what sports just don't do anything for you?

me its basketball and baseball. I don't mind football, but I prefer CFL to NFL (let the jokes begin) where everyone isn't quite so 'roided-up.

basketball...don't know what it is...maybe the high scores, maybe its the slow play (relative to hockey, i suppose). No matter how many times I watch it, I just can't get into it. I even went to a game recently in Houston...I was more interested in the cheerleaders than what was happening on the court.

no offense to people who like the sport...just venting i guess.

baseball...it definitely has to do with the number of games in a season...i mean i just don't care if they win or not, when there is 161 other games they're gonna have to play. that, and a slow game is about the most boring thing i've ever seen. i'd rather watch, golf...no joke.

so what doesn't do it for you?

I don't even consider it a sport but NASCAR. I don't mind watching Dakkar ralley and the likes but nascar sux. Oh yeah curling is another,WTF. I can't get into Tennis either.

Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks.

Re: sports you just can't get into

nascar- im sorry, but you dont even need a driver, you could shim a pipe on the wheel and a brick on the pedal and there would not be any difference.

normal soccer- 90 minute games need more excitement than 3 goals. that game in latin america where the court is enclosed and smaller, is actually exciting, but soccer as we know it blows. i have never seen so many fall down for a sport that has no real contact. someone help me as to the name of that game latin america plays that is like soccer, but on crack.

hockey on TV- live, i love it, but its a game that is too hard to cover on TV, you cant get a flow of the game. but live, god its so exciting, non stop, action..

personally, i used to hate basketball until a few years ago. it was ruined after jordan when everyone wanted to be jordan, but didnt realize what jordan did for his teammates. he was unselfish, all these posers are the opposiste. but recently, disregarding the spurs, heat and some other teams, because they play simply boring basketball, BBall has been good. the suns are simply too exciting to ignore, the pace they play, and how they play... amazing. the sonics are great to watch, jazz and magic this year as well.

baseball.... not a better game on this planet. i love it for the same reason you hate it. the season. you get the ups and downs, you get to see players get hot and go off. emotion, patience, excitement, skill, thought...following the guys like utley, manny and jeter with the hit streaks, watching crappy/decent teams make runs at the playoffs like florida and philly did this year, the powerhouses like NYY, BRSox, Aneheim angels, cards, houston... i.e. the guys you expect to be there. how a hot team can beat anyone. the best.

Re: sports you just can't get into

I was the same way about basketball Sean. I watched the NBA a lot when Jordan was playing. When he retired, i probably have not watched more than 5 games total. Used to love NCAA basketball too when i was @ Mizzou. Since graduating some, jesus, 10 years ago, i have lost a love for college basketball too.

Nascar- give me a break rednecks. I don't know what i hate more, the "sport" or the fans. It's toiletbowl racing..round and round the bowl the turd goes. No thanks.

I used to hate soccer, and still don't ever watch it. However...during this last world cup i was watching two teams, dunno who they were, but they had mullets if that helps....oh wait, they all have mullets. nm. Anyway, friend came over burned a joint with me and left, and i sat there engrossed in the soccer game. Watching the whole team move at once instead of just following the ball. I dunno, it was probably just the weed, but i loved that game, and since then, i've got a new appreciation for soccer.

Hockey- same as sean, i'll watch paint dry before i watch it on TV, but live, it's pretty damn exciting.

AMEN. "How a hot team can beat anyone..." aka Cards 2006. Tony was talking about that after the WS on some local AM radio shows. He said he kept telling his team, "We make it into october, and we're a dangerous club to play."

Baseball is more than 162 games to me. Every day i check up on what teams are doing in the off season around the league. Ugh, can't wait until pitchers and catchers report. About two months away. 8)

A-fucking-MEN. all you have to say about baseball is chase utley. i tuned in every single day to watch his streak. that and the kid on florida's perfect game. things liek that, when ESPN drops out of coverage to go across the country to show you something remarkable. you get 3-5 games a day with just basic cable. it gives so much.

