Re: PS3 questions
Tom, It came out, then lots of people reported their PS3s no longer working, no video on the screen or their hard drives died so Sony is checking into it and doing repairs at no charge for customers that have to send in their units. Talk about a snafu. Mine works so far...
Hard drives dying because of a Firmware upgrade? Good I never saw it then. So is the ingame XMB a part of it?

#1043563Post 122 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

I read the posts and I question whether these drives did die but the people are saying that they connect the drive to their PC and can't get any readings off of them. Yes, there are trophies and in-game XMB. Some cool features but I haven't been on the box much. Plus, it's a holiday weekend so I won't be home much at all.

Re: PS3 questions

where can i buy a PS3 in Los Angeles, my sister is going, so i would like to tell her where she can buy it.....i want it with the metal gear game the bundle one with 80gb and how much do you think it cost on there?...

coz on here the one with 40gb and only the playstation without the dual shock 3 is around 550 usd, or maybe 600....

#1050410Post 125 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

^^ Mugroso... good luck finding that bundle in the stores in the LA area as most shops, if not all, have sold out of them. I did see one listed for the Wal*Mart in Norwalk last week but you can still find some online. I did find the Gun Metal Silver Japanese version for $650 online but again, this is a 40GB model. They're replacing the 40GB model with an 80GB HDD for $399 to come out later this year. I think I saw that someone posted it up above.

Re: PS3 questions

the new 80gb doesn't play PS2 games you have to be aware of that

and FFXIII just got announced for 360... so epic lulz, it will only be a matter of time before MGS4 gets a remix in a subsistance game and then ported to 360.

#1050871Post 128 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

The new 80GB PS3 DOES play PS2 games but the future 80GB release will most likely not have BC in it.

I did see about FFXIII but oh well. The first ones were the best. :p They've already stated that the Xbox360 has hardware limitations that would not be able to support MGS4 so they would have to downtune it quite a bit in order for it to come out on that system. I think it's going the way of "exclusive but eventually on others" as this is happening with several titles for both respective consoles.
The new 80GB PS3 DOES play PS2 games but the future 80GB release will most likely not have BC in it.
that is not entirely correct, there is no "new 80gb model" it was released months ago however the NEW future 80gb will be the one with the price cut and will not be BC compatible with ps2
I did see about FFXIII but oh well. Try again. They haven't confirmed that the new PS3 (as of Wednesday) is not BC compatible but when they state will have the same functionality of the 40GB model, we can all assume what that means. Try reading again. Thanks.

#1050953Post 133 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

I'm not doubting that. I'm still trying to figure out how June 12 was months ago and would not be considered new.

Re: PS3 questions

there are rumors of a 160gb version coming out soon also.

#1068707Post 135 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

There's been confirmation from the head over at SCEA. I was emailed the article and the explanation of why they are going bigger. As if everyone didn't know why. Hahahaha.

Re: PS3 questions

She didn't get one in LA? I saw a shitload of them in stores.

#1068873Post 138 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

So I finally popped for a PS3 over the weekend (the new 80gb version for $399) and I'm quite enjoying it. Luckily I never had a PS2 so I don't have to worry about BC there. The functionality sold me and I freaking love Blu-ray here on my 42 inch plasma home theater system, but I've downloaded a couple of demos (Madden and Quake Wars) and I'm freaking blown away.

One of my friends recommended I pick up Warhawk, so I did only to discover it was multiplayer only. Doh! I'll have to actually find time to play that one because I'm sure it'll be time consuming.

Judging from the thread here, it looks like GTA4 and GT5 are games I should be looking at getting next, but what other games should I check out?

#1068901Post 139 of 208

$399 @ circuit city

#1069017Post 142 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

Fry's, Circuit City, Kmart, Walmart, Sears, SonyStyle all have the 80GB model for $399. The 160GB model will be $499 and comes out in November. The 18th I believe. You can find the 80GB (without BC) just about anywhere right now and the 80GB MGS4 package is still available in stores and online too.

As for games... Battlefield: Bad Company, Uncharted, GT5: Prologue are some to get you started. There are a shitload of games coming out before the year is over too.

