alrite let's hear everyone's mindless banter chants for their home teams...
bluenialler Are you watching Euro 2004? Are you cancelling your French gigs after Sundays defeat (even though your Welsh) ? Sasha - im absolutely gutted! it's unbelievable! we were robbed!!!
hahahahahahha

our home team is fucked up, so we aren't at the Euro... i don't really have afavourite. Maybe the Dutch, although they played 1:1 against Germany. But still, both goals were nice.

But the best game so far was definitely England : France esp. the last 2 minutes when Zinedine Zidane brought victory to France with 2 against 1 and Becks fucked up a penalty shot... He definitely is one of the greatest... Although Sweden : Bulgaria wasn't that bad either. (5:0). Acouple of lovely goals...

Belgium isn't @ euro 2004 as well. My fav are France, because they have the best player of the tournament: Zidane 8)

Re: Euro 2004

There has been some good games so far and being a neutral makes it all the more fun. I reckon it's going to be quite a tight competition with a few teams that can walk away with it.
Sasha - im absolutely gutted! it's unbelievable! we were robbed!!!
I'm surprised he thinks they were robbed, they threw it away. I felt so sorry for the fans though.

And i was feeling great since the second coming of [MS] and now you bring this up. Thanks mate!

We were robbed as he says. 90 minutes of class then 3 mins of madness, thats all it took. I`m still numb

Still, if we play like that then we should roll over the Swiss and the Croations, but we are the English so anything could happen.

#197628Post 6 of 387

robbed?

90 minutes of class?

i would say that we pretty much got our just deserts. sure, the defence played well but apart from rooney we were abysmal. playing pretty much the whole second half under constant pressure only relieved for a few seconds at a time by a senseless hoof up to the halfway line does not equate to class football.

luckily the swiss and croats look piss poor so i fully expect us to get through to the next round.

its also good to see that all the 'big' nations appear to be playing like shite. germany, italy, spain, holland and france have not impressed me overly and portugal were absolutely shambolic.

go england!!

Probably one of the teams with the worst of luck when it comes to European and World championships. Well, Beckham fucked it up with the penalty. I'm sure he lost a couple of fans with this one and let's hope he will be better in the future.

Ok 80 mins then. Come on, we were robbed you have to admit. Two little mistakes and its game over. They didnt have a clue how to break us down, yeh we didn`t have them pinned back all the time but our deffence was good, midfield strong and although Owen was not firing Ronney was outstanding. So yes, i would say we were class, to say we were playing the best team in the world.

#197673Post 12 of 387

sure, it was a sickener no doubt.

all this talk of us being brilliant or class is simply misleading though. it is naive to think that you can win anything with the kind of tactics i saw employed on sunday night where the entire aim was to sit on the edge of our own box for 45 minutes.

the midfield were strong you say? maybe in the first half, second half all i saw was people chasing shadows and fouling zidane or viera if they got close enough to them. surely a strong midfield would have had the ability to put its foot on the ball and retain posession for more than 20 seconds at a time and relieve the pressure? in particular i thought beckham was piss poor, even though i thought he hit his penno pretty well.

as you say though, rooney was class in a glass. to me it looked as though sven took him off to protect him form some card action. he was defiantely getting wound up by the likes of makelele.

just out of interest, do you think we would have been even close to france if they had scored first?

#197702Post 13 of 387
just out of interest, do you think we would have been even close to france if they had scored first?
If i could predict things like that i would have saved [MS] from disaster.

Hypothetical questions are something that are none answerable imo, but i know what you are getting at.

#197729Post 14 of 387

I would say that England?s team still did better than it?s fans. We had some rioting in Algarve last night....after some rioting here in Lisbon last Saturday during our city?s annual Carnival.

Can?t these people hold a drink? Christ...

