Anybody watching the race this year? During the past few days the caravan passed through the Alps and like always that meant fireworks. T-Mobile lost 1/3 of their riders in the race and Valverde, Mayo, Soler yesterday, but especially Rasmussen displayed some great climbing skills.

Rasmussen is riding 3 days in the yellow jersey AND the climber jersey , but my guess is that he will lose the yellow again during the folliwing days. The Dane is great at climbing, but he sucks at time trials.

Tom Boonen is riding in green at the moment and I guess that will stay throughout the entire race. At least I hope ;)

It sure became a lot more interesting since Lance Armstrong retired...

And oh btw: here you can follow the tour in real time through gps tracking (plus additional data like heart rate, cadence, speed, power of the racing cyclists).

Re: Tour de France 2007

The interactive map you mean? Yeah, found it yesterday and tested it today during the race.

Great job from Vasseur today: last Tour he rides and he wins an etappe.

No changes as far as the jerseys are concerned.

Re: Tour de France 2007

The best period to go there is between December and March/April.

Back on topic: Patrik Sinkewitz (T-Mobile) tested positive on high testosterone levels a month ago. ARD and ZDF (the German national TV stations) instantly pulled the plug on the Tour: no more live coverage. ARD and ZDF already announced before the Tour they would do this if there was another doping scandal. Good call imo.

LMAO @ T-Mobile for proclaming in every newspaper that they worked to be the cleanest team in the sport. YEAH RIGHT, fucking losers...

Re: Tour de France 2007

colombian Soler got penalized yesterday for drinking water on the last 11 km. The sanction : 20 seconds and $167 USDollars

Re: Tour de France 2007

Robert Hunter was lucky that Tom Boonen was slow down by a few idiots falling off their bike 1km before the finish. Either way, nothing changes with the jerseys.

Speaking of which: Rasmussen (currently in yellow) has been tossed out of the Danish national team because he missed a few doping tests. Rasmussen won't be there at the WC nor at the Olympics.

not good news, makes you questioning whether his etappe winnings from last year (remember his solo ride for over 200km) were real.

Yup, cycling is becoming more and more like bodybuilding... sport on dope... sad...

Re: Tour de France 2007

The only cool thing about the Tour De France was that an american went across the pond for all those years in a row and and beat the snot out of the french at their silly little bicycle race. Now that that's over, i'm struggling to find any interest.
Yup, cycling is becoming more and more like bodybuilding... sport on dope... sad...
It's been like this for decades though. It's just been brought to more attention. Being in the cycling circles for years, you see and hear a lot of what's going on. It wasn't a secret. And LeMonde > Armstrong. Ahh to the good ol' days of Cycling.

Cyclists are dopers. Greg was a cyclist. Greg was a doper.

"silly little bicycle race"? Dude, the Tour is the most legendary cycling race in history. Go watch some fat fucks throw and hit a ball with a wooden stick... Baseball, isn't that how it's called? :p

Re: Tour de France 2007

quit your fuzzing ... both those sports are for dopers

#894098Post 21 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

Over 5 million people in Germany were following the tour de France each year...big thing here and I laughed when I heard they stop their live reports because it was soooo obvious they will find doped athlets again. Even Zabel did an interview recently where he cried like a little baby and confessed to be guilty of doping.

Cycling is fun but watching others cycling isn't fun for me..I guess I need a ball beaten or shot involved in a game so I can enjoy it.

the only appeal for me was watching the french whine about lance kicking their ass.

this thread reminds me tho i need to pick up a bike tire today.

Cycling is an excellent sport. I miss having the time for it. Anyone want to buy my frame and fork so I can get a new setup?

#895263Post 24 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

^^^ nope thanks, I'm currently repairing my own MTB ;)

Latstest news: Vinokourov tested positive on doping after his time trial on Saturday. As a result the entire Astana team is pulling out of the Tour. Vino was one of the favorites to win the tour this year. They should castrate the asswipe.

Pathetic shit...

#895324Post 25 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

we should start letting all these freaks just use as much dope as they can, see how freakish we can make these records.

"Man completes Tour De France in 2 days, then dies, NEW WORLD RECORD!"

