of its kind. they had the best layed out format. Had pics of all the vinly, side a, b, c samples etc, I mean it was very well made for one of the first really legit online record shops. Really clean!

They massive e-mails were really cool too, especially when they started to go on "sale"...

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

Ok listening to the 02 delta heavy e-mix ... I think it's really an issue of sentimentality ... this is such a huge big-sound set but it's amazing, I can so imagine the scene and the sound in a Melbourne warehouse.

Sasha's mix of Janeiro Positiva into Take Me Down ... I (IMO of course) haven't heard him do a melodic mix like that in his later sets. He still likes to rev it up and go for the crazy peaks, but those two tracks' melodies work so well together.

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

this is just a lovely thread, that I went home and pulled out all my old vinyl and made a mix.

Im going to put it up in the members p & r section. Its slopply put together ahahha, but I had fun. It was very difficult as I had no idea where anything really was. I did my best.

I say we all do the same. Pull out your "sentimentality" tracks and put em' up!!

I will call it "They dont makem' like they used to" Dont be wankers, I wanna here you "older" members put something up (if you have all the dj stuff of course).

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

That's actually something I was thinking of doing soon, hooking up my 1200's and just grabbing a stack of vinyl and going thru it.. I will definitely do it now you brought it up.

When I moved and packed and unpacked all my records I was realising all the tremendous music I have that never sees the light of day any more

I want to start a monthly night around here called something like "No CD's Allowed".. all vinyl, not serato vinyl lol.. but all vinyl.. classics

#1045311Post 147 of 184

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

ha, right on man. Been a while since I made a whole set purely off of vinyl only. Especial old proggy stuff. It was real fun.

Anyway, I'll put it up soon. You can do Pt2!!:RockOn:

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

King Unique 15.7.2001

I remember it was the first time i herd KU. The essential mix 2001 had been listed as Deep Dish. Me and my mate had been excited all week so we stayed in to listen to it. 2am Pete tong came on "this is king unique don't miss this" me and my mate couldn't believe it, totally gutted. KU soon put that right. absolutely brilliant. We caned this mix for a long time after. Also went to see them a few weeks after that at elements in London, just as good live.

Id always wanted to know if it was listed as deep dish to maybe get more listeners as KU where fairly unknown at the time. and Deep Dish didn't do an essential mix for another 2 years so its unlikely they even recorded an essential mix in 2001. I asked Mathew Roberts on the Global Underground site He replied

Mathew Roberts

nah.. DD just dropped out last minute, so we got a call saying, "can u do an emix, need it in 2 days?" so we stayed up all day and nite, 40 hours straight and did it.. lovely. the joys of coffee and skunk.. nice

I loved the way they used samples from loads on movies in it. It made it that bit more special. Much as i loved Deep Dish at the time. There was no way they could do better than this mix
Oakenfold - Space, Ibiza 1999 is my classic... i always go back to this on a semi-monthly basis... just a classic emix.
yup gotta agree there great mix shame he stopped giving a shit

#1045575Post 155 of 184

Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

Oakey's Space ibiza 1999 is probably my most played set in the summer as it shouts ibiza at you.

Nalin & Kanes "Open Your Eyes" sends shivers down me every time it comes on .. just like The Taste Experience's "Summersault" does (the track that should have been on GU 013) and Cass & Slide's Perception (the track that sums up the unique inside of Space).

Oakey gave a shit when he played all his 97-99 classics in Liverpool last year ... maybe he was pining for his Cream days.

Damn ... I'm now checking flight prices for Sasha @ Space in September !
