No but I find it all a bit childish. Grown men going on about Man Like, Vortex, Alexander Coe, Sashweed etc. Its hard to take any of it seriously

Re: Dj sneak calls swedish house mafia "dj actors"
Have either of you two actually been to Ibiza? because it doesn't sound like it.
haha no. I guess my opinion is therefore rendered invalid. afterall,

Let's assume I had gone to Ibiza, and my comment was as is.

Your reaction would have been: did you even go to x y z club?

Let's assume I had gone to Ibiza and my comment was that I had gone to x y z club?

Your reaction would have been: Did you even see such and such dj?

Let's assume I had gone to Ibiza, that I had gone to x y z club, and that I had seen such and such dj?

Your reaction, predictably, would have been, were you there on such and such night while they played such and such tune?

So this is why I can say what I said, based on the interactions with people who have, and the dj's who steer away from that place towards more secluded scene-oriented venues and locations. I had wanted to go there for years, but from what I've been reading, it's not worth the money. So, I put my money elsewhere. Back into the scene here, back into the scene in other nearby cities.

And, of course, it is for this reason why the wmc and the related industry parties will always be superior to umf. (I've been to both, to save you time asking). but even so, I'm not even sure how long that will last. the spring breakers, meatheads, etc...

The issue comes down to this: is this scene-oriented, or is it mass-appeal oriented? Clearly people who have been in the scene, been involved in the scene, and have spread that gospel see the so-called blasphemy of people producing piss-poor lowest common denominator music to play on clear channel stations so that moms in minivans can feel hip and cool. And they're getting tired of it.

Some of us react with a bit of seriousness. (Me, for instance). Some of us react to this trend with humor (Bones, etc.). But at the end of the day, it's a disapproval of whoring house music. and some people think indifference or simply keeping their thoughts to themselves is not the way to go about it. Sneak, Bones, Ferrer, etc...case in point.

A few side thoughts:

-Nobody is really saying this about dubstep. Nobody is saying dubstep is fake ass shit. They're just saying dubstep sucks. -Nobody is really saying this about dj's other than guetta and swedish house mafia and maybe one or two others my mind is blanking on right now. -The 'underground' should simply be re-termed 'scene-oriented'. maybe Dom would understand.

I wish sean cusick would write about this.

I'm not taking issue with people who like Digweed. I'm taking issue with grown men (or women) who indulge into childish banter like the whole vortex thing (which apparently is a serious thing). You can like a DJ or music without having to act like a moronic child. I'm not defending the Swedish House Mafia either, I just don't see the point of resentment and hate towards other DJ's whether its Swedish House Mafia, Deadmouse, Digweed, Oakenfold or anyone else.

No one gives a fuck about dubstep because dubstep DJ's are not getting paid thousands of pounds/dollars per gig and are not playing to a massive audience. Like I said earlier in this thread Sneak made derogatory remarks about Sasha & Digweed a few years back. If dubstep DJ's were getting big money and audiences, you would see more anger and resentment towards them.

And which DJ's steer clear of Ibiza and head towards more secluded scene-oriented venues and locations? I'm willing to bet most DJ's played Ibiza more times last year than any secluded scene-oriented venues and locations you could mention.

I have been involved with the afterhours scene in Toronto for since fucking 1988. DJ Sneak was mediocre then and still is. Amazing how you can build a career on mediocredty. Actors or not, they entertain and at the end of the day that's all anybody wants.

Re: Dj sneak calls swedish house mafia "dj actors"

There will always be advocates of "popular vote", making fun of other peoples opinions and keeping saying underground doesn't exist and so on. These people, like chunky in here, firstly say 'there is no point in hating dj xyz' and in the following sentence use extremely hateful ("retard", "moronic child") evaluations towards anyone who disagrees. A typical back-stabbing ad-hominem tactics.

The irony of it, it all happens in a specialized 'scene-oriented' community.

No if you think you are better than someone based on your own personal taste in music then you are a moron. But you go one step further and say the Majority of the people don't have any taste for the music. That is the post of a moronic child. If you really want I will post the contradictions you made in your original post. Though I think they are pretty obvious
That's the difference to true underground edm stars: they don't give a phuck about what other people say. Just as JD won't ever be doing silly jumping around with hands straight up when playing. Luckily.
This is the funniest part of your quote. You use Digweed as an example of behaviour you find acceptable behind the decks. I can think of many DJ's who have indulged in such behaviour in the past Ritchie Hawtin, Sven Vath, Lee Burridge etc this has no merit as whether they are good DJ's or not. You have just tried to take something irrelevant from Digweed's performace and tried use as something derogatory about other DJs .

