I didn't want Steve's love for Diggers to go unspoken.
I kinda think that when Steve would see John spin, to him it was kinda like that kid and how elated he was to see John spin at his party on the film Groove.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.
How about we make some music for him? I'm sure there are enough people on here with enough nous, creativity and equipment between them to put together some sounds until between us we've got something - we can use the board to discuss/vote as it goes along and also to swap sounds...then release it in his memory... just an idea??????
i like it. i would be in.

he was asking for a vocal snipped out of a movie once on the production forum. i have the sample but had trouble extracting the vocal... would be a good start imo.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

It would be good If we could send an email to Chris Fortier as well. It's good to share what an inspiration some of these guys are.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

all i can say is woah. Even though im a long way away, (New zealand) and i didnt know him, it breaks my heart to think that someone was so sick of it all that they would leave us all behind...

Gone but not forgotten my man, rest in peace, up there, at that big club in the sky...

I could probably sort that out if someone wants to write something up

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

It'd be nice if diggers actually featured one of Steve's mixes - the quality of Steve's sets puts most of the guest mixes to shame.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.
Just thinking of ways to help his family. Possibly a memorial fund. Does anyone know how to do something like that? The burden of funeral costs and various expenses can be a tough burden on his family given that this was unexpected. Any suggestions would help.
After much thought, I found that opening up an account/fund could result in legal issues. I talked with my bank and he said that I would be the trustee and that all expenses that would be paid for using the account, I would have to get receipts for to prove that is what the money is being used for.

With all due respect, I feel that it would put a burden on Steve's family members to have to get receipts to me for this process..Morally and ethically, I don't want to burden anyone, especially members of his family with such requests.

The best idea that I can come up with, is maybe find out which charitable organization that the James' have in mind and donate directly to it.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

i think any of us would be a good bet... for some reason i can almost guarantee you that digweed knows who steve is. don't know why. i think steve was too much of a freak about digs for him NOT to know. lol.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

Of course he knows who Steve is.
well it's official. we can stop the assault....
Dear Steve

Thank you so much for you continuous emails I just thought I would let you know that I don`t lie. When I said I did not record the set I was telling the truth The post on April 1st was a April fools joke.

I am gutted that I did not record the Vagabond set but on the other hand I am happy as I was a great night for me and lots of people in the room who like yourself will have fantastic memories.

Now stop bugging me

John
Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

then ya didn't know him at all sir.... it was impossible and I'll say it again.... IMPOSSIBLE to get upset, irritated or even mildly teed off at him.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

a pain in the arse in the fun sense.

not in the shosh sense!!!

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

My blackberry went off late last night....Here is Diggers reply:

Hi David

Thanks for you email

Really sorry to hear about Steve, it`s always sad when something like this happens. Steve was always front and centre at my Miami shows and a regular email pest trying to get me to broadcast it for weeks and months afterwards. A true fan and a proper music lover.

My thoughts are with his friends and family

Regards

John

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

^a bit weak!

dunno what i expected, but thought diggers would have done/said more for a fan like jibby!

#1118677Post 74 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

^^Agreed....Oh well, at least he took some time to reply. I guess that's all that matters...

#1118678Post 75 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I reckon he will mention it on the show

#1118679Post 76 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

so did anyone sent digs some sets of Jibs?

it would be so good if Jibs gets the guest hour in one of digs shows!

#1118683Post 77 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

^^^with a quick and dirty response like that to dave...i am not so sure we are going to convince him to do that....i think we need somebody with some major pull to make that happen..

but like someone said at least he took the time to respond. its not like diggers is busy or anything.

#1118690Post 78 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I even attached the pic of Steve giving the MS sticker to John, in that letter....He never even mentioned it....No offense John, but WTF is it with artists these days?? I've complimented many different artist on this or that lately, and most of the time don't even get a reply, and the rest of the time, they give you a half assed reply.... I've sent a few of my own mixes to a few artists and not one has even said, thanks, or this mix is a pile of shit, or anything...Not that my mixes are anything special... Sorry to rant, but I just feel like no one really gives a shit anymore...I feel like telling every single one of them that I have said hi to, or complimented, to fuck right off.....Sorry to rant, just annoyed..

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

If everyone who cares emails John right now to ask him to play Steve James' last session on radio as a sign of respect for his fans, I'm sure he would be more inclined...