#1069045Post 143 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

ho i see, ok here is another question, i see the ps3 is $400, alone, and the game metal gear is about $60 so is more cheaper, is it the same? or the packed contains something else besides the game?.... coz maybe with that $40 bucks i can buy another controler or Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection (PS2)....dont know i have this chance to get it, and i dont want a FAIL image like those on GYY

Re: PS3 questions

Do they still sell ones with Backwards Compatibility?

#1069544Post 145 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

i guess yes!

#1069557Post 146 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

Here are your options.

 1. MGS4 Package which contains an 80GB PS3 with BC for PS2 games. List price is $499 and comes with one DS3 controller and obviously the MGS4 game. Also includes a voucher to download the game Pain for free.
 2. 40GB PS3 with no BC for PS2 games. List price is $399 and they are scarce. This has a Sixaxis controller.
 3. 80GB PS3 with no BC for PS2 games. List price is $399. I believe this comes with a DS3 controller as well.

These are your current options available now and there is a 160GB PS3 with no BC for PS2 scheduled to release on November 18.

MJ, BC IS important if you never had a ps2.....you need to play the classics first man...ie...Metal Gear Solid series, God of War series, ICO, Shadow of Collosus...lots of epic games came out for ps2 that will look better on your ps3 thanks to the upscaling function on ps3...so, id say head out to your nearest used game store...and just pack on the classics for a while to catch up....ull enjoy your ps3 even more. ;) And yah definitely need GT5 and dont forget the wheel...gotta do justice to the game.

edit/// i hope you got the BC one....
that 160gb sounds good btw, but do i need that much space?
you probably do need that much space in the long run due to game data, DLC, games bought from PSN, videos and movies rental or bought from PSN if you fancy
want wheel do you recommend?
if you can afford...the G25 all the way for a real deal wheel... But it might be a little pricy...So if that is a problem, go with the Driving Force Pro, which is not bad at all. Brings back arcade memories home. I have the Driving Force Pro one, lovin it. So funny, when I first got it, it literally threw me out of my seat, cause the force feedback was too high. You can easily adjust it to fit your preference.

As for the space, I would say yes if you're like me and get a lot of online content. The downstairs PS3 now sports a 250GB HDD and I put a 320GB drive in the upstairs PS3.

Re: PS3 questions

Just go buy another. I saw eight MGS4 PS3s tonight.

#1074727Post 156 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

I could bitch all the time seeing how they now sell an 80 GB PS3 with a Dual Shock 3 Gamepad for the same prize I bought the 40 GB version without the Dual Pad not even half a year ago.

#1074801Post 157 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

yeah i was wondering that too, not sure if i should wait to the 160gb version, or just buy it rite now that i have the chance.... gonna buy the ps3 without bs for 400 metal gear for 60 fight night for around 30 so in total 490

buying a tv with 1080hp or that shete that i dont know what is it, and maybe the cable if isnt that expensive...

#1074804Post 158 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

why don't you wait for MGS4 substance for 360 (which will most likely be released around 2009 thanks to MGS4 low sales) and spend 250 on it? seriously ps3 sucks balls. Fable 2 is around the corner, Gears of War 2 won't be avaliable for the PC (confirmed by ign.com) .. extra 15 hour GTA IV DLC out in novemeber, fallout 3 with exclusive DLC on 360...better online service

i forgot, Valve support for 360 version of their games...(TEAM FORTRESS 2) the new Valve game exclusive on 360 (on consoles) farcry 2 with better visuals (better AA) on 360 (confirmed by gamespot and ign)...so.. why buy a PS3 seriously? are you in a need of a blu-ray player?

#1074820Post 159 of 208

Re: PS3 questions

i liked better the playstation, never had a xbox..... also is that bluray thing im a movie fan, so thats why.... also wanna play final fantasy when it comes out....that game isnt sopuse to be release on xbox, and low sales on mgs4?....dont think so, it was the one that bring playstation 3 to the top....im not saying that its in first place but im sure mgs4 sold lot more consoles of ps3 than any other game...on ps3 of course....

and also because i have the money....

Re: PS3 questions

I've yet to have any hardware issues with my PS3s and I've known way too many people that have had hardware issues with their POS Xbox360s. Seriously, poorly put together.