Come to think of it, people who participate in that Carnival are asshats, so deserve having pepper gas sprayed at them

As for footie itself? Well, Portugal is still in a state of shock after the defeat with Greece and, personally, I see disaster forthcoming for my team. Every home in this country has a national flag in it?s window, many cars go around with little flags, and that?s all beautiful, but our team needs renewal. Guys like Figo, Rui Costa and Couto are past their due date, and don?t really give a shit. It?s time we forget the "Golden Generation" and start giving guys like Deco, Ronaldo and Postiga their time.

I was really disappointed with England?s defeat but, 1st of all, they didn?t play better than France (it was a shitty football game, really), the game should have ended in a draw, even though the way England played in the last 20-25 minutes was an invitation for France to swamp them.

Beckham is the most overrated football player of the last 10 years (all of Europe thinks the same), and does a better job of holding balls than kicking them, and as for Rooney...well, he?s got a future, but is way too clumsy, and too naive to succeed in this Cup. You guys can?t seriously be counting on him to be your MVP. Shearer still kicks his ass.

And I?m old enough to remember Lineker...those were the days.

The teams playing the best football are Sweden and Denmark, surprisingly.

Maybe my view is slightly biased but i thought they did. Are you saying that France were the better team? I think i should try and watch this game again cos i must have been in a daze.

I wasn?t too clear there. What I meant was that the game was too split to say that any of the teams was playing better than the other. I believe a 1-1 draw would have reflected the gameflow better...even though I was rooting for England, so to me it wouldn?t matter if they played like shit, as long as they could win!

#197763Post 17 of 387

...and on Friday we will end Italy's quest for the Euro 2004!!!

#197916Post 18 of 387

Its all about Italy this year. Nah seriously, im italian and i was soo pissed off on Monday when the Italians didnt do shit for 90 minutes. Totti wasnt into it, Vieri is passed his prime, Del Piero should only play the last 20 minutes or so, Nesta was sleeping, Cassano did too many stupid moves. I mean come on?

I think theres a good chance France will go all the way and good for them, they have the best player and an incredible chemistry.

I'm not sure what game you were watching. England out played France till the end when, after a series of really stupid miskates, they threw it all down the pan.

If England can keep it up they have a good shot at going far in Euro 2004. They wont be making those same mistakes again, I can assure you.

COME ON ENGLAND.

Police to let England fans smoke dope

From NICK PARKER in Portugal

ENGLAND fans will be allowed to smoke dope before Sunday?s crunch clash with France ? to keep them calm.

Cops in Lisbon plan to crack down on drunk supporters while turning a blind eye to those spotted puffing on a spliff.

Pot-smoking fans have been assured they will not be arrested, cautioned ? or even have their drugs confiscated.

Last night experts said the Portuguese police?s ?Here We Blow? policy would reduce chances of a punch-up between rival fans.

Alan Buffry of the Legalise Cannabis Alliance said: ?If people are drinking they lose control, if they smoke cannabis they don?t.

?Alcohol makes fans fight. But cannabis smokers will be shaking hands and singing along together.?

Dutch police used a similar policy in Euro 2000 and England?s hooligan element were too stoned to fight.

A Lisbon police spokeswoman said: ?If people cause a problem through drugs and become a menace then police will take action. But when this doesn?t happen why should the police be the ones making the fuss??

More than 600 officers will be on duty for England?s opening group game at Lisbon?s Stadium of Light.

Fans who seem to be drunk may be breath-tested and refused entry.

That?s fucking brilliant!!

For once I?m proud of our Police force.

But the problem is, there was another riot in the Algarve last night. Another 30 English fans arrested (hey, I go to some of those bars in Albufeira in the Summer!!! Leave a piece of it to me!)

Apparently, the police is doing their job, but our drug dealers aren?t.

I think there was a link to a Guardian article related to this in a thread on the ol' MS  The pourtugeese police was advised by the Dutch police, with lots of expirience from the last Euro.

Well, Potugal won over the Russians. 2:0 Quite an interesting game (could have been better if the Russians wouldn't have lost their goalkeeper (he received a red card) and if they had all 11 players in the game.

Spain : Greece played a tie.

So Russia is definitely going home, while the Greeks are almost certainly moving forward... What a surprise. Go Greece?
