Re: How was WMC??

Nice photos. I really dig the ones of chus & ceballos behind all that smoke. If someone made that much smoke while I was playing i'd have their fucking head on a pole. I can't stand that stuff.

i like some of his stuff... the bedrock cd was good. that remix of ride at the end of this mix is even more awful than the original (and plethora of shitty remixes)

god i hate that track

Re: How was WMC??

Tuesday... the Pawn Shop was out of control. Those of you that made it there know what I mean. Van M played a nice warm up set but had some sound problems Diggers came on and rocked it. Hung out with devon and rubyraks for a little bit. Luckly for us Fanciulli never showed and we got to hear 4.5 hours of Diggers. The club turned the house lights after 5 and Diggers was killing it. You could tell he didnt want to stop. But he finally stopped around 5:30. Took a quick cab ride to the Warehouse to catch Danny Tenaglia for the first time. From thr minute I walked in until I left DT was fucking relentless. I had no expectains an was blown away.

Wednesday... I took the day off and saved up for the long weekend ahead.

Thurs... Went to the Proton Party and caught DJ Inc's nice downtempo set. I even got his promo before we headed to see Peter Kruder at the Tiffany. Nice start to an evening. Met rubyraks for a drink and then headed out to Spin for the LMR party. I saw a ton of old Atlanta friends and a lot of [ms] peeps there...ska, picklemonkey, devon, jib to name a few. Fanciulli stole the show. He dropped the infamous "Washing Machine Track". Easily the most memorable moment of WMC. Sander came on right after and was rocking it until he played the cheesiest 80s remixes back to back to back. It was so bad I left. It was my first time seeing Sander and it may be my last.

Friday...Made it to the Balance Record party for a quick second and caught Fortier before I had a quick bite and went to Amika to see Soul Mekanic tear it up. Left there and went to Harrisons for the EDM Digital party. Josh Relysis played a nice prog breaks set. Haberhsam was playing some nice downtempo stuff before Darkarma played a very nice live PA set. Hung out with ska and Localizer for most of the night. I went home early to save some energy for the Ultra Afterparty.

Saturday... Went to the Spleen party and met chuckc, remoh, picklemonkey, rubyraks, and ska. I chilled out there most of the day listening to some great music. I did make it to the frisky party for a few before heading to some hotel for free rum and red bulls. Left to get ready for the Ultra Carry On. What a huge disappointment. Doors didnt open till after 12 (the ticket said 11) and they closed at 5. James and Hernan were going back to back which was a pleasent suprise until Lavelle came on and killed the vibe. He wasnt even mixing!!!! People were booing it was so bad. The crowd was terrible. Way too many fucked up kiddies, light shows, guidos doing G. If you left the floor you werent getting back there. The sound was horrible and the only speakers were in the front near the booth. Thank God Lavelle only played for 30 min. Diggers came on and played a short set and had the place moving almost instantly. Sasha played for a bit and rocked it. For the last hour or so they tagged re-editing songs on the fly. Makes me want to fly to NYC this weekend. I couldnt believe they didnt even play 3 hours. As good as they were I will never attend another Ultra event.

WMC was great as usual but not as much fun as years past. I had a great time meeting a few [ms] post whores and hanging out with old friends. Cant wait to do it again next year.

i thought his set rocked it, kept me moving until they kicked us out. the sound in that club was the best i heard all week.

I agree with you about the sound except for the 4 or 5 times that the rear-left stack of speakers cut out for 15 seconds at a time.

Re: How was WMC??

for the record, because of some really whacked issues at nikki beach, desyn recorded that emix with no monitors. sounds pretty good to me for having the pressure of a live mix plus all of this shit on his plate.

now that the fog has cleared i'm gonna work on a review for bringthebeats which will include some pretty cool vids and pics. i don't think they are as good as what we got last year (man i still check out those boat cruise vids from time to time), but they're worth while nonethless.

quick highlights for me:

the fabric party.... man i've personally never heard diggers go off like that. and imo, pawn shop is the best club in miami.

luke killed it all week. he was put in some pretty weird situations in terms of who he was following, who was following him, technical issues, and booth placement but despite it all he dropped bombs continuously and always played fresh beats. every floor was packed and jumping, we were all super happy for him.