Fuck me we will be on the Oakenfold Monkey gags soon.

On a side note why the fuck does everyone stand glaring into the DJ both all night when the DJ is doing nothing of interest all night. Oakenfold at Cream would be showboating and interacting with the crowd all night. If the DJ is not interacting why bother look at them? Its one of the worst trends to evolve in clubland in the last 12 years.

Re: Dj sneak calls swedish house mafia "dj actors"

Chunky - I'm not sure what Sneak said about Sasha and Digweed. I agree that whatever he could have said digweed was simply retarded. If he was talking about Sasha re: ableton, wel, there's always been that debate. I can at least understand the argument he's making (assuming that's the case here).

but whatever he said about sasha and digweed, right or wrong, has no bearing on what he said about SHM, which imho, i think he's dead on.

Sneak might not be an amazing dj, but there's one thing he isn't: fake as shit.

some thoughts from the morning drive;

-in 50 years, I'm not sure we'll even have DJ's who play like digweed, zabiela, sasha, hernan, etc... it may have simply devolved into doing exactly what SHM have and continue to do: press play and wave your hands in syncopation with the fireworks. will there be any dj's who take you on a musical journey anymore? or just play guetta remixes you hear on clearchannel all day? that's a future I don't think I want, and I'm sure most of you probably don't want that either. And that's why I kinda take a stand on this. It wouldn't matter whether Sneak said what he said or not - his comments were a good source of sparking the discussion. -and once the djing bit goes southward, expect the music to eventually head down that path. I hope Nomad in the Dark and Paronator live long long fucking lives.

I listened to Be As One this morning. Serious tune. What happened to all the musicality and so forth?

