what is everyone looking forward to in general.

me...

 1. the AL central races.
 2. the AL east. can tha yanks catch up with boston.
 3. the NL central-- will st loius hold the lead?
 4. the mets-- listen, theyare the best team in the NL, will they extend thier lead and set up for the postseason, and will they get a big #3 pitcher for a 7 game series?
 5. the yanks in particular, will their pitching come up, can the young guys keep it up? dotel is back next week, canoe the week after and in a month, we get the two big bats back.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

i'm looking at this:

 1. The White Sox continuing their dominance. I still think they're better than Detroit.

 2. Yanks not making the playoffs.

 3. The Cards winning the Central, easily, but that's about it with the way they're playing ball.

 4. The Mets probably winning the NL, but no chance of beating the White Sox or the Tigers.

If the Cards aren't in it come the end of october, and i hate the Mets and pretty much every team from NY, i will probably bail on the playoffs. I'm not going to watch the AL win again. So fucking sick of the UNamerican league.

If the Cards could put together some consistency, we've got a shot at the NL, but there's still no way we're beating Detroit or the White Sox, that's pretty much been proven, which takes be back to my original stance: probably bailing on watching the playoffs.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

Who am i kidding, i can't bail on the playoffs. Going to be getting really drunk tho if the NL can't put it together.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

if detroit pulls a trade out of thier ass (d-train) they instantly become fierce. even the w.sox should be afraid.

but who are we kidding. has anyone been following the red sox?> asz much as i hate everything from that fucking shithole state, they clearly can beat any team in a series. they are just too good. and i called it before the season, but mark loretta is the best off season trade/signing from any team. including thome. that guy is phenomenal. he doesnt hit homers, but that isnt his role. he just gets on base more than anyone outside of giambi, and plays a gold glove caliber second base. seriously, loretta is in the top group of players in runs, batting average, strikouts, has minimal errors, and he can run the bases pretty damn good. im just jealous though, cuz i wanted the yanks to sign him.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

I refuse to ever give the Red Sox or the Yanks credit, so unfortunately, i can't discuss that with you. :p

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

Well all i'm hoping for is for the Bluejays to make it to pennent race. I might have high hopes, but this is the best team they've had since the early 90's.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

There is ALWAYS a second half story. Look what the Stros did last year.

That said, the AL is so stacked this year. Toronto has a damn good team, but they're facing a serious uphill battle. Only one team out of the AL east is going to the playoffs unless Detroit or Whitey falls apart, which i don't see happening. Sucks for Toronto.

#669216Post 8 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

for me, last year's second half story was the utter collapse of cleveland. that was so weird how they were dominant, then suddenly, looked like tampa bay in 3 weeks and blew thier shot.

detroit is only 1-5 against the white sox this year... in fact i read something recently that said detroit isn't as good as a lot of people think they are. they beat the teams they should beat, but struggle with the good teams like the yanks, and both sox teams. i predict they collapse.

for the astros, i'm looking forward to seeing morgan ensberg replaced at third base by aubrey huff and i'm looking forward to seeing what the astros can get for willy taveras, since they are trying to cut a deal with someone for some bullpen relief. i still don't know whether trading taveras is a smart move or not... he's still young and barely missed rookie of the year last year. and i am SO happy they sent jason lane to the minors. he is barely hitting .200. i haven't counted them out yet this year simply because of the show they put on last year in the second half, but they really need to start hitting if they're getting anywhere.

for the braves, they can still piece it together and get the wild card. chipper is batting well now, most of the club is healthy and never underestimate bobby cox and his team.

for the AL east - toronto will win the division.;)

Even if the Tiger's go .500 the second half they end up with 96 wins... They're 30 games over .500 for God's sake... and beat the teams they're supposed to beat? They won 71 games last year and 72 before that with almost the exact same team... I consider what Jim Leyland has done amazing... No way they tank like the Indians last year. Win the division?... going to be tough but wild card is there's to lose for sure. The Braves are toast. An amazing run but no way they catch the Mets and no way they're better than the Astros, Reds or Milwaukee... Now if the Braves were in the NL West.... different story. The AL east is going to be fun to watch down the stretch for sure... Love to see the B-Jays take it...

#669330Post 12 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

don't get me wrong, i'd love to see the tigers overcome the white sox as vengence for me since the sox killed the astros last year in the WS. :) but if they don't learn to beat the better teams, they aren't getting past the first round of the playoffs.

#669334Post 13 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

The Tigers are about the only AL team i can half ass tolerate. 1. because it's Detroit, home of sick ass techno and violent crime (we share both in stl) 2. jim leyland.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

I'm happy to see all you share the same view as I do, as far as Toronto taking it. I've always stuck by them threw thick and thin.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.
2. Yanks not making the playoffs.
well what a difference a week makes eh??

lol. Boston looses 4 straight, and the Yanks are half a game back.