Re: sports you just can't get into

first and foremost - baseball. bores the hell out of me...

college sports - just cant seem to get into college sports at all, although many people tell me they are better than the big leagues much of the time.

basketball - used to watch a bit... but never had a huge interest and since the blazers are so terrible now i havent watched for a long time.

golf - boring to watch, never tried playing it.
Oh yeah curling is another,WTF. I can't get into Tennis either.
hahaha curling rocks (punn intended). its a totally canadian/scandinavian/scottish thing though...i can totally understand why countries that don't have it think its the stupidest thing ever invented. the great thing about that sport is how anyone can be good at it, you don't need to be in shape at all! you look at the guys who go to the highest level, and half of them have beer guts! can't beat that with a stick...

tennis, i love. granted it used to be better when sampras and aggasi were at their peaks. watching those two play for a grand slam was about as good as it gets. nowadays federer is the king, and i just find him a bit to unemotional. guy needs to crack a smile once and awhile...

Pro basketball is incredibly dull, partially b/c everyone at that level is just so damn good (or maybe because no one plays any defense). It's like a non-stop highlight reel, which makes the whole thing just blur together and nothing is exciting. Someone gets an open look at a 3, and you know they're going to drain it. Someone starts moving towards the hoop, you know there's a dunk coming. Yawn.

College ball is a totally different ball of wax, though. I don't watch it with the fervor I have in years past, but that is a sport. Much more strategy involved in college than in the pros, and the highlights definitely feel like highlights.

outside of the suns and mavs, the NBA is at an all time low for points, and is played entirely too much on the defensive side now, possessions are down too. i love the fast paced, offensive games, the defensive teams are too fucking boring. and it shows with teh TV ratings. for being multiple champs, the spurs are the single worst team i have ever seen play. ill take the offense and run and gun like it was when larry legend and magic were running the floor. this shit that started with the NY knicks, continued with the heat, and now the spurs and pistons, eh... its a shit product and everyone is walking away from the game.

Well, I've watched so little NBA basketball in the past few years, I'm hardly in a position to argue. High scoring, low scoring, whatever. I just don't get into it.

Re: sports you just can't get into

give the suns or sonics a shot, even the jazz as well. they might just change your mind, they are changing the way the game is played, they prevent the slow down bullshit. they wont allow themselves to get trapped into the half court game and breakdowns. they take the opinion of "if tim duncan wants the ball in the post, let him have it, let him get 2, get the ball and go get a three." one on one is a thing of the past here.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm gonna pass. Perhaps if St. Louis gets a team, I might start to give a rip, but the last thing I need to do is to start adopting teams I can't even go see live. I've got college ball, which is vastly superior anyway. The NCAA Tournament and the NBA Championship aren't even on the same page.

thats the smartest sports comment from you since you said edmunds was great.

is there anything better than that tourney?>

im thinking of heading to vegas for the sweet 16 weekend of it, and sitting at sports book.

#766876Post 17 of 76

Re: sports you just can't get into

I always consider Thursday and Friday that the tourney opens to be a wash -- all the attorneys at our office head out for lunch when the games start, and that's pretty much the day. Best time of the year for sports, hands down...

#766878Post 18 of 76

oh yeah. the tourney and the final week of baseball in a good year... nothing mroe exciting.

i usually have the tourney on my office TV at all times.

Re: sports you just can't get into

nba basketball aka chase the banana <-- how is throwing a ball at a circle a sport?

rugby <-- i dont understand this game at all. might think otherwise if i knew what was going on.

nascar <-- how exciting watching 50 cars drive in a circle for 5 hours OH FUCKING BOY!!!

golf <-- i know its a technical sport and all, but goddamn its quiet and boring.

im slowly starting to dislike the NFL. the over-officiating is ruining the game.
im slowly starting to dislike the NFL. the over-officiating is ruining the game.
For the first time in a loooong time, i've not watched one NFL game all year.