Here's his rant from 2009
HEY WHAT UP PEOPLE! I KNOW IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE MY LAST BLOG BUT IT'S ALSO BEEN CRAZY IN SNEAK INC LAND. I HAVE A FEW THINGS TO TALK ABOUT THIS TIME AND I NEED TO BE HEARD TO THE FULLEST! AS YOU ALL KNOW I AM ONE OF THE LEADING HOUSE MUSIC DJS AND PRODUCERS IN THE WORLD, I HAVE CLIMBED THE LADDER MY OWN WAY IN MY OWN TERMS, I HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED BY OTHERS AS I HAVE INFLUENCED MANY OF YOU IN DIFFERENT WAYS, I HOPE THAT SO FAR IN THE LAST 20 YEARS I HAVE NOT DISAPPOINTED ANY OF YOU IN ANY WAY... I HAVE REAL LOVE FOR THIS THING WE CALL HOUSE MUSIC SINCE I FIRST HEARD IT WITH MY OWN EARS, I HAVE EXPERIENCED SO MANY GREAT TIMES WITH FRIENDS AND NEW FRIENDS I HAVE MADE ON THE ROAD, I HAVE PLAYED WITH SOME OF THE BEST AND NOW JOINED THE PRESTIGE CLUB OF MEMBERS THAT LIVE THIS LIFE. ANYWAY LATELY IS FEELS LIKE THERE IS NOT ENOUGH SUPPORT OUT IN THE WORLD FOR SOME OF US WHO HAVE LAYED THE GROUNDS FOR OTHERS AND ARE STILL CARRYING THE TORCH TO KEEP HOUSE MUSIC ALIVE! I FEEL A LACK OF RESPECT & APPRECIATION FOR THE PIONEERS THAT WORK EXTRA HARD TO PLEASE THE HOUSE MUSIC WORLD. SOME OF YOU MAY EVEN ASK WHAT IS HOUSE MUSIC? CAUSE YOU HAVE NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO DJS LIKE DERRICK CARTER , MARK FARINA, DJ HEATHER OR EVEN DJ SNEAK. WELL I'M HERE TO EXPLAIN IN THE MOST HONEST OF WAYS WHAT HOUSE MUSIC MEANS TO ME BY SHARING SOME OF THE EXPERIENCES I'VE PERSONALLY HAD SO MAYBE YOU ALL CAN APPRECIATE MY WORDS A LITTLE MORE WHEN I SPEAK ABOUT HOUSE MUSIC. I SUPPOSE I CAN START AT THE BEGINNING OF MY DAYS WITH HOUSE BUT I WILL NOT GO SO FAR BACK, I'M GOING TO START WHEN I FIRST WAS TAKEN TO AN UNDERGROUND PARTY IN CHICAGO AND I FIRST HEARD THESE DJS THAT NOW SOME OF THEM HAVE DONE VERY WELL OR FADED CAUSE THE LACK OF SUPPORT FROM NIGHTCLUBS, PROMOTERS AND THE NIGHTLIFE. AT THIS PARTICULAR PARTY THERE WERE LIKE 8 DJS THAT NIGHT, ALL IN A KITCHEN OF A LOFT ON MILWAUKEE AVE IN CHICAGO, I GOT THERE IN TIME TO LISTEN AND SEE WITH MY OWN EYES THE BEST THE UNDERGROUND WAS SERVING UP IN 1992, I HEARD DJ FRIQUE, DJ TRAXX, LEGO,DJ DIZ, SPENCER KINCY, AND THE MAESTRO DERRICK CARTER THE ONE (NEO) AMOUNG OTHERS TOO. THIS GROUP OF FELLAS GAVE THEIR ALL THAT NIGHT CAUSE THE FEELING WAS RIGHT AND THE MUSIC, THE ART, THE SOUNDS AND THE CROWD WERE ALL IN UNISON. NO SECURITY FOOLS UP IN YOUR GRILL, NO FANCY DRESSING WITH FAKE BLING, NOT A LOT OF SHIT THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THESE DAYS TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. THE PEOPLE IN THIS LOFT ALL CAME TO SEE AND HEAR GOOD HOUSE MUSIC WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT SURPRISES THEY WERE GOING TO GET WHEN THESE DJS KILLED THE TURNTABLES , ON THE KITCHEN COUNTER NEXT TO THE STOVE. DJS PLAYED TAPES FROM TAPE DECKS WITH HOMEMADE PITCH CONTROLS TO PLAY THEIR EDITS OF TRACK THE LOVED... I REALLY MISS THESE DAYS WHEN PEOPLE WERE MORE INTO THE MUSIC THAN DRUGS OR THE REST OF WHAT HAS BECOME OF HOUSE MUSIC IN CLUBS THESE DAYS. SOMETIMES I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THAT FUN WE ALL USED TO HAVE GOING OUT AND HAVING A GOOD TIME WITH NO WORRIES ABOUT ANYTHING (BUT THE COPS) IF THE SHOWED UP. A LOT HAS CHANGED SINCE THEM DAYS OF INNOCENT GATHERINGS OF HOUSE PEOPLE WANTING TO JUST DANCE AND LAUGH AND ENJOY THIER FRIENDS AND MAKE NEW ONES BECAUSE WE ALL HAD ONE THING IN COMMON " HOUSE MUSIC LOVE" I WONDER IF WE CAN RESTART THE WAYS BACK TO NORMALITY THESE DAYS, IF WE THE OLDER CROWD CAN SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE WITH THE NEW COMERS THAT THINK THAT ELECTRO IS HOUSE MUSIC, THAT TECHNO IS HOUSE MUSIC, THAT COMMERCIAL BULLSHIT THAT GETS FILTERED BY THE REMAINING RECORD LABELS IN HOUSE MUSIC... WELL HERE IS WHAT HOUSE MUSIC MEANS TO ME AND ALOT OF OTHERS, HOUSE MUSIC IS SOUL MUSIC, IS VOCALS OVER A ELECTRONIC TR 909 OR 808 DRUM BEAT, HOUSE IS FUNKY BASSLINES, HOUSE MUSIC IS FILTERED GROOVES THAT MAKE YOU SHAKE YOUR ASSES, HOUSE IS THE RUMBLE