Still a moot point, the AL Central is taking it. :p
3. The Cards winning the Central, easily, but that's about it with the way they're playing ball.
..the way they're playing ball = won 7 straight.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

mark my words. st. louis, while they might make the playoffs, will not be in the world series. if anything, houston could pick up a few bats and be there. and they are the one NL team i dont wanna see with the big 3 there. any of the 3 can walk onto any team in the majors and be a number one.

#673570Post 17 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

in the end though, i will be happy if the yanks make it. i dont expect it with them missing 3 monsters in the lineup (hideki, gary and robinson). all guys who hit 330 and get rbi's. also the outfeilders would normally have 250-300 RBI's and probably 60-70 homeruns. combined
mark my words. st. louis, while they might make the playoffs, will not be in the world series.
i said nothing about the world series, just updating my list, why do you always have to rain on someone elses parade?

lmao, comon jenks, i offer a truce and lets cheer the best player in baseball, Albet Pujols, and the best organization in sports, the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals.

Fair enough. :p

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

It's just so obvious that Albert Pujols is easily the best player in baseball Jenks, and you're 100% spot on with your sports takes, as usual.

Right on Sean.

This truce is working out nicely. :p

#673643Post 23 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

Cards are starting to get their shit together again, finally. That was an ugly skid, though. Pujols appears to be getting back to form, too.

It'll be tough for us to really do much in the playoffs, though, without adding some talent in the next couple of weeks. I've heard rumors that they (along with a bunch of other folks) are looking at Abreau or Soriano. That would help, but I'm not convinced this is their year. Personally, I think we're going to be hindered as long as Izzy's our closer -- you can't get away with allowing that many baserunners when you're trying to close out a playoff game...

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

I can't stand izzy. I've hated that guy for years. It's like he doesn't start pitching until the bases are loaded.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

there's no way they're taking the division, but they could contend for a wild card the way they're playing.

#674247Post 30 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

i think the braves have much more of a shot than the astros do at post season, which is tough to admit. i think they are much better than the brewers too. not sure about cincinatti though... they are pretty good as long as kgj stays healthy. the reds might even give ol' jenksy's team something to worry about.

for the braves, i mentioned earlier about moving chipper to the outfield to make room for betemit... chipper is fielding really well right now, so scratch that. he's also knocking the cover off the ball lately. i still say they need to make room for betemit in their regular line-up though.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

HEY GUYS LISTEN>>>

that's me hitting my head on the wall realizing sidney ponson is pitching tomorrow for us..... FUCK YOU CARL PAVANO

but i tell you one thing. i give the guy respect. he is sitting right on yanks pre game taking the grilling, honestly answering all the alchoholic questions and giving really good answers. he is taking the giambi route. scores points with NY fans. just be honest. and show up.0

the reporter, after 2 or 3 softball questions, comes right out and asks ""are you an alchoholic??"

he says -- not in 4 months. but i was. and i needed help.

wow. now i hope this guy pitches good.

#674258Post 32 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

wow, ponson a yank? yanks taking the cards leftovers...lol

ponson didn't pitch that great for us the first half of this year. maybe he was fucking drunk tho.

the fans may have respect for him for being honest in that interview, but i know yanks fan, that respect will quickly go out the door once ponson starts serving up dingers.

4-4 with a 5.24 era...lost his last 4 decisions with the cards before we sent him and his bottle of jack packing. it was awful to watch, glad he's gone.

#674261Post 33 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

no crap. he is getting minimum pay and basically eating up a few innings for us. but i like seeing the human interest stories come through. (contreras) rather than watching barry bonds and sammy sosa hit home runs.

ESPECIALLY the contreras story about how cuban officials kept arresting his wife for prostitution when she left her home, they condemned her home, tried to take her kids, all because he defected. here in NY it was a big thing because he came out and said how he would cry at night while looking at the pictures of his family. then when steinbrenner essentially threw money at cuban officials to secure her release, the yanks management surprised him in his house. and then next day, with his wife and children in the Boss's box, he pitched a one hit shutout up to the 7th when he was taken out with a hand cramp. the stadium went absolutely APESHIT when he walked off. and they showed his wife and family on the jumbo tron and they gfot a standing ovation.

thats the shit ill be telling my kids about. not some scumbag who juiced up and hit homers.

#674262Post 34 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

the announcers and scouts all think he has great stuff... yanks need one more good pitcher.

#674263Post 35 of 171

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

BTW, tonight is the best night i have ever seen in baseball.

the two best hitters in the AL are facing off in the bronx.

chi sox are going head to head with detroit.

KC gave boston a fit last night.

ATL on a tear heading to you boys.

Re: 2nd half of baseball.

i hope you fall face first on the sidewalk on the way to work tomorrow Garrick. No lasting injuries, just a good old concrete smack to the forehead.

:p

re: white sox v. detroit...

White Sox lost 4 straight, heading to D Town...not good, but the Sox have had Detroit's numba this year. Good night for baseball, definitely catching up on baseball tonight later this evening.

Gotta go pick up some beer and some chicken. Wife is out of town, i'm going to grill an entire chicken, and sit on my couch like a big fucking slob and eat chicken, drink beer, and watch the cards.
