gramatically incorrect. i think what you meant was: Thou shalt have no fun.

Re: miketpoto
^ there are a lot of fallacies in his post. im starting with one. i dont want to bible bash but i know my scriptures very very well and his post is a prime example of taking things out of context. which is very predominant amongst most churches
I am very interested in knowing what you speak of here can you give me specific examples of how I have twisted scripture?
Explain that again please.
Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
so in following this verse one understands that if you are given a set if instructions to follow in worshiping God if you deviate from them in any fashion you are now adding to or taking away from that which you were told to do or not to do
Does this also mean that you do not approve of the use of intruments as is common in for example, Africa? Over there a service is usually a big celebration with drums 'n stuff, pretty cool music too if I may say so...
Yao if the africans you speak of are worshiping the God of the Bible then according to scripture they are not doing it as God has asked. It does not apply if they are worshiping gods similar to the Greeks worship of gods. that is a whole different story
I also think it is imperitive to understand that God does not disapprove of music. It is just not authorized to use in worshiping Him.
Re: miketpoto
I also want to point out that the reason I made the creation thread (which started all this) was for a good discussion. If someone chooses to follow up with learning more about the bible and God then I am up for it.
Many of you know me from the very early months of this forums birth. (like 4-6 months after it started) and I have said and done some things that are very very un-Christian. I can think of a couple of stories that I wrote that were evidence of my sinful living. I was raised by parents who were Christains but had some ways about them that were classified as un-Godly living according to scripture. That caused me to not take the Word as serious as I should have. But as I have grown older I decided to give the Bible a good hard scrutinizing. As a result I have grown in knowledge in leaps and bounds.
As a result of that I am now remarried to my wife after 12 years of off and on very rocky and unstable relationship. Some of you may remember over a year ago in a post I made that things were at an all time low. We just remarried 3 weeks ago and I can say without a doubt that we are happier than we were when we first met and things will be OK. I have a 16 month old son that some of you may remember when I posted his birth. I can say that none of this would have been possible without God being my guide.
To make a long story short I am posting things like the creation thread and this thread because I know what power is in God and the Holy Scripture. I want tp provoke thought in people that normally would not think on such things.
Think back to the posts I have made in the last few weeks and you will see that I have not been a "holy roller" or tried to puch anything on anyone. All my post have been thought provoking and informative.
I enjoy a good discussion. To think that I was going to leave this forum last week as I could not find a good discussion.
Re: miketpoto
Oh CDJ my dear friend, John is merely referring to the book of Revelations which he wrote and the prophecies contained in it. There is no referrence to the instructions given to worship God.
Now, you quote Acts 2:38 and jump directly to 47. You say that the only way to be called Christian is to repent, be baptized, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Well, between those two verses there are others which say that you should attend services, assist in the breaking of bread, sell your possesions and goods, and attend the temple.
The scriptures which you reffer to in Ephesians is taken out of context. Ephesians 5 is advice given by the Lord to the Saints and families. It does not talk about church services. The Bible also does not state that you shouldn't use instruments in religious services.
My next point is: Which is the TRUE Church of Jesus Christ?
Re: miketpoto
My Church! You know the Roman Catholics. We are as is; the spin stops here.

Re: miketpoto
Oh CDJ my dear friend, John is merely referring to the book of Revelations which he wrote and the prophecies contained in it. There is no referrence to the instructions given to worship God.
2 timothy 3:16 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God andn is proitable for doctrine for reproof for correction for instruction in righteousness
Lets start a bit earlier in Acts so we can get the context of what Peter is saying because to quote a scripture without knowing the context of what is being said is dangerous.
refer back to Acts 1:4 where Jesus tells the apostles Act 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Acts 2:1 -2:4 tells us of the event that Jesus was referring to in Acts 1:4
After the apostles were given the Holy Spirit they were speaking in tounges and different languages Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Now verse 6 is important to anyone who thinks they can speak in tounges. If you have ever heard anyone who thinks they can speak oin tounges you will notice that it is garble and not a language at all. Lets see what the Bible says about the people who were given the gift of tounges Act 2:6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. Act 2:8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
verses 9-11 is a description of the pople who were there from other nations and is not as important to understanding what I am saying
verse 13 says some accused the apostles of being drunk
starting in verse 14-36 is where the "meat" of the context lies. It is where Peter stands up and starts to Preach to them and quotes the prophet Joel to explain to the people what is going on. If you have a Bible this would be a good read to help understand.