OF THE 909 KIK DRUM IN YOUR FACE WITH SNARES THAT CUT THRU LIKE SOMEONE IS IN THE ROOM PLAYING THEM LIVE, HOUSE MUSIC IS ALL THE ELEMENTS OF MUSIC AND LIFE IN ONE , JAZZ, FUNK, LATIN, STREET SOUNDS, BEATBOXIN', CHANTING, SCREAMING, LAUGHTER, ALL THEM FEELING YOU GET WHEN YOU DANCE TO A 4 ON THE FLOOR RHYTHM THAT REPRESENTS A TRUE HOUSE TRACK... I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU ALL BUT I MISS THESE TRACKS MADE WITH LOVE NOT FACTORY SOUNDS, WITH CARE NOT CAUSE IT WAS GOING TO THE MADE UP DJ CHARTS, I WANT THE GOOD BEATS WITH A FAT BASSLINE OR 2 A SELECTION OF SOUNDS FROM THE STREETS AND A DAJAE VOCAL OR SOME ONE LIKE HER (REAL HOUSE DIVA) THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO HEAR AGAIN, THIS IS WHAT IS NEEDED TO TURN THIS SHITTY SPELL THAT THIS LEFT OVER INDUSTRY IS SUFFERING FROM. I CAN'T STAND BAD MUSIC AND THAT IS WHAT'S RUNNING THE SHOW THESE DAYS, FAKE MADE UP MARKETED IDIOTS THAT HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OR LOVE OR APPRECIATION FOR WHAT THEY ARE GETTING PAYED FOR TO DO. I'M TALKING ABOUT EUROPEAN DJS IN PARTICULAR THAT HAVE NO BUSINESS DJING, THAT RATHER LOOK GOOD AND PLAY THE FRIKKIN' ROLE LIKE THEY ARE THE BEST IN THIS THING WE ARE ALL INVOLVED. I'M MOSTLY SPEAKING OF TRANCE, PROG AND ELECTRO FAKES OUT THERE... ALSO TALKING ABOUT THE FAKE AS WANNA BE PROMOTERS THAT WANT TO JUST BRING THAT EURO SOUND THAT HAS NO SOUL TO OUR CITIES LIKE THEY ARE GODS. TALKNG ABOUT NIGHT CLUBS THAT DONT' GIVE SHIT ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT COME SPEND MONEY IN ADMISSION AND BOOZE, THEY RATHER BRING OUTSIDE TALENT THAN SUPPORT THIER LOCAL HOUSE SOLDIERS... WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REAL PEOPLE OUT THERE? IS THERE ANYBODY LEFT? WHERE IS TRUE LOVE FOR IT? WHERE IS THE RESPECT? WAKE UP OR EDUCATE YOURSELVES IN WHAT IT IS... WHAT IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT, HOUSE MUSIC. MUCH LOVE TO ALL THE TRUE HOUSE HEADS STILL DOING IT EVEN IF IS THE SMALLER ROOMS THESE DAYS. I'M PLEADING YOU ALL THAT LOVE HOUSE MUSIC STAND UP TO PEOPLE ASK TO HAVE YOU FAVORITE DJS COME BACK TO YOUR TOWNS, PUSH TO CHANGE THE WAY THINGS ARE TODAY, MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS INDUSTRY BECAUSE IF WE DON'T FIGHT BACK IT WILL BE HISTORY... KEEP HOUSE MUSIC ALIVE!!!!! A TRU HOUSE HEAD DJ SNEAK KEEP HOUSE MUSIC ALIVE!!!!!!!
sounds like he's railing against the benny bennassi tiesto types. and given that this rant was posted in 2009, i'm not even inclined to consider the 'prog' he's talking about as the same prog defined, generally, on this forum. prog is pretty much TRANCE-lite.

Re: Dj sneak calls swedish house mafia "dj actors"

There are always mainstream bands, djs, etc that 'the underground' hates because they are popular and sell a bunch of music and make a ton of money that garner resentment. See Bieber, Gaga, Peas, etc. Honestly who cares...just don't listen to that shit and listen to what you like. As long as the mainstream likes that shit and your stuff stays 'underground', you are still hip. And that's cool rite?

Re: Dj sneak calls swedish house mafia "dj actors"
Sound like he's having trouble getting bookings
he's far from having trouble getting gigs though ( actually he plays here next month )

the thing thats wrong here ( in this whole thread ) is that sneak is old school, the stuff he plays is new but old sounding and the kids today who are fresh on the scene just aint listening to that sort of stuff yet, i'd go as far to say that sasha and digweed are in the same category but these guys stay true to older values because they were brought up with the older way of doing thing so imo he has a point when talking about shm ( spit spit spit ) these guys just play cd's and although it may not be our/ur taste ( which is understandable ) they are hardly showing kids today what being a true dj is all about but at the same time they are bringing kids into the scene which is keeping the whole thing going..... people keep forgetting that people age over time
