Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I really don't know what you guys expected, to me this seems adequate enough... :/

The guy is more busy than most could handle (I know I couldn't) and probably gets a hundred e-mails a day.

I'm sure he knew Steve and I think that e-mail was respectful enough, wouldn't be too surprised about a shout out on his show either.

agreed. that john responded at all is great. what would amaze you is how many artists, 1) would have never read the email in the first place, and 2) actually responded if they did. john is a class guy, and that response was both fitting and sufficient. he knew exactly who steve was, and called him a true fan. steve would have been damn proud of that...

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

^Ditto! He's shown his respect for Steve and the MS community by responding. Thanks Diggers!

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

Yeah guys, sometimes we need to remember that Diggers isn´t known to just a couple of hundred people, he´s been in the Top 10 DJ´s for years and years, he must get a shitload of e-mails every day. If it´s true that he reads all of them (and there´s no reason to believe otherwise), then just imagine how much time that must take him.

The fact that he answered personally, in such a short time, the fact that he mentioned Jib´s presence in every Miami show and his acknowledgement of him being a true fan not only shows the kind of guy John is, but must´ve made Steve real happy.

It´s totally understandable that maybe we expected a bit more, and it´s difficult to get clarity when it´s someone close to everyone on [ms], but I think it was very nice of Digweed to write this.

well said! puts it into perspective the whole world is sending emails to him. it would be another job in itself to find time to even read them all. he responded pretty quick really

yea i agree.

i think that e-mail is enough and very well done by diggers.

i am not expecting him to shout out for Steve on his show... if he does, i would be very surprised.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

Diggers is a man of few words, even on the Bedrock board - it was nice that he remembers Steve ... a shout out on his show would be a nice gesture.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

from what I understand, these shows are produced, edited and mastered well in advance from 2-3 months and many corporate owned radio stations - broadcast and/or internet may have restricted policy on what could be considered controversial. Corporate management and regulation of mega media companies seem to lean toward the highly conservative as neutral ground as possible. Don't get me wrong, it would be great if Digweed did actually mention Steve's name and something about his neverending dedication to the music in some sort of way or fashion and even better if an actual mix gets aired but I wouldn't get your hopes up. And I'm sure he gets hundreds of emails on a daily basis so at least he did respond to the email with some decent and kind words.

Its been a couple months since I've had contact with Chris Fortier and his agent who might have a direct line to Digweed. As well as with Jimmy van M. I will make an attempt at both avenues and see if they respond to emails. Back in the day, I was pretty close to the pre-Balance Record Pool/Eros Euphony/Orlando Progressive crowd, its been awhile but I will do my darndest to see if I can rattle the cage a bit.

Chloe did you have any luck?

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

Guys, simmer down and leave Digweed alone.

The guy is not an [ms] regular. He wasn't a friend of Steve or any of us on here. Hell, he didn't really even know Steve beyond a few brief interactions. What do you expect from him? He is a professional DJ who is extremely busy, traveling to just about every country around the world and interacting with millions of fans. Be glad you got the response you did - which was nice of him to do, by the way.

Besides, nothing that Digweed says/doesn't say changes the real legacy that Steve left behind for those that knew him.

#1118991Post 97 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I guess i'm one of the few who didn't agree with the response. it's one thing to be a professional and one to be human. we weren't asking for the moon, just 4 seconds of radio time to honor our friend and a true fan. everything jibby ever stood for and did musically was because of diggerz. while that maybe lost in translation for some, the fact of the matter is we lost a good human and that deserves more than a consolation note especially when you see this fan everytime you spin at a location. i dont know i guess i'm just emotional about the issue.

edit - do we have any guarantees it was really from him. the response was just from the source email address thats delegated to receiving fan mail.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

in regards to playing his mix, i do not see it to be appropriate.

if other people out there saw this, that were in a similar fragile mental state as our friend steve was, one could see it as a "go out with a bang mentality". you cannot reward that kind of action. sets a bad precedence imo.

i know it is real extreme, but if i were a higher up at kiss 100, i would not allow it.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

^^ that being said, it would be awesome to hear.... id love it, but i do not see it happening :(

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I just got an email from Chris Fortier and he's forwarding the various links of the Mercury server threads about Steve directly to Digweed. I hope this helps and maybe Diggers will consider this. I haven't heard from Dave Cannalte (one of Florida's godfather and pioneer of progressive house) or Jimmy van M yet.