Now in verse 37 is where the change takes place to what the people who heard the preaching reaction was to Peter
Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
I have put into bold the question to Peter "what shall we do" and Peters response was
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
now verse 39 is where we wee it applies to us
Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
so to clarify what was meant by "all that are afar off" that is not in distance it is in the reference of time
Act 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand sous.
baptism is required to be saved and is expressly for the remission of sins as so stated
now lets look at the closing verses of the chapter
Act 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
this is just one of the many verses that tells us what to do in worshiping God. At this time Jesus had already ascended to Heaven Acts 1:2 Breaking bread refers to the comminion given to us by Jesus at the last supper. (Matthew 26:26-29) It is important to see that "they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine." Here it is clear that they did not change or adapt the doctrine to anything that man thinks is OK in worship or living as a child of God. There are also many other verses in other books that say this as well. Man is not to change the gospel to meet his desires.
Act 2:44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
Act 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
more proof that they did not adapt the doctrine to their ideas of what it is
this leads us top verse 47 where we see that there is only one church sanctified by God (I will get back to this later) Act 2:47 Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Does that clear things up any?
I will get to the other questions here after lunch. After all that typing I have worked up an appetite
Re: miketpoto
^ No it doesnt. You still havent explained how that verse in Revelations is pertaining to instructions on how to worship God.
What i meant to ask you by quoting acts was this: Have you sold your possesions and goods, and do you attend the temple? If not, are you still a christian?
Re: miketpoto
herm. that is a good question.
Re: miketpoto
Didn't Jesus say it would be easier to pass a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven ( not religous so gimme some slack on the wording) but in comparison to the times of jesus arn't all of us in the west absolutely loaded .
You might lead a righteous life but ure gonna burn like the rest of us
Re: miketpoto
The scriptures which you reffer to in Ephesians is taken out of context. Ephesians 5 is advice given by the Lord to the Saints and families. It does not talk about church services. The Bible also does not state that you shouldn't use instruments in religious services.
Ephesians 5:19 is instruction so I again refer to 2 Timothy 3:16 and add verse 17 to it
2Ti 3:16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
for those of you who may see the word perfect here it does not mean perfect as in flawless, it comes from the greek word artios which means complete not flawless.
it is not taken out of context it is just a description of how they were told to sing hymns
The Bible also does not state that you shouldn't use instruments in religious services
I will try to explain what I said earlier
Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord
This verse is broken into 2 different directives. The first being "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs." This is what we are told to do when we are with each other and to each other. The second half of the verse is different from the first and relates to what we do when we are with God. "singing and making melody in your hearst to the Lord." The greek word used here is ado which is a primary verb and means "to sing" Singing is acapella and musical instruments do not accompany it. "Making melody in your hearts to the Lord." is clear.
Melody is and agreeable succession of sounds; a succession so regulated asnd modulated as to please the ear. It differs from harmony inasmuch as melody is an agreeable successin of sounds by a single voice.
Webster defines melody as this - 1. pleasing sounds or an agreeable arrangement of such sounds 2. music B a succession of tones constituting, in combination, a whole B the chief part or voice in a composition; the air [<greek melos song + aoidos singer]
It is the air that comes from the mouth. It can not come from a musical instrument. You do not use an intrument in your heart. You use your "heart" as the highest act of worship. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. And in speaking we exhale air and all this adds up to acapella.
This is why we are told to 2Ti 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. because if we do not study we can miss the point.
Just because the Bible does not specifically mention something as right or wrong does mean that it is not addressed. The Bible does not say in words that smoking pot is sinful but any person that calls themselves children of God will not refute that it is a sin.
^ No it doesnt. You still havent explained how that verse in Revelations is pertaining to instructions on how to worship God.
It means exactly what it says. We do not add to or take away from what scripture says or we are condemned. There is no other way to explain what is in its most simple terms.
What i meant to ask you by quoting acts was this: Have you sold your possesions and goods, and do you attend the temple? If not, are you still a christian?
we give on Sunday in the collection plate.
the temple is a building and it is where they attended. Today we attend in our buildings
