Re: World Cup 2006
LMAO, this is your 3rd or 4th attempt, right? :p If you think this bothers me in any way....it doesn't, honestly so keep on posting "Italy" till eternity if you like. In March 2006, our national coach and the team were questioned without end and nobody gave a shit about them and everybody thought they will be kicked out in the qualification round. A few months later after an intense 4 weeks long preparation, we played a tournament making not one bad game...all of the Games were entertaining and more than we could ever expect. We have a team together which can achieve something because they are young and have potential. I am thankful for the last four weeks because the impact on our lifes was bigger than what you can see on the telly. I will watch the Finals today with a bunch of german and 2 italian mates of mine, have a barbeque with them before the Game and just enjoy it while the sun is shining. If Italy does not win, I know that I will meet at least a very happy football maniac from France who works in my departmant tomorrow. The only sad feelings I have is that the Games are over now..for me they could have gone on forever. 8)
Re: World Cup 2006
I think it happened for the 1st time in our history that we are proud of the 3rd place..nobody regrets anything. It was just a great Championship and I hope for a good Final match today. I don't know how long international tv channels broadcasted what happened in the stadium after the Game was over but it was an amazing party and nobody wanted to leave. Today at 12 AM, our heros will arrive to celebrate in Berlin. :D We had the youngest team in the Cup (5 players in the team under 21 years), the best new talent (most votes for our player Podolski), the best scorer of the Cup will most probably be Miroslaw Klose (Henry needs to make 2 goals today to beat him) so the Future looks bright.
I agree with everything you say, except I don?t think it was such a great World Cup....but that?s another debate...
Over here we did see the huge party you had in the stadium, absolutely beautiful, I really don?t think Germany has anything to be ashamed of, it?s really good for world football to see the germans play with such skill along their usual physical type of play.
BTW, I think last night?s game 2nd half was amongst the most memorable moments of the tournament.
Sad news for us and real football fans, though. Figo has announced this will be his last game for the Portuguese national team.

Re: World Cup 2006
Yes, Obrigado Figo for sure. Did you recognize that people applauded when he entered the Game and nobody booed when he was on the ball? That guy is a legend and that he wasn't on top form in 2006 anymore won't change a thing about it. I also loved it that his last action was to give the pass to the 3:1. Seeing how great players like Figo, Zidane and also Oliver Kahn played their last tournanemt makes me re-considering cloning methods though. ;)

Yup I noticed people applauding, just goes to show that true football fans know how to recognize class and talent. It´s a bit emotional for me, because I´ve seen Figo play since he was 16 at my club (see sig), just a scrawny kid with stupid hair...
And what a great game for Kahn too, especially that save to Deco´s shot.
Re: World Cup 2006
After watching Portugal play, I've discovered a key training tool that the entire team has mastered:

Well done, ragazzi, even if you didn't actually play shit! Seems like it pays off to be cheats and divers
What a shitty final for a shitty World Cup, though...
As for Zidane, he shouldn't be crucified, a moment of insanity shouldn't wipe out the memory of am amazing player. But he was selfish, and may have hurt his team's chances...I mean, sure, it didn't mean shit to him to get a suspension, it was the final game of his career, but his team needed him then more than ever, and he basically "resigned" from the game. I guess Materazzi didn't exactly ask how was his momma's health
Should be interesting to see who's considered to be the best player of the WC too..let's see if FIFA maintains it's criteria of not awarding Ronaldo the best young player trophy based on "lack of fair-play", because if they don't and elect Zidane...well, hypocrites is the least you can call them.

as they say ... people aways remember the bad things, esp when it is your last moment.
he was one hell of a player.

Zinedine Zidane cut short his World Cup and closed his career with an ugly head butt -- and a loss! I'd love to hear the exhange of words that occured which lead up to Zidane loosing his cool. He would have made a big difference in the PK shootout had he stayed to play.

Re: World Cup 2006
It did not happen for the 1st time that he lost control and attacked another player. Whatever the Italian dude said, his headblock was not justified. Bitching and trying to get a reaction from other players starts when you play Football at the age of 8 years already and it never stops lol. A guy of his age shouldn't let verbal attacks go under his skin this way..shame imo. But in the end, his whole career is what counts and one headblock more does not change anything. He is still a legend...Goobye Zidane and congrats to Italy. 8)
Re: World Cup 2006
^ 98 world cup match against saudi arabia stepped on an opponent's back?
like ive said before skills and talent are good, but you need to show class and a player of his stature should have never been in any of these situations....
Re: World Cup 2006
Can we just stop bitching about that one single incident? Like if that's more important than the kick ass matches we've seen during this mundiale.
Big thumbs up to the Germans btw, they succeeded in organizing the WC like it always should be: one big party. During the past five weeks, the police had to carry out "only" 9.000 intervention for minor incidents while there were 14 million fans of all nationalities in the country.
Btw, am I the only one who has been wondering all day with what to do at night now the championship is over? Already getting a tremor here :|

Re: World Cup 2006
I actually developed a huge appreciation for soccer/futbol during this World Cup. I think what I realized is, I can appreciate competition at the highest level...no matter what it is. I watched the final at a kick-ass party at a friend's Mexican bar. Free Tecate and Modelo Especial, free pizza, chips, dip, 46" big screen with the game on....it was blast. Went to my friend's soccer game after that, then went to his house and played Winning Eleven for the rest of the night. That's the most soccer I've been exposed to in one day since I was a kid.
I'm not saying I can watch any soccer game on any day, but I'm definitely past my "SOCCER SUCKS!!!" days.
Oh yeah...

and thats the truth!!!
they havent fucking shut up about it here!!
they didnt play that great!!! they were an embaressment against the USA and Australia.
i definitly didnt want france or germany to win it. Portugal should have never been there, we just didnt out play then on the day (fucking England we're always the same).
So in a sense i am happy that they won it. they just lack grace about it!!! Anyway, i'm sure Moggi payed someone somewhere, exactly as Mussolini did back in the '34!!!!