I've been in bars and places where games were on, but i really don't get into it anymore, it's just an excuse to hit the pub and drink beers. Most of the time i couldn't even tell you what teams are playing.

Quit watching sportscenter too. That came about from just generally being pissed off at ESPN's shitty sports reporting during baseball season. Boycotting ESPN, have been since the spring, and i actually don't miss it at all.

growing up my dad had one of those 8 foot dish's in the back yard. we got channels from other planets. i always browsed the sports channels in search of, well, sports. and i would attempt watching rugby from time to time but i never understood what the players were doing. they also show it in some local pubs. we have an irish pub called O'briens in the neighborhood that has all kinds of sports playing.

i love how ppl outside of the americas and asia say baseball is slow, yet, like soccer. soccer is beyond slow. passing is not action, im sorry. nothing happens in soccer outside of a rare goal. i mean, comon, one person guarding a net 30 feet wide by 9 feet high..... there should be a ton more goals.

Re: sports you just can't get into

april. but pay attention to ESPN in late Feb, early march and you will start to get information on how the team is shaping up and getting ready in the pre season. if you register for ESPN.com (dont pay), you can set your teams up and they will have boxscores on teh front page with links to all the info.

Re: sports you just can't get into

Consider this.....Auto Racing as a whole is the most dangerous sport in the world. Now I know there are people out there who say NASCAR is just for a bunch of rednecks, and I am for anyone having an opinion, but when you can be ignorant to the fact that it may look boring and easy to "drive in circles" or "for people who can't drive", remember this, Juan Montoya can't hack it in NASCAR....He's a Indy 500 Champ and has won IRL Championships!! I don't care if you perfer Michael Shumacher in F-1 or whatever, thats fine but youcan't disrespect NASCAR drivers. Not to mention that NASCAR is the Fastest Growing Sport in the WORLD!!! I tell you I would like to see one of Europes Best against one of America's best on 4 different types of tracks see who really is the best.
Oh...forgot the sports I hate; I would have to say: Soccer and Soccer and Soccer and oh and Pro Basketball (NBA)

I'm not a fan of Jeff Gordon but he can drive just about anything you put him in and be competetive along with Tony Stewart. Those two guys are GREAT racecar drivers. From Sprint cars to stock cars to Indy cars, they can drive them all with the best of them . I want to see one of those F1 stars run the Indy 500 and place in the top five then jump in a plane and fly to Charlotte and drive another 600 mile race in a stock car and place in the top 5 of that race also like Tony Stewart did a few years ago. I've been to many Nascar races including the Daytona 500 about 10-15 times and there is a reason why it is probably the most wanted trophy in an individual sport that you can find. To drive a 500 mile race on a track like Daytona and then have to drive a 500 mile race on a track like Bristol is night and day difference. You look at good road racers like Boris Said, he races to races a year in Nascar and does decent on the road courses but you put him on a super speedway and he can't even qualify for the field of 43 cars.

#772147Post 35 of 76

Re: sports you just can't get into

the only reason a vast majority of people watch NASCAR is for the crashes. god knows its not for the excitement of watching a group of cars make left-hand turns all day...

And i agree with Jeff, the only reason to watch Neckcar is to see if someone goes down in a firey crash. The more cars flipping into the stands the better imo.

YEA actually i have and how many drivers does each team have? Talk about boring as FUCK!!!

This rule appears obvious but the 1966 race saw a surprise winner, among the three Ford GT40s that were leading. Ford ordered the leading #1 car to slow down to let the #2 and the #5 cars catch up, in order to create a photo opportunity[1] with all three GT40s crossing the line 1, 2, 3, in a staged finish, only a few meters apart. Yet the #2 car that had covered the same number of laps (360) was pronounced the winner, as it had started further behind on the grid and thus covered a slightly bigger distance in the same time."

I think I'll pass