#895328Post 26 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

Yeah, that would be more spectacular than Vinokourov is growing tits and his testicles are shrinking after winning 2 etappes in the Tour :D

Re: Tour de France 2007

Taken from the BBC website
It seems that Kazakhstan is in denial, after the cyclist Alexandre Vinokourov was forced to withdraw from the Tour de France for failing a blood test. There has been no word in the Kazakh media that Mr Vinokourov has tested positive for blood doping. Neither is there any mention of the fact that his team, Astana, has withdrawn from the race. However many Kazakhs have heard the news from foreign media. They say they are in shock and cannot believe it. One of the cyclist's former trainers told the BBC he is heartbroken that his student will not achieve his dream of winning the Tour de France. He also said he was worried that this blow would undermine the future of cycling in Kazakhstan.
Lemme guess... Sportive learnings of doping for make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan?

Another rider has been found positive for doping use (high testosterone levels after the 11th etappe). The UCI will reveal his name later on tonight. One thing's for sure: it's not Rasmussen.

-edit- The news is out: Cristian Moreni from the Cofidis team S? s?, sono imbroglione! :p http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other_sports/cycling/6915683.stm

LMAO @ all teams btw: AG2R, Agritubel, Bouygues Telecom, Cofidis, Cr?dit Agricole, Fran?aise des Jeux, Gerolsteiner and T-Mobile announced that they would do a sit-in strike at the start today to protest against the doping use in the Tour. But T-Mobile gave the finger to the others and started anyways. Cheeky fuckers

-edit- LMAO even harder @ Cofidis for protesting against doping while Moreni gets nicked a few hours after

That said, Rasmussen was the first to arrive on the Col d'Aubisque today after the 16th etappe. Pretty interesting duel between Rasmussen and Contador in the last 9km.

#895643Post 29 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

it?s a joke by now, and this new contador is on dope as well. compared to the best young driver last year, Voeckler, he is just too strong. but i?m not wasting my time watching that anyway.. Rasmussen, it?s a shame.

the question for me is who forces the drivers to take the drugs because no one can be that silly to expect that by getting an etappe winning will not lead to further drug testings.

#895645Post 30 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

It comes from two sides. Riders are paid bonuses for wins etc, so if you notice that other guys are using doping and performing better than you are, either you jump the bandwagon or you get paid less/can't build a carreer. Second side: team managers. As previous cases have showed most of the times the team managers are well aware of the cheating and even encourage it in order to boost their teams.

News flash: the management of the Tour is thinking of founding their own league outside the UCI. That way they can forbid "questionable" riders to start since the pro tour system of the UCI doesn't work at all.

I hope this will be a turning point. Cycling is a great sport and the Tour is a monument. Seeing both being fucked up by a bunch of tossers is just plain sad...

#895649Post 31 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

i don?t know, the riders may have a hard decision to make, but at the end they are all human individuals with brains. it?s a fucking mirror of society where the career is worth more than credibility. but probably at this stage everything is already too emotionless.

#895655Post 32 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

Well, don't exagerate it: doping has been around for decades now. Remember Tommy Simpson who died on the Mont Ventoux in 1967? That was doping related...

#895762Post 33 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

and it doesnt stop ... Rasmussen out for lying about where he did his training . he said he was in Mexico when in fact he was in Italy. Lying about his location permited him to skip 2 doping tests

#895786Post 34 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

Yeah, he's been tossed out the Tour AND the Rabobank team. The other riders of Rabobank appeared at the start today though (there were rumours that the team would drop out of the Tour too)

#895920Post 37 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

I'm thinking of founding an MS team to ride the Tour next year. Who's joining me? No experience required: with the number of teams dropping out because of doping we'll win the race with our eyes closed

#895951Post 38 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

if we can dope also, then count me in! too bad jib quit doping...

3000 posts!

#896530Post 39 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

So the Tour is over: Contador won, Boonen won the green jersey. Let's hyope the 95th Tour next year will be all about the sport and zero about doping scandals. I've just about had it with that crap...

#896747Post 40 of 45

Re: Tour de France 2007

well, from what i?m hearing in the news, the doping scandal around contador is becoming more and more obvious.
