Meh, I spoke my peace in this thread. No amount of bickering will change the outcome so post away if it makes you feel good, but don't expect to get much of a rise out of me.

I'll be rooting for the NL in the WS, everything else is yesterday's news.

when the cards lost to the stros last year, i had the same attitude...you suck it up, enjoy the year you had, and GO NL. respect kobe.

and look where it got you :Bingo: Like I said before, this is just the beginning for the young Mets. If anything this post season prove WE DO have promising young pitching talent so it's not all about Pedro.

FYI, the NL is the only league on earth that doesnt ahve a DH. all leagues in asia, south america, central america, and europe have it. collegiate too.;)

Re: baseball

Just like I thought, Tiger were ice cold tonight. When you play almost every day for over 6 months, there's no way a week off isn't going to take you off your stride, especially for a team that was riding so much momentum.

Re: baseball

What does everyone think about Kenny Rogers? There was clearly something on his had in the first inning and now they have pictures of the same substance on his hand during game 3 of the ALCS against Oakland. Regardless of what it was on his hand he still pitched innings 2 thru 8 with it removed and only allowed 1 hit. I hate to jump to conclusions but somebody that has one of the greatest pitching preformances throughout they playoffs, something like this needs to be done other than just telling him to remove it. The 1st inning last night was one thing but now the pictures of game 3 coming out with the same spot on his hand. Thats a bunch of BS imo.

^^^ Game 3 of ALCS is on the left and yesterday on the right

Re: baseball

its a catch 22. they all use it, and no one wanted to start opening this up b/c next year you would have tons of suspensions.. it was cold, the umps know whats going on so i assume they let it go until it they saw the cards saying something. larussa is not a guy who would start the controversy, as well as his friend is coaching in the other dugout...... on top of the fact that isnt any point is destroying the series.... i dunno.. it is supposed to be illegal b/c of gaylord perry's abuse of it, but alot understand its use...

the cards and umps, including the cheif of umpires who was consulted in the stands, didnt seem to have a problem.....

#733625Post 221 of 321

Re: baseball

i tell you one thing,, if the yanks or mets were playing and this was noticed.. the NY media would have kenny tied to a pike in times square.....

#733631Post 222 of 321

Re: baseball

hand sauce or not he pitched a great game. thought it was cool to see him so amped up pitch after pitch. the guy's a competitor and wants to win cant blame him for that.

Re: baseball
Regardless of what it was on his hand he still pitched innings 2 thru 8 with it removed and only allowed 1 hit.
That's why it will probably ultimately be much ado about nothing. If that was discovered after throwing 5 or 6 scoreless innings, it might be one thing, but we actually hit better off him in the first inning when he was doctoring the ball than we did after that. Bring back the pine tar, IMO. :D

No question that was not "a large clump of dirt" or whatever BS excuse was given, though,,,

#733640Post 224 of 321

Re: baseball

Yea I agree on no since of destroying the series because of it. I guess you are correct about everyone for the most part does use it and he is the only one to get caught. Don't you think that he could maybe hide it a little bit more? The thing that is confusing to me is that everyone has a different story. If you ask Rogers he was never asked to remove it. If you ask both La Russa and Leyland they said that the umps got together and asked him to remove whatever substance or dirt that was on his hand.
The thing that is confusing to me is that everyone has a different story.
Yeah, I don't get this, either. I can't think of any good reason for there to be differing variations on what happened -- clearly, someone has to be lying. Weird.

I guess pitchers like Rogers aren't so happy about the advent of HD TV, eh? I noticed it before they pointed it out in the first, because it stuck out like a sore thumb. Was it that obvious on normal sets?

people turn on mike and mad dog on YES network or www.wfan.com right now.

From where I was sitting on my couch and watching my 57" HD wide screen it was so noticable it looked as if he had his thumb up his ass all day..

Re: baseball

I haven't been following baseball all that much this past season... i was shocked to hear who was in the world series... although its good to see a team i would've never expected from the american league.

Re: baseball
wow, now that was a historical pitching performance... and i think toasty got to see it firsthand.
Unfortunately, I watched that one from my couch. I do have tickets to Game 5 (which will hopefully be the clincher), and had tickets to tonight's game (should it get played) but ended up unloading them. Regardless of whether it gets played today or tomorrow, it's going to be miserable out there weather-wise -- if we hadn't lost Game 2, I'd be going for sure, but that's a lot of money and unpleasantness for a game that won't be the clincher.

#734903Post 231 of 321

Re: baseball

you sold world series tickets?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

wtf were you thinking?

Re: baseball
you sold world series tickets?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I was thinking:

 1. It's going to be rainy and colder than a witch's tit out there,
 2. It can't be the final game, and,

perhaps most importantly

 1. I can pay for the all of my playoff tickets by selling this one game. :D

Re: baseball

you know that look from your parents that clearly states ''im not mad, just disappointed"?

i have that look right now.

#734934Post 234 of 321

Re: baseball

I think I'll pull through. ;) Seriously, though, I just spent the weekend at Mizzou watching a football game in the pouring rain. Wasn't eager to repeat that experience, esp. with people willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money for my seat and me still having tickets for Game 5.

Besides, St. Louis is such a baseball town, you don't have to be in the stadium to get the world series vibe. The whole city is glowing red right now. Know how when you watch a Cardinals game on TV, the entire stadium is red? That's what the whole city is like...

Re: baseball

i hear ya, NY is the same way. mets and yanks hats everywhere during the season. cars with shit on the windows, you cant walk into a bar and not hear a baseball debate.

Re: baseball

so.........does it look like we are gonna get a game tonight?

Re: baseball
i hear ya, NY is the same way. mets and yanks hats everywhere during the season. cars with shit on the windows, you cant walk into a bar and not hear a baseball debate.
Yeah, but the thing is, with all due respect to St. Louis, NYC has so much going on besides baseball, it doesn't permeate the culture the same way it does here. If you don't care for baseball, there is plenty to keep you entertained in NYC. Being in St. Louis during baseball season, however, is an immersive experience. Whether you like it or not, come baseball season, it's on.

And check this out -- I just went to grab a sandwich at the place across the street. Who should be in line a couple folks behind me but Chris Carpenter. He was wearing a shirt that said, "I pitched an absurd game in Game 3 of the World Series and all I got was this lousy t-shirt." OK, I made the last part up, but how cool is that?

#734970Post 238 of 321

Re: baseball

yo, NY is a baseball town. it takes over. its the biggest and best baseball market. its just in SL, there isnt anything else outside watching jenks try to beatmatch. thats what i think you are leaning to. shit we had almost 8 million people go to a game this year. yanks at 4 mil, mets above 3.4

Re: baseball

whats the weather looking like?

#734992Post 240 of 321

Re: baseball
whats the weather looking like?
shit.

right now, it's cold and kinda misty, but if the game were to start right at this moment, I suspect they'd play because it isn't really raining per se.

It is supposed to be raining harder as the evening progresses, though. Thing is, though, it is supposed to be coming from a band of weather from Oklahoma and Arkansas. I'm no meteorologist, but that band of weather seems to be moving due east rather than northeast towards st. louis, so maybe we'll get lucky and it will miss us. This, however, is just the ramblings of a guy that would like to see a game tonight, so it should be discounted almost entirely.

The weather folks here are not optimistic about the game being played, but I haven't heard an update on this point for a few hours. I know they want to get this game in, so if it can be done, I suspect they'll try to do it...
