i'm sure everyone by now has heard if you pay attention to sports at all. i respect his decision, but i'm going to miss watching him play. nothing will beat his college days, but watching him in general was a pleasure for me. i can admire for him for calling it quits to do something he'd rather.... (which will involve lots of pot, i'm sure :Blazed: )

have fun in asia ricky! :Bingo:

Re:: Ricky Williams Retired

Yeah it really wouldn't make sense to keep continuing something you have no interest in doing. Respect for doing what he wants. :Respect:

Re:: Ricky Williams Retired

the timing of his decision is wrong but good for him making this choice. his head wasn't in the game so why do something you're not enjoying? good for him.

he probably couldn't handle the media. he does have social anxiety, the poor guy probably just wanted a minute to be left alone.

#225253Post 15 of 80

he got his money...now good riddance.

The dude never had that killer instinct anyway. The game will be better off without him.

whatever man... i totally disagree. nobody breaks a college record like most yards EVER by a running back record and doesn't have a killer instinct. the dude was great, imo. he definitely gave the fans in miami something to go to the game for, too. the rest of their team sucks, they're too busy partying at nerve. :RockOn:

Re:: Ricky Williams Retired

they were saying on espn that he'd smoke pretty regularly. he was using masking agents for his piss tests. he had just tested positive again a couple of months ago and was probably going to have to miss the first 4 games this year if he continued to play.

#225314Post 19 of 80

test how many players use marijuana without that dillutant... anyways, we should just do what canada does and make it legal.

Re:: Ricky Williams Retired

seems like the football players love weed. bam morris, that line man from the cowboys. they both got caught with just a shitload of weed.

i'm betting it's pretty much everywhere.

#225324Post 21 of 80

I couldn't believe it when I heard that. All it means is that my patriots will have a cake walk to win the AFC east again this year...:lol::lol:

Actually, let me restate that -- he never had that killer instinct in the NFL -- he was a complete stud in college. In the NFL, he wore a helmet during interviews for years (which doesn't say anything about his play, but is a little weird), seemed injury prone, and underperformed when finally put in an offense that was truly built around him.

what offense was built around him? lol...the o-line sucked ass and the other players played like shit. didn't he have back to back 200 yard games last year?

#225376Post 24 of 80

doesn't matter much anymore, he'll go down in history as a quitter, if he goes down at all.

Re:: Ricky Williams Retired

Fuck that motherfucker. I am a huge dolphin fan and to do this right before camp is fucking bullshit. We could have Eddie George. What a selfish prick. I will never give up on the year but this really makes us the favorite to have a top 5 pick in next years draft.. Fuck Ricky Williams and fuck the Patriots

regarding that helmet interview stuff in New Orleans was something the veteran players made him do for his rookie initiation stuff.

They mentioned that he is on meds for some attetion complex problem or some shit like that.

he has a social anxiety disorder. afraid of the public... which is another reason he wore his helmet during interviews if not THE reason. thats also the reason he wore the mask on his helmet.

His first year with the Dolphins he led the league in rushing with over 1800 yds. Those are elite numbers. The problem last year was they had no offensive line and the qbs suck. You can't blame anything on Ricky. I feel sorry for him. He has a real complex with notoreity.

MIAMI (AP) -- Ricky Williams could be forced to give back the Miami Dolphins more than $8 million already paid to him because he retired before the expiration of his contract.

Because of penalty clauses included when Williams' contract was reworked two years ago, the team could try to recoup $5.3 million in incentive money, said sources familiar with the terms who requested anonymity. The Dolphins also could seek $3.3 million of the $8.8 million signing bonus Williams received when he joined the New Orleans Saints in 1999, the sources said.

The Dolphins said they've made no decision about whether to pursue the matter. Williams' contract expires in 2006.

The contract is not an issue,'' general manager Rick Spielman said. The contract will eventually take care of itself. The focus has been on moving forward without Ricky and getting ready for training camp.''

Williams stunned the Dolphins when he informed them of his retirement decision Friday, and they've had no contact with him since, Spielman said. Williams, who has been traveling for the past week, was in Boston on Tuesday and may return to South Florida by the end of the week, said his agent, Leigh Steinberg.

Williams decided to retire aware of potential consequences, financial and otherwise, Steinberg said.

He's very much at peace and excited about embarking on the next phase of his life,'' Steinberg said. I don't anticipate him changing his mind, but history is replete with examples of athletes who had second thoughts at later dates.''

Barring a change of heart, Williams' retirement at age 27 leaves the Dolphins with a huge void in their offense. They'll begin training camp workouts Saturday missing a player who rushed for 3,225 yards in two seasons with Miami.

Williams was to earn at least $3.6 million this year, with incentives possibly pushing that total as high as $6 million.

The Dolphins acquired Williams before the 2002 season. He led the NFL that year with 1,853 yards rushing and broke nine team records. Last season, he ran for 1,372 yards.

Re:: Ricky Williams Retired

Anyone who follows sports even halfass knows this guy was something different. The dress incident, hiring Master P as his agent, all of that stuff. I, for one, thought he was pretty damn good and I really enjoyed watching him play. Anyone remember the Sunday night game last season against Buffalo when he carried the ball 42 times. Granted, it was late in the game and Buffalo's defense was suckin' mad wind, but think about what that took out of him.

All in all, it is inexcuseable for him to pull this stunt a week before training camp. It shows who he puts first. He has to realize that the fans in Miami have a vested interest in him being on the team. How many people bought season tickets just to see him play. Aside from their defense (which isn't what it was) who else is there to come see? Maybe the thought of being completly overshadowed by Shaq was too much for him...only he knows.

As for the weed thing...can you blame him?? So he wants to chief more than he wants to play football...that's for him to deceide. Its the timing that he is to be held at fault for.

I think he is a classic case of a talented athlete who never came to terms with, or wanted, any of the fame that he was pushed into.

But he was a badass in college wasn't he!!!!!! :shock:

Who knows, but I don't think so.

Wrong. He wasn't one the greatest, but I can think of 20 other running backs that were WAY more overrated than he was. Anthony Thomas anyone????
