jib i totally dug 3/4 of no country for old men then that last 1/4 all about the sheriff, what the FUCK was that all about??!!

as for the road now thats sublime!

#987464Post 87 of 495

Re: What book are you reading now?

yeah the stuff with the sherrif was a bit odd. im glad they didnt incorporate that much of his life story in the movie. however, i would have been interested to see the part with the female hitcher in the movie, but i guess the coen bros felt it wasnt relevant to the film. i still enjoyed both a lot.

the road was a great book. really looking forward to the movie this year w/ viggo mortenson.

#987468Post 88 of 495

Re: What book are you reading now?

yeah viggo is pretty immense in his roles ala a history of violence and eastern promises so he should definately be good in the road!

Re: What book are you reading now?

If you're into some hardcore scifi, yeah it's great. The story covers three generations of a family that goes from the early 21st (near future for us) century where information is traded, and reputation is accrued, to the far future where humans choose to live in computer simulations and creating bodies when they feel like it. The far future story has a group of them travelling to a brown drawf star to find an alien artefact which is actually a router plugged into the galactic information higway, except for the humans to port through, they'd have had to make drastic changes to their makeup and thoughts.

The story reads like a roller coaster ride, the ideas are pretty far out and sometimes they just go over my head, and other times I just can't help thinking no fucking way. Fun nonetheless.

His other books like The Atroticy Arcrhives (magic meets maths, Cthullu meets espionage) are slightly more mundane and funny.

Re: What book are you reading now?

i've been just getting into Tommy Lee's biography Tommyland. Pretty good stuff so far. You can learn a lot from a guy who has lived the lives most of us only dream of, and then fucked it up...only to live to tell about it.

Re: What book are you reading now?

Since I moved to sf I have a nasty habit of reading like 4-5-6 books at once -opposed to plowing through them one at a time. Anyone else do this? Any negatives?

No Logo by Naomi Klein Branding and the evils of brands.

& SIZE=1

Chasing Cool Branding and the essence creating and maintaining a cool brand.

&

The Philosophy of Andy Warhol by Andy Warhol Basically Andy talking about life and experience through his pretty quirky filter. Pretty fun read.

& (the bane of my existence)

Processing (Creative Coding and Computational Art) by Ira Greenberg Basically a bible for the data visualization application processing. It's a bitch but it's really fucking amazing what some people are doing with it. http://www.vimeo.com/615344/ http://www.vimeo.com/646107

I do that.

Aside from school texts and MCAT shit, I'm reading a book on Commodities, Thomas Paine, and Greek Mythology all at the same time.

i hate doing that, maybe it's just me, but i like to keep my head wrapped around one at a time. to me i get more out of it than when i've tried to ready a few at a time.

Re: What book are you reading now?

right now I'm reading The Horses Mouth by Joyce Cary (I think thats the author) freakonomics was good. celestine prophecy was really good, if yer into that sort of thing. Did anyone read all 3 of that series though? I thought the 2nd and 3rd were weak, I was disappointed. Stranger in a Strange Land, I re-read that every so often just so I don't forget.
