LMAO Have you seen the commercial on ESPN that shows a guy about to start mowing his lawn and he gets a flat tire and there is a bowling ball next to the mower and then it says "Sundays are for bowling"?

Re: sports you just can't get into

interesting side fact :

the PBA (bowling assoc) was bought out by 2 former Microsoft programmers who retired at the ripe age of 30, they ripped apart the rule book and encouraged "personalities" for the bowlers, and got sponsors on. they are now making cash hand over fist.

Re: sports you just can't get into

I don't like watching sports.... I like playing them.

I hate baseball, soccer, basketball and football. Baseball, Soccer and Football are too slow. And Basketball I was never any good at, so I just don't care about it.

Football is the most spectator friendly of all those sports, but I still don't like it. I don't even watch the Super Bowl.

I play lacrosse, ice hockey, and golf.... but snow skiing is my favorite thing in the world.

Re: sports you just can't get into

Heard a quote somewhere..."It isn't a sport unless there's defense"...

...separating sports like football, baseball, basketball, hockey, etc., from athletic activities, like track, nascar, figure skating, golf, etc. Sports require a form of interpersonal competition, something more than solely braving the elements(or extremely subjective scoring methods)...

A classic movie, "BaseKetBall," might have introduced to people the purest form of competition known to man.

I could never see how people got excited for curling...:?:

I hate it, and I can't believe I'm actually defending any component of NASCAR, but there is definitely defense in auto racing. They box each other out, tap each other, etc. It still blows, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't put it in the same category as figure skating or gold where it really is just you out there. Anything that you can have just as much fun by yourself as you can with competitors probably shouldn't be considered a sport.

I do love playing golf, though...
i love how ppl outside of the americas and asia say baseball is slow, yet, like soccer. soccer is beyond slow. passing is not action, im sorry. nothing happens in soccer outside of a rare goal. i mean, comon, one person guarding a net 30 feet wide by 9 feet high..... there should be a ton more goals.
You're probably watching Seria A or even Spanish football... Bundesliga isn't too bad, but at the end of the day nothing is more entertaining than Premier League. So if you watch that and you can't say it's slow or not enough goals :)

Re: sports you just can't get into

beisball and basketball,

but I think those two sports don't have any passion at all it's just a game where people pays a high price ticket and stares on their asses watching all this repetitive stuff.. it has no passion really I've seen images from espn and fox sports of fans literally yawning at the finals... and i'm not kidding.. seriously "yawning"

I actually like the NFL :)

Re: sports you just can't get into

Baseball is NOT a sport. It's an activity.

Soccer is a sport, but it's hard to watch because there is not enough scoring. Posession also switches sides too often.

Basketball is a sport, but it's hard to watch because there is too much scoring.

Football is a sport, but I have a hard time watching it because of the breaks in the action. However, it is the breaks in the action which make football such a great spectator sport. You can watch the 5 second play, and then have 30 seconds to talk to friends, laugh, run to the kitchen, etc... and not miss the next play.

Golf.... I am torn on this one. I am an avid golfer, and low-handicap player. So I enjoy watching golf, both in-person and on TV. But I completely understand how people who don't play don't like it. I also can understand how people might not classify it as a sport. But.... let me tell you this.... Tiger Woods is one serious athlete.

Hockey. Defintly a sport. I love to play it.... hate to watch it. I don't really understand why. I think it's similar to soccer... not enough scoring, and too many posession changes.

Lacrosse. This is my favorite team sport. It's the perfect combination of fast-paced action and scoring. There's enough goals to keep you interested, but not so many that goals lose their excitement. Posession changes often, but not too much like soccer or hockey. There's lots of settled offense/defense situations, where the teams take care of the ball. Offense is a lot like basketball, except with 6 on 6 and you can go behind the goal. It is a very rough sport, too.

Re: sports you just can't get into

while saying golf is?

in baseball, you at least compete against other people directly with hitting, pitching and feilding. golf, you play against an architect. and the physical part amounts to swinging a club against a stationary ball.

Re: sports you just can't get into

apollo, what is the version of soccer being played in some latin american nations where its played indoors with walls and a smaller feild of play? THATS NUTS. i saw it in brazil 2 years ago, and i actually loved it. so much faster than normal shitty soccer, and they were passing it off the walls to each other.

its called "futbol de salon" and it gets played indoors in a basketball like court, theres others called "futbol 7 wich has no walls its a small court with 7 players and theres, "futbol rapido" which is also played indoors and there is walls but i guess you are thinking about the first one.

i don't know how to translate that to english, yeah its fun to play but not compared to the big thing.. well to each his own8) i think that most of the attractive of regular "soccer" is the fans and the folklore in a soccer stadium down here in latin american and europe the fans are crazy

#836709Post 64 of 76

Re: sports you just can't get into

"true soccer" is just too slow. there isnt enough action for me. i mean, for having a ball that has a 12 inch circumference, and a net 30 feet wide and 9-10 feet high?, there should be a ton more goals. there are crazy fans in every sport. philly had to actually put a jail and courtroom in the VET feild b/c there fans are terribly violent. every eagles game has at least one woman assualted by a man, and usually a dozen or so massive fights. and when it comes to yanks/ sox, no fan better be wearing the away team colors, cuz you might be beaten, or worse. shit i lit a kid's red sox jersey on fire while he was wearing it one game.

to each thier own is right.

Re: sports you just can't get into

baseball and NASCAR - 2 most boring sports ever. I used to love baseball then I fell out of it. I guess it's as much fun as watching 2 lesbian housewives with broomsticks hollering like apes while trying to navigate a donut down some ice :).

Cricket and golf I should as well are ridiculously retarded.

My fav to watch are Tennis, Soccer, Basketball, Football (including NCAA), Hockey, and F1. I probably like more that I can't think of atm.

Re: sports you just can't get into

The NHL doesn't do it for me...... For some reason I just can't get into it. I rather watch hockey at the high school level. The fights are entertaining but I rarely follow it besides the one year the Minnesota Wild got deep into the playoffs.

NCAA basketball is one I can't get into either besides the March Madness hoopla... There's way too many divisions and teams to follow and when the major schools in your area are complete crap (I can't even name a starter on the Gophers squad) you loose all interest until the Madness when everyone is waiting to see those highly anticipated upsets. NCAA football on the other hand is a lot of fun to watch because the rivalries are a lot stronger imo and college football just has that extra flair to it that most other college sports lack. Nothing beats the Rose Bowl when Texas beat USC. One of the greatest games played in any sport imo.

NASCAR... never cared for it.

Besides that I pretty much watch all the other major sports at the college and pro level. I love the MLB rivalries and think it'll be a great year. Hope to catch a few Twins games. NBA is fun to watch, I prefer the West over the East. Though imo the days of Malone and Stockton versus Jordan, Pippen and Rodman have yet to be matched in today's rivalries (Suns and Mavericks, Heat and Lakers, etc). The NFL is easily my favorite thing to watch.

I've been getting back into UFC/Pride as well, especially with the lack of blockbuster boxing matches. The heavyweight division in boxing is utter crap. The only thing I'm looking forward to in boxing is Oscar and Floyd next month.

Re: sports you just can't get into

I'll watch ANY sport from badmiton to bass fishing...it's why I can't have cable/dish TV, I'd have to go on unemployment due to sports spectator related injuries.

Re: sports you just can't get into

I agree with card playing not being a sport. But the money some of them make is sweet.

Can't stand Nascar and I live very close to Richmond International Raceway. Don't bother going near any of the roads close to it for hours with the immense traffic. Even worse than Nascar is Modified Riding Lawn Mower racing.