unlike many others, i'm not really sold on miami or south beach. thank God for the many music junkies and the solid beats all around, because the cabbies all suck, the restaurant service not so good and always-over priced, all the styles look the same - full of silicone and neon, and the city itself, super dirty.

but overall, good times. can't see myself not going next year though i was super happy to leave when we did.
Hi guys, just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came to our party at the astor on saturday (spleen/angora/dinamo/fiknfrak) .. The people that attended had a genuine love for the music and were rewarded with one of the best lineups of the week. Many thanks to Mehmet and all of the Spleen/Angora crew including Kenan for passing along our RSVP info. Cheers guys, looking forward to next year. Best of luck with the new label.

Agreed!!!. The Pawn Shop is the shit. The perfect place to hear Diggers do his thing. His set was easily the best I heard all week. The stuff he was playing in the last hour or so was just nasty especially when they turend the house lights up on him.

Re: How was WMC??

James Zabiela at the private mansion party ROCKED! Also, Sahsa and Digweed at the arena. Really, really awesome show ...except for James from Uncle. Sorry, but no mixing and just a lack of vibe. I feel bad but he actually got Booed.

Re: How was WMC??

SO many things to think back on - WoW!!! An additional 2 1/2 days made a HuGe difference to how our weekend was taken in. Our arrival set the tone for the whole week. We wern't "Scheduled" to be in our room until Thursday at Noon, but my girl- hahaha.. she talked the guy into "lending" us a room for 15 minutes on Wednesday night tochange,etc...So - Totally changed, washed up & SmOkEd OuT ... 25 mins later - the 3 of us were good to go... SF- hahaha- if you're reading this.... as they smoked in the room - I was playing the piano for the locals in the hotel lobby. Songs I wrote when I was damn- like 13 yrs old.... = ) Good Stuff!!!

Off to Rumi - Luke F, James H, Christopher H....aha- only 1 block away- our hotel ended up RIGHT in the middle of everything we did for the most part- walking or taking like $6 cab ride, each of which was an AdVeNtUrE in itself!! = ) = ) (God blesss the cab drivers for putting up with the whole WMC week... you needed to go where? Hmm...not really sure- here works ;-) ;-) )

Friday afternoon- can we say LONG ASS LINE - Nikki Beach- FU on the line shiaaaat... Nonsense... they need to get that figured out for next time- people comin in from allover,etc.. too much SBeach drama for us.....

YUCA on Friday - also there- for Luke, Desyn, etc... good vibe, good time,SORRY to leave & not actually make it back, but while I was there...BRAVO!!! toyou !!! Did anyone else notice that the street light outside- as it changed colors actually changed the colors in the club????

Did Ultra again this year & was happy to do so....... Junkie XL last year really surprised me & I was looking forward to him again this year- & it was nice to be around & in different stages & tents that were unexpected throughout the day... tried for BED l8r that night, but the line was InSANE.. so off to the Arena we went! Great set by Sasha & Digweed!! = ) I missed James Z...which was a bummer, but I'll see him next time he's close, as his last performance had me Smilen when we left.

My fav = 4 sure... un-expected moments & nights, making me realize what cool ass friends I truly have- & making me appreciate the time away from my day to day as I should have.... "MWAH" ....thank you to everyone who's reading this & was involved.... Next year will be even Better!! :-)
I missed James Z...which was a bummer,but I'll see him next time he's close
but you missed James Lavelle too... so it all evens out. he sucked. seriously.

 We had this cab driver that wouldn't stop talking about the bitches and the faggots of Miami... the whole cab ride from our hotel to Jibgolly's hotel (like 30 blocks) he wouldn't shut up about how hot the Miami bitches were and how much he hated the faggots. good times.

