Beginning in 1998 with injections in his buttocks of the powerful steroid Winstrol, Barry Bonds took a wide array of performance-enhancing drugs over at least five seasons, according to "Game of Shadows," a book written by two San Francisco Chronicle reporters. The authors describe in sometimes day-to-day, drug-by-drug detail how often and how deeply Bonds engaged in the persistent doping.
Re: Bonds and 'Roids

Some exerpts:
The authors, Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams, describe in sometimes day-to-day, drug-by-drug detail how often and how deeply Bonds engaged in the persistent doping. For instance, the authors write that by 2001, when Bonds broke Mark McGwire's single-season home-run record (70) by belting 73, Bonds was using two designer steroids referred to as the Cream and the Clear, as well as insulin, human growth hormone, testosterone decanoate (a fast-acting steroid known as Mexican beans) and trenbolone, a steroid created to improve the muscle quality of cattle.

Depending on the substance, Bonds used the drugs in virtually every conceivable form: injecting himself with a syringe or being injected by his trainer, Greg Anderson, swallowing pills, placing drops of liquid under his tongue, and, in the case of BALCO's notorious testosterone-based cream, applying it topically.

According to the book, Bonds gulped as many as 20 pills at a time and was so deeply reliant on his regimen that he ordered Anderson to start "cycles" -- a prescribed period of steroid use lasting about three weeks -- even when he was not due to begin one. Steroid users typically stop usage for a week or two periodically to allow the body to continue to produce natural testosterone; otherwise, such production diminishes or ceases with the continued introduction of synthetic forms of the muscle-building hormone.

seriously i hope he gets hurt a bit and has to pass ruth at shea stadium this year so 50,000 yankees fans can show instead of mets fans and throw shit at him.

Re: Bonds and 'Roids

Which leads me to Jon Stewart in an interview with Sports Illustrated before the Oscars:
SI: If Barry Bonds breaks Hank Aaron's record, what would The Daily Show present him with?

Stewart: I'd present him with Hank Aaron's integrity, class and humility. I'm not sure I can bronze that, but I'd love for him to have it.
Re: Bonds and 'Roids

baseball is a joke.

every superstar from the last 5 years has been a proven steriod user.

this wbc is a total waste of everyones time and there will be at least 1 or 2 substantial injuries that will royally piss off an owner (stienbrenner).

i played ball for over 10 years, i went to cal ripkens 2131 and now...baseball is just a joke. quite sad.
i personally think baseball is on a somewhat of a renaisance expesually since no one can use roids anymore.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch. I'm not as much of a fan as I used to be but I don't dislike it. I would wait to pass judgement on the dawn of a new era until MLB has had a few clean years under its belt.

Re: Bonds and 'Roids

Baseball is a joke! This league is so screwed up. No Salary Cap, Drug testing is B.S., and half the guys are fat and out of shape....but they can hit the long ball so its ok. Please, this sport is in the same class as the NBA......none! No REAL salary Caps. They can draft their players out of high school, What the F*uck is up with that anyway? You are in a PROFESSIONAL League and you have a bunch of uneducated kids out there with millions playin a sport.....and you wonder why they get into trouble! At least you have to go to college to get to the NFL . Minimum of 3 years just so you'll get some sort of education and grow up a little!

Google the following: Thomas Edison Orville Wright Sir Richard Branson

etc etc etc

WHAT!!!! You cant be serious

#582755Post 23 of 46

Re: Bonds and 'Roids

most pitchers in the mlb are drafted out of college, and you have forgotten about the minor leagues. unlike the nfl, baseball players grow up in pros because the fact that baseball is not a contact sport and allows the player to play longer then 10 years in the leauge. i would recommened the book "moneyball" by micheal lewis to anyone even slightly interested in scouting and the major leauge minor leauge system.

Nice quote from Stewart! Missed that interview.

Growing up I like Jose Canseco and Mark Mcguire, I remember them from when they were hitting 40 hrs with the Oakland A's a season and that was great! Then I grew up and realized baseball has no point. I stopped watching after I turned 13.

Re: Bonds and 'Roids

This is no big surprise. But does this make him a bad baseball player. He still hit all those home runs. Either way he still is great player. If Rose can gamble on baseball, I guess it is alright to take roids and hit a lot of home runs. Point, no matter what happens baseball is still boring.

ska, i saw the quotes, but the actual article is sickening. shows how badly he cheated. most dont even realize how bad it was. not to mention how much of a scumbag he was. how he threatened to kill the girl if she opened her mouth or didnt let him know where she was.

Re: Bonds and 'Roids

is this finally when baseball received the drastic make over it so desperately requires?

all im saying is that the NFL is putting on a clinic how to run a professional sports league. baseball is a game of tradition, but theres a line between being traditional and being a bunch of idiots.

btw, did anyone read the article about david wells thoughts on bud selig? hillarious.
