John,

I just wanted to let you know that the Mercuryserver.com forum, a site dedicated to the sites and sounds of the dance music scene, and also the site where your weekly Transitions mixes are aired, has suffered a great loss over the weekend. Steve James, better known as "Jibgolly" to most, took his life over the weekend. Steve was the one who handed you that little Mercuryserver sticker at WMC as you played on the Space Terrace a couple of years ago. Steve helped put together MCAST, which was a streaming audio showcase of talent from around the globe that had also joined hands with Proton Radio. He was also the host of his own show Mercury Rising which was featured on MCAST. The forum is taking this really hard, and I just wanted to let you know the impact that you, yourself, has had on his life. If you ever get a chance to read his personal biography on the MCAST site, he mentions how you are the reason that he loved dance music so much.

I'm sure you get a lot of emails requesting this or that, but the purpose of this email is just to let you know that Mercuryserver.com is grieving right now and as a personal friend of Steve, I wanted to let you know how much you meant to him.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

Dave

I hope so too...I'm trying to adjust my email setting so that I will be able to receive his reply...I changed my recipient email address on the Bedrock Forum, so hopefully if he replies, I can get it.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

If someone else could forward that to Johns email, that would be greatly appreciated. Just one person though. We don't need all of us sending it to him. My email settings are fucked and I don't think I can receive his email reply...

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I had already planned to send Diggz an email but I was also going to request him to personally say it on the radio show "Steve James - thank you for being a fan, you will not be forgotten"

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

Great letter! I really hope John gets a chance to read and acknowledge it. Kamal, I really hope that he says something on the radio show too, but that's definitely a lot less likely than him just sending us an e-mail back, IMO. But it would be awesome if he did!

Thank you so much for doing this....I know this would mean the world to him

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I guarantee he will read the e-mail - he reads every one.

Plus he may well give a shout out on the show - he did for me way back in 2000 when I asked him at Bedrock when RITM would be appearing at Heaven

The least I could do. :( I want him to be remembered.

Just thinking of ways to help his family. Possibly a memorial fund. Does anyone know how to do something like that? The burden of funeral costs and various expenses can be a tough burden on his family given that this was unexpected. Any suggestions would help.

yeah same here - i feel rotten that this has happened without ever truly knowing the man or meeting him. I got a pm from him on saturday and the next i hear is this. So so sad. I'm sure Steve's family knew how much music meant to him but do they know how much Steve and his music meant to the people in this community ? I think they should - somehow......

so long big fella - you made a lot of people smile along the way and you won't be forgotten..:(

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

First off very heartfelt and a beautiful letter Dave. The music is what brings most of us to this site I believe. And for me music is a such a huge part of my life, a heartbeat if you will and when I receive opinions, suggestions, mixes and am taught about something I love so much it touches my very deeply. It sounds corny but it does make me feel like I know the people on here. I searched every nook and cranny of MS before I posted a thing and followed many memebers tastes and suggestions. What I received from that was comfort and joy from awesome music that has made the stresses and discomforts of life easier. Jib was one of those people who's lead i followed. He didn't know it or me but he made my life more enjoyable. as did the rest of you on here. For that I'm grateful to you and to Jib. I lost my best friend this year about 5 months ago and nobody could tell me how to mourn or grieve, it's our own process and journey. This man helped save my life from the grips of addiction and I honor him everyday and it's really beautiful to see evryone doing the same for Steve. God Bless Steve, his family and friends, and the community of MS.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

How about we make some music for him? I'm sure there are enough people on here with enough nous, creativity and equipment between them to put together some sounds until between us we've got something - we can use the board to discuss/vote as it goes along and also to swap sounds...then release it in his memory... just an idea??????
