Re: Dj sneak calls swedish house mafia "dj actors"
he's far from having trouble getting gigs though ( actually he plays here next month )

the thing thats wrong here ( in this whole thread ) is that sneak is old school, the stuff he plays is new but old sounding and the kids today who are fresh on the scene just aint listening to that sort of stuff yet, i'd go as far to say that sasha and digweed are in the same category but these guys stay true to older values because they were brought up with the older way of doing thing so imo he has a point when talking about shm ( spit spit spit ) these guys just play cd's and although it may not be our/ur taste ( which is understandable ) they are hardly showing kids today what being a true dj is all about but at the same time they are bringing kids into the scene which is keeping the whole thing going..... people keep forgetting that people age over time
And what is this older way of doing things. Most DJ's just play CD's that's all Digweed, Howells etc do too yes they play the tracks in some sort of coherent order (some people call that programming, another over the top phrase). I wouldn't hold your hopes on young kids having some revelation after lightening to a Transitions show and suddenly becoming Sasha, Digweed or sneak fans. You only have to look at the crowds at Bedrock or Renaissance nights to see that. The average punter in there are in their mid thirty's to forty's.

Re: Dj sneak calls swedish house mafia "dj actors"

I think by older way he means not having beautiful douchy David Guetta style locks and leather jackets and fucking around during the superbowl halftime. IE just playing good music is more important than looking cool.

Fucking hair cuts now as well. Some of you lot are starting to sound like them odd bods who talk about Linford's Lunch Box and not his running.

Obviously you missed the Digweeds hair photos on the Australian tour a few years back. Or Danny Howells wearing make up

its like comparing a joiner that used the manual saw to the one the now uses the electrical saw, old way is using the ear to not only beat match properly but also use correct pitch to blend the tunes, now technology does all that for u long before u even purchase the tunes thus giving sneak etc a ground to moan the fuck out of new dj's because they have been brought up in a technology inflicted age, i can totally see where sneak is coming from because a lot of the manual skill has been lost to computer programs and imo has also at the same time down graded the quality of the stuff ur hearing today.

Word up to this. I got mad love for DJ Sneak, but when peeps start complaining like this, it comes off more like my hardcore is harder than yours kind of bullshit.

Different music appeals to different audiences - if you really want to lay that comment somewhere more appropriate lay it towards the peeps that wouldn't have a DJ career because of an agent that is trying to diversify their client's exposure into markets that would give them attention for something that their skills wouldn't normally merit them attention for (ie. Pauly D from Jersey Shore or Paris Hilton)

Really mades why don't you point out the points I have missed. So far all you have spouted out is some odd ball nonsense about Sharram & Sander, in which you contradicted yourself. Like res0's remarks about jackets and haircuts you seem to think a bit of show-boating is some sort of issue as to whether a DJ is any good. Its like some moaning about Sneak because has has a silly beard, moustache or overweight. If you don't like there music don't listen to it. I've lived next door to someone for years and never listened to any of their shit.

So you moan about technology moving on so people don't need to apply a craft then tell me I have to accept change.

This craft you hold in such high esteem is no longer required in order to do that job, You have people like Hawtin, Craig and even Sasha have embraced the technological change that has erupted in the last 10 or so years and I think there have been plenty of interviews with them as to what they feel the advantages are. Even Digweed himself said (and I agree) it matters what comes out of the speakers and not what they mixed it on. You either like it or you don't. The technology a DJ hasn't downgraded the quality of a DJ's set. Shit Dull as dish water music has.

This one is even odder. Just because you became a Sasha fan following your Happy Hardcore days doesn't mean we are going to expect and invasion of ex Happy Hardcore fans. Its like saying I was in to psychobilly and now I like Sasha, so I'm sure there will be an invasion of guys & girls with quiff's, brothel creeper shoes and double bass's all becoming Sasha fans. I reckon you have as much chance of that happening as us seeing anything productive happening with the underground supper solders who train and sleep, train & sleep.

i don't moan about technology changing but others do, technology has degraded the whole scene as far as i,m concerned because its now a lot easier for a shit musician to release his/her music and of course the technology to make tunes is also significantly been made easier for people to get a hold of!!! have u been on beatport recently and checked out new releases ?

Not really. People music tastes change over time, but that doesn't mean their tastes will become more or less credible over that time as credibility is just a matter of personal opinion. Sasha & Digweed will be considered more credible with their own fans just a SHM are to theirs. But according to some people here its all about haircuts, jackets, and looking like a miserable cunt behind the decks.

Facepalm. This is either hilarious, or very sad, and I can't figure out which! In 2012 you can pay someone to make a track for you, pay someone to buy it enough times for you on different accounts so it enters the beatport top100, pay someone to get you loads of soundcloud plays so it looks popular, what's next? Pay someone to mix records under the table for you while you stand there in the dj box, twisting knobs, fist pumping and blowing kisses to the ladys? We, the electronic music community, don't care about chart positions, plays or (fake) hype. We care about carefully crafted, quality, non disposable music that has been made with love, and as a result: touches our soul. Share this photo if you agree with us. This madness needs to be called out!

Soma records

At the end of the day, personal taste its the key but.... you know :not me:

Re: Dj sneak calls swedish house mafia "dj actors"

The other day some "Ghost Studio" published an ad, candidly admitting they were behind many Beatport Top 100s (naming label names). Wait, not a MASTERING studio. They write, record, master and deliver a "hit track" for hire, like Motown or the Brill Building, only shit.

Now this "scandal" (yeah).

So I'm asking, considering all this, how credible is the DJ Top100? Popularity contest MY ASS! Turned monkeys like Guetta and the horrid Swedish Maffia into mainstream superstars. This people PAY for their Top 10 here and Top 100 there, that shouldn't be allowed. In the end quality label (whatever that means) will go out of business.

#1607611Post 119 of 144

Re: Dj sneak calls swedish house mafia "dj actors"

Whatever stuff gets the most $dolla$ backing in front of the most eyes is going to be the most popular...generally speaking.

I just bought about 50 bux worth of tunes on beatport about 2 hrs ago from mainly nobody labels who are making recut disco, r+b, and house edits that i've discovered from the revenge, ooft! and superbreak and other small labels i've found online. and that is awesome. i've found so much stuff i love due to soundcloud and peeps here like garryx who've given me a heads up and that makes me happy.

diggers was the guy who got me into listening to this whole genre and is my fav dj of all time who can do no wrong, but i've moved on from his sound, so it is great to have other places like soundcloud to discover new tunes. its like banned1 said earlier (barring any incoherent nonsense to the contrary): times and people change and thanks to teh internertZ that is a good thing. But also it is a bad thing because any jackass with a soundcard can pollute the environment and it becomes more of a game of rising up above the mass of generic shit that becomes the problem.
