Re: 2009 Formula One

Looking forward to seeing Sebastian Vettel winning another few races this season. And then Alonso taking the championship again.

I just wish Hakkinen was still in F1. He was my fav.

More a Moto GP man myself. I Hamilton got an MBE this week, they just seem to hand them out to anyone who wins anything in sport these days.

what's an MBE? Masters in Business Enterprise? I truly don't know.

First race should be interesting.

Re: 2009 Formula One

With one week to go, its good to see that Billionaire Bernie has backtracked on the points/wins scoring system - all we have left to think about is whether certain teams will complain about the diffuser systems being used by three teams.

Assuming all teams will race in Melbourne, in my humble opinion there is only one car to watch.

Re: 2009 Formula One

Can't wait for Thursday night to watch the qualifying rounds on Speed. And then Sunday early morning for the race. I hope Alonso wins the fucker again this year.

And you won't see that same Ferrari car. Cause the F1 governing board doesn't allow smoking adverts on the cars. And haven't for a number of years. The reason why they have it on that design is because the ciggy company actually OWNS the car from Ferrari, and they rent out the space on it for adverts. Ferrari just owns the team and the engine.

Re: 2009 Formula One

You won't see that Ferrari at all Jeff, there's no rear spoiler.

I think for such a big organisations FIA and FOTA should really have got their arses in gear (excuse the pun) before the season started. This whole points versus wins business makes them look like amateurs.

I really can't wait for Saturdays qualifying and the race on Sunday. I'm quite intrigued to see how the new aerodynamics and slick tyres are going to affect overtaking. Anything that helps drivers get past other drivers is only a good things if you ask me.

What baffles me though is these drivers already have 800+bhp under their foot, now with the new KERS system they can call on an extra 80 bhp for 6.7 seconds of each lap  Kinetic energy created by braking that is stored in a small lithium battery which is then transferred to the rear axle via an electric motor. What ever next.

Re: 2009 Formula One

I think these changes, as a whole, are good for F1 BUT it also seems like it is more geared towards the big teams rather than the smaller teams.

Looks like we will see even more lapping this season. I would love it if teams like Red Bull or Antori Rosso (sp?) had chances at winning a season but it all comes down to money and capital.

#1188882Post 18 of 113

Re: 2009 Formula One

actually if look REALLY close the spoiler is buried in the read of the car. kinda like the lambs and the konig's.

#1189153Post 19 of 113

Re: 2009 Formula One

That's the defuser, but I'm not picking hairs.

This season is one no one wants to call, what with all the changes to the car and some drivers who have never driven on slick tyres it's just too difficult to tell. Mclaren say they are well off the pace in testing, yeah right, the mind games have started already. :)

Kubica or Vettel (for an outside bet).

Can't wait for the start

Re: 2009 Formula One

i'm going with my man Alonso.

Thanks for the correction bro. I thought they were doing a radically different wing design this year.

#1189286Post 22 of 113

Re: 2009 Formula One

I am going for Kubica as well. I have always been behind the BMW team :)

Other than Kubica, maybe Massa.

I'm rooting for Jenson ... it's about time he had a decent car so that he can show his true talent.

Hamilton for the 1-2 championship. will wait to see how the new designs handle tho

Re: 2009 Formula One

Anyone ever know what happened when Juan Montoya left F1 to go to Nascar. I remember it seemed he won the championship one year, didn't do as good next year for McLaren after leaving BMW, and then was gone. I always wondered why.

Other than Alonso, i think Massa will be in the top three placers this year...again.

Re: 2009 Formula One

They where saying last night on the news that the Maclaren hasn't performed well in the tests. Apparently Hamilton let it slip that he would leave the team if the car wasn't up to scratch. I'm guessing hes a bit worried, but its a bit early to talk about leaving.

Finally some sense!

There's no doubt for anyone who has been watching, that Button is by far one of the most talented drivers out there - lets hope this year the Brawn car is solid enough for Jense,

I personally am among the many people that believe that the real reason behind Hamilton's win in his first year was because of that awesome car. You can't win races in a shitty car, just look at Button's last two years in F1.

Mclaren were good last year cos they stole plans from Ferrari, remember the whole Ron Dennis spygate thing last year. (or the year before).

Last year was Hamilton's First year in F1.

Re: 2009 Formula One

It's remarkable that a team that was on the brink of folding in the closed season now find themselves on pole for the first race of the season. With the backing of Richard Branson's Virgin empire and Ross Brawn in charge of the team things look very rosy at the moment.

It seem Mclaren's pre qualifying talk of no pace was not mind games after all.

#1190459Post 40 of 113

Re: 2009 Formula One

There is no doubt that Brawn have a fantastic car - even with that 'new' diffuser, the arguments of which are now moot IMHO considering that Red Bull are third on the grid minus said similar diffuser.

The challenge for Brawn now is to ensure that the R&D on the car continues for the whole season, especially as all the others are now working flat out no doubt to increase their performances.

Certainly looking forward to the race tomorrow - and it would be grand if Jense can turn the poll into a win!
