Re: Goodbye Zinedine
quality player but he might of atleast finished his career with a bit of class and stuck the head on that guys nose instead of his colar bone lol ;)
Aparently the guy HAS no class to do something as stupid and ignorant as that...and in the biggest game too! What a dumbass. I really don't care how good he is...when you lose it like that on the field, you just lost all respect in my book.

Also, as people only pick on Zidane and that he plays unfair..this is a video showing Materazzi in a Game against Juve....these are his fouls in ONE game only and to top it, he did not get a red card.

Re: Goodbye Zinedine

I wonder why everyone thinks it goes with the territory to insult other players. Imagine a colleague at work calling your mother a terrorist whore. If it were me, the guy would be eating, breathin and pissing through a tube for the next six months. The same tube that is.

It's called "gamesmanship," and it does happen in the business world, just in a more subtle way.

Re: Goodbye Zinedine

it doesnt matter what the guy said to you, you don't do something that monumentally stupid during a game of that importance. you think the french team gives a shit what the guy said to him? i really doubt it...

Re: Goodbye Zinedine

You're right about that. It could've changed the end score if he didn't get red. Ah well, now we know the Italians have a grand total of three strategies to win a game: camp in front of their goal (cattanacio), dive whenever a player of the other team comes in a radius of 2 meters (especially in the penalty area) and verbal agression. I think it was Kinetic who said it in the WC2006 thread: lamest world champion ever.

That aside, I think Zidane getting the Golden Ball was a good call. Everybody keeps yapping about the headshot, but almost forgets who the best player of the tournament was...

Zinedine "Fuck with the bull, you ride his horns" Zidane

Re: Goodbye Zinedine
I think it was Kinetic who said it in the WC2006 thread: lamest world champion ever.
It wasn´t me but I wish it had been me, because that´s my opinion too. And it was one of the lamest WC´s I can remember. I mean, even we played ugly, certainly a lot worse than in Euro 2004.

There were really few games that stood out in a sea of excessively tactical and fearful play. I mean, I don´t get it when I see some people say it was a great world cup.

I don´t mean to come off as a "oh, he thinks he knows better than anyone else" type of fan, but I´m a football nutter since age 5, so believe me, I´ve seen a LOT of footie games in my life. I watch every Premiership game I can, even if it´s fucking Birmingham vs WBA. Give me a Waregem vs Lokeren game and I´m there with a 6-pack and a bag of Doritos. I´m the kind of guy who´d rather have his son being gay than supporting my rival team.

This is why I think the World Cup sucked, and this why I still maintain what I said earlier about Zidane. All this stuff about people lip-reading what Materazzi said, and creating sites about Zidane´s headshot is just a fucking circus and it should not erase the fact that he´s the greatest player since Maradona, and that we owe him countless hours of delight. The same happened to Portuguese player Joao Pinto in the 2002 World Cup when he hit a referee, thus ruining our chances of going further in the competition. The fact is, he´s played his best season ever 2 years later, and he´ll forever be remembered as our "golden boy", no one brings up that stuopid moment in the light of the amazing things he´s done.

Football fans are fickle, but real fans can see past the circus and the smokescreens (and to me that applies to C. Ronaldo too...).

Re: Goodbye Zinedine

Waregem vs Lokeren? Now you're sucking up to me ;) I'm a Westerlo fan myself actually. Still one of the few "pure" clubs in Belgium (meaning that the majorirty of the A team consists of players from the area and not expensive hot shot foreigners). But back on topic...

Ah well, the smoke and the circus... The funny thing is that Zidane is in the center of attention and not the Italian team. Might be for the wrong reasons, but this is the way it should be. Imo, it's mostly the soccer illiterates who are blowing this up cuz they finally can talk about the game without making an ass out of themselves.

Waregem and Lokeren were the 1st two teams of the top of my head not being the obvious Anderlecht, Standard Liege and Club Brugge...basically, it meant I?ll watch anything (no offense to anyone ;) ), as long as it?s football.

I mean, I got drunk during the WC watching Tunisia vs. Saudi Arabia, for fuck?s sake!

Anyway, what I meant to say is that I?m starting to feel the same way as you...suddenly everyone wants to fit in and show they know about football. How stupid and ironic is it that this moment is probably the single most talked about football moment in Internet history? :what I?m sure some of the nerds who came up with those spoofs probably think Pel? is a comic book character. I mean, some of them turn Zidane into an RPG character, for cryin? out loud!

Frankly, it?s sad.

Re: Goodbye Zinedine

I think Zidane is the sexiest man on the field :LoveYou: and thats why I was following WC (you can't blame me - I'm a girl - and most girls I know watch football becouse of that - well most girls like Beckham - I think he's a pussy) but as little as I know about football I think Zidane is also the best player at the moment. And what he did to the italian fucker - not a smart move but understandable in a way!

so there - thats my comment ;)

Re: Goodbye Zinedine
well most girls like Beckham - I think he's a pussy
+100

Beckham is a top half of the scale player, but not half as good as the media circus presents it. Let's be honest: over 30% of the reasons people talk about Beckham is because of Posh and apart from that: if you're an high profiled international and still find time to play around with shit like a line of clothing, a book and what not, you're either a bigger natural talent than Pele or you don't have a clue about what you're doing in the first place (I'm not talking about doing commercials 'n' shit here).

Before the Beckham lovers bend me (over): yes, Zidane spends time on other projects as well. But on a different level. He's for instance very active in the ELA (European research foundation for leukemia) and the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme)

Oh btw, Zizou explained what happened during the match at a press conference today:

Zinedine Zidane has apologised for his headbutt on Italian defender Marco Materazzi in Sunday's World Cup final.

But the French legend does not regret his actions, alleging on television that Materazzi provoked him by insulting both his mother and sister. "It was inexcusable. I apologise," said the 34-year-old Zidane. "But I can't regret what I did because it would mean that he was right to say all that."

Full story: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/5169342.stm

At least he sticks to what he did instead of making up excuses like so many others would do in order to pollish their public image. Respect!

Re: Goodbye Zinedine

I saw his interview on Canal Plus the french channel , the guy is leaving with degnity , he excused himself like a man about the act itself, but that Giraffe Materazzi insulted him three times, he could have done it like a pussy when the cameras were away , and I am sure for Zidane to do that and 5 min from the end of the WC final and his career he must have been really hurt ,. so please give the give a guy a break and let him enjoy his life as a familly guy now .

Merci Zizou for all thos magical moments you gave us during your career, and it will be hard for someone to take yourplace again.

Pele , Maradona , Cantona and now Zizou.

Re: Goodbye Zinedine

Pele was fighiting to prove he was big , he was black and from a poor country and he faced alot of trouble and discimination during his career , he came out of it as a legend. Technincaly speaking, Maradonna is much better than pele and for me he is the biggest football legend , but Maradon ruined the end of his career.