Here is an edited version of the email I got. I took out the personal stuff between me and him for privacy concerns for both of us.

from MySpace -

hi oliver

thanks for the email, good to hear from you again.

[edited personal private text]

i will forward this to john, no problem. someone else contacted me through my agency about steve james this week too with another thread concerning me.

keep in touch,

chris

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I personally think that Miroslav is right. I think that it was a fine email from John. Let's cut the guy some slack ffs.

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

No one is complaining that bad. At least I don't think so..

#1119081Post 104 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

i agree with Miroslav and the like. Digweed is an incredibly busy man and has a lot on his plate.

while it would mean alot TO US if he would say something on his show, i really doubt he will and dont think of it as weak if he doesnt.

the fact that digweed wrote back and remembered Steve is a lot and enough in my book.

#1119086Post 105 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I never expected, nor do I still expect Diggers to say anything on the show.

#1119087Post 106 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

ddr, i wrote him an email to him the other day to that effect. I said that it would mean a lot to us (some of his most loya fans) for him to spend 5 secs dedicating the show to jibs at the end. If he doesn't do it he doesnt do it. no big deal, not gonna help jibs is it

Thanks John

absolutely right even if it wasnt man himself they replied quickly, that shows something!

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

If it wasn't him he has amazing staff! It sounded very personal !

I emailed him once a couple of years ago, someone posted using his name, so I thought I would ask him if it was him  Got a reply " It's not me " A man of few words indeed.

#1119224Post 110 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

if it wasn't him, that is incredibly gay. having said that, i am assuming it was him because john DOES care about his fans. i think he sent a very heart felt response. if mr fortier can do anything to help steve's cause, AMEN .

#1119226Post 111 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

Well the whole point for this is to let them know a dedicated passionate fan of the scene and music has passed away, and it's nice that Digweed and whoever informed knows that Jib was a big fan of all of them and acknowledge his passing.

But it's not like Digweed or Fortier or anyone owes it to us or Jib to make anything out of it and I feel it is somewhat inappropriate for us to lobby or do anything else if Digweed doesn't want to do a shout out or play the mix on Kiss. It's ultimately Digger's decision and he will have his reasons, same way he can't broadcast that Vagabond set no matter how many emails Jib bombarded him with simply because it wasn't recorded.

They know about it, and they know Jib was a crazy nutter about the music and stalks Digweed, and that's what counts.

#1119250Post 112 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

No probs. Johns a busy man so its great he replied.

#1119285Post 113 of 159

Re: My letter to Diggers for Jib.

I am of the view that the DJ/artist should never downplay or take for granted the importance of their fans.

If you take [ms] as an example, the community maintains the DJ's profile and feeds our enthusiasm for their music. That in turn generates CD sales and numbers through the doors when they play a club - the fans keeps them employed and able to continue to do the thing that they love (i.e. their involvement in music).

We helped put them where they are (sometimes, as in the case of JD, talent plays a big part too), plus we've supported them regardless of trends and (in many cases) gone to a tremendous degree of effort travelling to shows etc. and spreading our enthusiasm to others, keeping their music and profile alive. This in turn helps them continue to do the thing they love doing and enjoying the rewards.

I thought John's message was very nice - short and respectful, and in its own way personal. He's a man of few words, but I'm sure Jib would have loved it.

I still think a shout out would be the proper thing to do, as Steve was a DJ too in his own right. Very talented, put perhaps not blessed with the good fortune that others take for granted.

Recognition would also show respect for the legion of fans, communities and hard working DJ's that keep the music/scene alive/vibrant with their passion for proper EDM, and by giving something back it would also be a fitting tribute.

Sorry to bang on.