Re: How was WMC??

thanks to all of you who came out for the spleen/angora/dinamo party @ astor hotel. i'm glad you enjoyed it! fun times... it sure was nice meeting fellow ms'ers! hopefully next year we'll be back with something better 8)

few of my highlights from wmc week: being that it was the 20th year i decided to attend the conference and to be honest, i really enjoyed the seminars/panels/forums i woke up for :P james zabiela's dvj demo was very impressive. the pool parties we're alright unfortunately the idma awards sucked (ended up leaving halfway) the om party @ mansion was one of my favorites, bc party @ b.e.d. was fun (although there were a few technical problems), the hustler party on sunday @ state was bumpin (derrick may laying it down proper), bubble soul party @ prive the first night (monday) was good aswell... i filed a dispute against ultra for what happened at the carry on. we had vip tix and were give gen admin when asked to speak with someone in charge there was no one from ultra at the ticket counter/press entrance... what a load of crap. anyway, i was reminded once more to make sure to avoid all large events where they don't show any effort to honour the service you pay for. nonetheless, things like this happen so not a big deal. m3 summit party on friday with mylo live, evil 9, ellen allien, the glimmers was a good alternative to nikki beach. we checked out nikki beach for the wmc closing party, i thought i was gonna pass out from the testasterone curtesy of all the guidos...

anyway,

looking forward to 2006 8)

Re: How was WMC??

Late getting on this thread...

The Conference definitely had some ups and downs.

First, a big thanks to everyone who played the Toes in the Sand party. Special thanks to Naveen G for an absolutely LUSH prog breaks set (Keep your eye on this guy!), Samer for some Proper deep progressive, Jondi & Spesh and Randall Jones & Hito for holding the party down and keeping everyone there even through the rain! Three cheers also to Deviant for an absolutely on-point set at the end of the night! Thanks also to Austin Leeds, Ty Tek, Thomas Penton, and Noel Sanger for dropping their latest. Shouts out to MS member Chuck C for downing some beers with us...were there any other MSers at the Toes party?? Pics of the day HERE

As for my total Conference experience (as a partier, not as a labelhead), I'd have to say I left this one feeling the most unfulfilled of all of them. The tastes of many DJs and crowds have shifted. There was a lot of bullshit, a lot of dudes hoping to score some fake tits...Sadly, it wasn't just Spring Breakers creating that vibe at the events. There were people there for the 'Conference' that were less interested in hearing the latest tracks and more interested in taking home conquest stories. Musically, overall there was a lot of acid, a lot of bounce, a lot of rehashed 80s crappy mashups and bootlegs, and less deep trippy vibes, and I just wasn't feeling it. I've had much better nights just sitting in front of studio monitors smoking a phatty listening to streams of new artists on Proton, a strong testament to the quality of lesser-known artists broadcast there! I found myself longing for the glory days of Renaissance and Baroque, the days where you'd walk into a peaktime frenzy of hundreds of sneaker-clad dancers riding on the wings of lush and angelic choruses.

(Speaking of Proton, Steve Gerrard gets three cheers for a proper set at the Proton party at Cafeteria...one of the highlights of the week)

Jadedly yours, :P Amy

Re: How was WMC??

Headrush, Your the first to say you did not have fun at the conference. Which is surpring. Also did you record any of the set at your party. I would defiently like to hear some Austin Leeds, Ty Tek, Thomas Penton, and Noel Sanger set. Well maybe next year. I did notice that there were a lot of horrible 80's pop tunes highlighted this yr at the conference. Which sucks I hated most of those songs back in the day and now I still hate them. Let hope some of the better hidden records will start to emerge instead of some of the crappy shit I have been hearing so far on the Wmc sets. I will admit I like desyn massielo sets but that is it so far.

Re: How was WMC??
Headrush, Your the first to say you did not have fun at the conference. Which is surpring.
I've heard a few people mention that this year wasn't as good as years past. The parties that I attended seemed to be full of music-loving 'normal' people. The only time where I encountered beefed-up guidos sipping their G and holding glowsticks was at the Ultra Carry-On. I guess it's a pick-and-choose type of thing and I made sure that I went to events that were either RSVP/Invite only or very small venues without the 'big name' stars (only exception being LMR Party on Thursday night).

#395768Post 156 of 214

Re: How was WMC??

I have got to agree with amy (headrush) that this years wmc was not the same feel....both musically and crowd wise...

This was my 5th straight year and clearly was my least favorite....nobody blew me away...and the crowds were just ok....

I prob had the most fun hanign with all the ms'er and headrush at the astor party......just a chilled out vibe there.

And seems to me that sasha/digweed was way way to commercialized...its almost like they threw that event for there own personal financial gains...it sure wanst for the fan.
