Re: Is America killing dance music?

Shadow was playing trap/bass music when we saw him a couple nights ago here in NOLA. Listened to that crap for 2 hours waiting for him to come on. We were thinking "surely Shadow's not going to play this shit." But he totally did, we could only handle about 45mins of it and had to break out. I now know what his "All Basses Covered" dj set is....

all the good bits are imported I'm guessing...

for a developing country we are doing ok...bit worrying a lot of our gas and coal are privately owned and the mining magnate elite have used the media to tell us that they shouldn't be taxed heavily on the BILLIONS they earn....why worry? all those natural resources will last forever or just grow back within a few years right?

enjoy that tangent kids.

its all Tiddles fault.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I feel too - there's still good parties and vibes at U.S. venues and the Electric Daisy parties have me intrigued. Unfortunately, there's a dominant "Vegas/bottle service" vibe that runs a lot of clubs and brings with it a lot of douchey assholes with a huge sense of entitlement along with it.

Re: Is America killing dance music?

There apparently is a little bit of justice in the world. Last weekend, DJ Shadow‘s set was cut short at Miami nightclub Mansion, for being “too futuristic.” The internet obviously blew up with fans worldwide defending the legendary DJ who was performing as part of his All Bases Covered Tour. Today, Mansion issued a public apology to DJ Shadow: “We offer our most sincere apologies to DJ Shadow and his fans for his set being cut short at Mansion this past weekend. This error should not have happened and will not happen again, especially as we pride ourselves on creating an environment that cultivates and respects innovators such as DJ Shadow.

Re: Is America killing dance music?

Do not really understand why, they cut his set. In addition, the club owners don't know the dj invited to play or what.

america is killing more than dance music :MadNow:

Re: Is America killing dance music?

Clubs are for business, don't be surprised. If artists still go and play there and people still go and spend their money there, nothing will change. If hip hop sells more than house, then hip hop will be played. Skrillex? there you have a big example. He was a "golden artist" last year, where is he now??? business is around edm, and rock, and pop, and even around "industrial Norwegian black gothic fukin' new-vintage-style dark metal". Business gives a fuck about our good taste in music, that's how I see the scene. What you described in the posts above is the same that I see here in buenos Aires, like 20000km away from usa; and I can guess in Europe is the same, and in South Africa, too. I know, I haven't discovered anything new...

Re: Is America killing dance music?

White, male, non-gay Americans and dance music shouldn't even be in the same sentence. This is where they belong:

A lot of the time, it's a sign that the promoters or the club themselves are clueless as to what/the genre of music the dj plays and are going with the name recognition that will bring people into the club.

Re: Is America killing dance music?

Trap seems to be a dub step merger with Southern Hip Hop as to electro house to commercial RNB.

Seems an easy genre to mix...just cue up the gunshot and drop the bass.
