Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

Not sure yet, probably not his greatest cd, but that doesnt mean I dont like it. I havent listened to the first disc completely yet.cd 2 is actually quite good, especially the last 30-40 mins. only given it one full listen though, I enjoyed it. Good prog house sounds. I liked Balance 18, even though it was just a little bit different then Id expect from Nick Warren. As far as his more current cds, I thought GU Lima was badass and Paris is underrated. Still great to have a new Nick Warren mix and cd2 is a good club set even though its a bit mellow at first(not a bad thing either) Also, it probably because Ive been VERY spoiled by Digweed's Live in London mix, which is AMAZING

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

I received this today and will be playing it this week, looking forward to it.

I dug out GU Lima last week and played it and really didnt enjoy it. Only 1-2 tracks that I enjoyed and the rest was very much filler IMO. Not my favourite Nick mix I must say.

Mmmm That was the last Warren release I really enjoyed. Maybe you´ll like this one then.

#1667219Post 84 of 138

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

Lima was entirely based on unreleased tracks, it was forced, despite a few gems here and there.

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

So after listening to the second cd several times this week, i have to say I really enjoy it. Its a great mix with some solid tracks. it just kinda leaves me wanting more, a third disc would have really hit the spot. Still need to give the first cd a proper listen.

Same here!! I had to buy a digital copy off beatport because HMV cancelled my pre order. Stupid.

Hopefully tonight, or Thursday night I will give this comp. a listen. I need to be in the right mood and state of mind to fully appreciate the complexity of nick's downtempo stuff.

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

finally got this!! after first listen, disk one is way more mellower then i was anticipating. alot of complex sounds that will take a few listens to really be able to understand. i do like the softer side though.

disk two is pretty damn good, maybe one or two tracks that I didn't care for and seemed out of place, but overall I really enjoyed it. mixed awesome too.

Disc 1 is special, as someone said before it is very complex. I was blown gladly surprised the first time I listened to it, but it is the type of music that grows on you. I will need a few more listens before I can totally understand it. Disc 2 is very very good too. I felt like it is a modern form of progressive house, always with nick's signature sound of course.

Very happy with the whole compilation, and after all these years, Nick is still up there as one of the big guys of the genre

#1668031Post 107 of 138

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

I'm still listening to this and enjoying it every time, despite the fact that disc 1 sounds like "Soundgarden", sounds cool as the same disc 2, very good tracks on it. I like as I said.

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

cd one is really growing on me. one of the best down tempo mixes i have ever heard. brilliant work.

#1671597Post 109 of 138

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

Admittedly I have not played it too many times, but from what I have heard so far this is not one of my favourite releases from Nick/Renaissance.

Its difficult to comment on CD1 as you have to be in a certain type of mood to appreciate a downtempo mix, and I have not been in that type of mood yet so it may grow on me.

I feel that CD2 does not get going until track 7 - everything before that is very forgettable IMO, no tracks that I would care to play too many times. It then picks up with some good beats & tunes but overall I was a little underwhelmed.

I do think the downtempo/uptempo release idea has run its course now. The best one is Warrens GU24 from Iceland, and Hernan's first was good, but other than that they are not really for me.

amazing amazing!!! cd1 perfect chill out and cd2 nice build awesome grooves better then I thought:)

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

My strategy for CD1 is not working.. I always feel like I should play it late at night, and end up falling asleep in the middle of it.. Its really good tho, it brings me way down hah

agreed 100%. haven't really given cd 2 a proper spin yet. 1st disc is so good, can't stop listening to it. nick excels at downtempo. fuckin' excellnt work.

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

In the right setting they are probably both amazing. Funny how that works. Vacation are typically the best environment for these types of comps IMO.

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

I gotta say both Hernan and Nick comps are typical growers, i used to hate hernan's now i almost got it memorized (at least cd2) and after initial disappointment nick's started to grow too.

This is the reason I'm hesitant to buy this release... not digging the Soundgarden sound these days. Still we are talking about Nick Warren here.....

#1672604Post 118 of 138

Re: Nick Warren Renaissance Master Series

He did a great job with the first cd, As I said before, if it sounds like soundgarden but this has a complete different atmosphere and sounds really good there is something inside that its great.
