Re: BASEBALL is Back!
same shit for NY and the yanks.
if you're referring to "intelligent fans" and "hussle baseball" you can't be serious. I've been to yankee stadium, and the fans aren't intelligent. lol. In fact, i've never been to a ruder place to watch a game. Towards their own players, and towards the opposing team, the fans are lacking some class.

In STL, when the opposing team makes a killer play, we cheer good baseball, Yankee fans throw batteries. That's the difference.
however. you would be nuts to take rolen over AROD, rolen isnt even going to be considered for the hall, but AROD will walk in first ballot if he retires tomorrow.
Hall Schmall, who gives a fuck, that's not the measure of a gamer imo. Willie McGee won't make the hall either, but he was a BALLER! Rolen is a FAR better third baseman, and he's clutch at the plate (when he's healthy.) Check ARod's playoff hitting the past couple of years. Where is it? Oh that's right, he's a wiffer. Dan Marino, all the records in the book, no titles. Numbers are 1 measure, but they don't complete a player. Rolen is gritty, Arod is pretty. No doubt Rod's a hall of famer, i'm still taking Rolen at third.

Re: BASEBALL is Back!

 1. mets fans throw batteries. yanks dont play the braves unless they get lucky.
 2. NY baseball fans are rude, but yanks fans are intellignet. mets fans are too, but they overreact a lot.

Re: BASEBALL is Back!
however. you would be nuts to take rolen over AROD
i wasn't going to, but i have to... I'd take Rolen over A-Rod anytime. Rolen won't try and baby slap the ball out of someone's glove when he runs to first base. he'll accept he's out like a man. :p

Arod is such a nancyboy.

Rolen is a throwback player, you can't put a stat on that.

#603197Post 86 of 126

Re: BASEBALL is Back!

I was at a game last season, or maybe the season before, where Rolen threw a dude out at first from the warning track along the third base line. unreal. And the dude is such a gamer, it's not even funny. Keep A-Rod, I'd take Rolen any day of the week.

I'm not so sure he won't make the HOF, either. When he's healthy (which has unfortunately been an issue of late) he has great numbers and exemplifies what a baseball player is supposed to be about...

rolan is a leader, a -rod is a kid, that what i like about baseball compared to say basketball, pure talent doesnt automaticlly make you elite

Re: BASEBALL is Back!
and to all you retards who bitch about the payroll, ill say the same thing i said last year. show up to ur parks so ur team can afford to spend. blame me and the other 10 million yanks fans aorund the states and canada who go to the gammes, buy thier merchandise and support them. the boss has never paid a penny out of his pocket , we do. if the cards had 82 sellouts and averaged 55k a game they would have arod and puljos on the corners and even better pitching than they already do.
I'm not bitching, but let's be honest here. The Yanks don't have the payroll they do because they sell out every game. The Cards do sell out every single game as well, and getting tickets is a bitch if you don't already have them. The Yanks have a fat TV contract and the largest market in the country to whom to sell merchandise. That pays the bills.

he's been injured. gotta figure that into his stats. hopefully this year he'll get a full season in, and shut some critics (including me) that he can bring in healthy.

Re: BASEBALL is Back!

Hey, don't be hating on the Giants and Bonds. Juiced or not, he's still a good player. Before passing judgement on the Giants, check out Matt Cain.

Re: BASEBALL is Back!

goddamn yanks better win tonight.

you cardinal fans, i got a good one here.

WFAN here in NY had keith hernandez on. he said playing against the cards is nice becuase thier fans cheer you. but he didnt like you ppl cheering for the opponents. he said it shows a weakness you ppl have and how you lack an edge like we have here in NY for the yanks and mets. LMAO> you call us rude, we just demand you play hard.

the interview might be up on www.wfan.com under joe B later today to tomorrow if they decide to put it up.

OH YEAH.... what jenks said above. bullshit. bonds is a fucking waste and is only harming the game. you know that potatohead looking bastard is still using HGH. he should be told to get out of the game. fucking shame the union is a bunch of scumbags.

Re: BASEBALL is Back!

The same Keith Hernandez that got booted from the classiest organization in baseball because he was shoving cocaine up his face with daryl porter. Good source Sightless.

#603439Post 99 of 126

Re: BASEBALL is Back!

lol and proceeded to destroy the careers on the entire NY mets roster from 82-86. daryl strwberry, doc gooden, wally backman, lenny dykstra, hojo, and tim tuefel all have drug related offenses in ther pasts.

but i have a feeling he is right. you ppl like the game more than your team. which i cant argue with. i can enjoy a royals/devil rays game if they play well.

And for the record, Cards fans don't cheer other teams as in, "Way to go, please beat our team." If you make a great play at Busch Stadium, though, you're going to get cheered, regardless of who you're playing for, although it will be a somewhat begrudging cheer if you're not in a Cardinal uniform. If you reach a career milestone and you happen to be in Busch Stadium at the time, as Tony Gwynn did, you're going to get a heartfelt standing ovation, no matter who you're playing for. That's how we roll here.

Baseball is a competition and is therefore adversarial by its nature, but that doesn't mean it has to be antagonistic, too.

Yeah, Matt Cain looks better than Zito. How long did Zito last against the Yanks? You're lucky your A's have Harden.

And thesightless, you talk as if nobody else juices in baseball. I wouldn't bet my life the Yanks or any other team are clean. Let's not forget Giambi. Let's see how he does this year.

#603689Post 107 of 126

Re: BASEBALL is Back!

personally i give giambi a pass NOW, not before, he bit the bullet, came out with it, and let the media rip a new one, he fought back and plays a different game now. tends to hit more doubles than ever, has lost weight, and frankly he took it like a man, between bonds and sheffeild, i cant deal with the ""fuck you im not talking""

im watching the mets game on our TV just otuside my office and keith hernandez just went on a 5 minute tirade about how he would never do anything to affect his performance...
Yeah, Matt Cain looks better than Zito. How long did Zito last against the Yanks? You're lucky your A's have Harden.
dont if think about comparing zito to cain, it takes one special pitcher to start the home opener against THE best line up in baseball, and by the way how about we compare the giants 5th stater cain to the a's 5th starter, cain 6 innings 7 hits 4 runs,... not bad, joe blanton, 8 innigs 2 hits no runs... the a's arent lucky that we have harden, its that our farm system is just that legit

#606913Post 110 of 126

Re: BASEBALL is Back!

Cain was supposed to be the home opener pitcher until the game in SD got rained out. But you are right... can't compare Cain to Zito. Cain is still a rookie and has better stuff.

and with our bullpen before mariano, this means a home opener loss today. unless the 3-6 hitters realize that they dont need to try to hit a homer every time.
Was that just a sweep of the Cards? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Did you hear wrigley yelling "sweep sweep sweep sweep sweep" just after Barrett jacked a grand slam into the streets?
It's a marathon, not a sprint. You cubbies can relish these early season wins and then enjoy sitting at home on the couch watching clutch teams play in the postseason.

What's always been consistent with LaRussa's Cards: since he's been here, we've been at or below .500 at 30 games into the season, then proceed to have one of the best records in baseball after that, and especially after the allstar break. And while i certainly don't enjoy loosing, especially to the chubs, i'll take gratification knowing we'll be there in the end competing in the post season with other high caliber teams while the Prior and Wood and the rest of the Cubs are licking their wounds preparing for winter hibernation like all lil bears do.

Nice ball tho with the sweep Chubs. ;)
