Re: NBA Finals

yeah ginobili is making a stand on why is he is most underrated superstar. but this finals is going to kill the NBA, such a boring uninspired series. tim duncan is killing the league, i cant even watch the whole game.

NBA finals should have been Suns/Heat and maybe the NBA could have regained some footing. the whole league is dying

Re: NBA Finals

yeah go spurs!!

Parker started off good to really keep them in the beginning of the game

and also Duncan is a class act.... 8)

#434864Post 4 of 80

I am going for D-town. I love the Wallaces. Should be good either way. :D

he was something. a very dynamic player. also really fun to watch. i just do not like Shaq, and like watching him get second place or third, or fourth. lol.

give me a fucking break. how can you say the best team in basketball is killing the nba? its ashame that nowadays to think that people need flash and not skill to stand out and make things exciting. only people that don't appreciate the game in its true sense think that superstars have to be flashy and thuggish like alan iverson and company. i'm sure if tim duncan was questioned for murder or for beating his fucking wife and kid, that'd restore some momentum in the league, eh? or at least make him a superstar? maybe i'm just old-school where i think you should show what you got out on the court and be humble about how much ass you kick.

Yeah Wade reminds me of Jordan when he takes it strong to the hoop! :D Seems like Wade is a class act too....

I like watchin Shaq beat up on people sometimes but since the idiot can't shoot free throws, I lose respect for the lazy sob :|

Re: NBA Finals

duncan isn't a big marketing product, but he plays better than anyone.

the spurs made it to the 4th quarter thanks to him... he scored 24 points and 17 rebounds...

then gino killed the pistons :P

#434897Post 10 of 80

Basketball = Netball for boys IMO.

#434902Post 11 of 80

Re: NBA Finals

oh garrick i was just saying how the spurs and pistons arent exciting to watch and that hurts the NBA in terms of marketing. it is proven that thier revenues have dropped since Jordan left. and they are continuing the decline. the sport itself is hurting in the public eyes. the Suns and Heat would have gotten a lot more people excited to watch and enjoy. even you have to admit, the suns are a team that leaves you wide eyed with thier play. shame thier all around best player missed the conference finals. johnson would have helped them a lot more if he didnt break his face.

duncan is plainly the best player around. so fundamentally sound and consistent. but boring. very boring. its too slow a style of play. a big sign of this was that the "And One" on ESPN had better ratings than 70% of the NBA playoffs. offense is what gets you the viewers. but defense wins.

#434920Post 12 of 80

Re: NBA Finals

got to disagree...

offense makes regular people watch the games.

basketball fans appreciates the real game, team play, tough defense, solid offense imho.

I couldn't agree more. If you ask anyone who would you rather watch Magic and the old Lakers or the today's Pistons, I bet you 8 out of 10 willsay the Lakers and their high powered offense.

#434927Post 14 of 80

sightless - i do agree that the suns are exciting to watch. i found it even more exciting to watch them get raped by the spurs.

i know you have a point, its just annoying that everyone thinks they are boring when clearly they have such a solid team. they just don't make mistakes, which i guess makes them boring. just like nobody likes seeing the yankees win over and over gain, maybe nobody likes seeing the spurs win so much. (i know the yankees thing was a low blow )

#434928Post 15 of 80

Re: NBA Finals

complete agreement, but the basketball fan demographic is shrinking rapidly outside of inner city areas. even they admit it. they are trying to gain a larger fan base to avoid what happened to hockey, lone gone are the days of bird/ magic, jordan vs the world, ewing/miller, all the old school guys who were just amazing to watch. now its just watching parker dump it to the post and letting duncan pull a turnaround jumper. its just not exciting.

steve nash and amare are going to re-invigorate the sport. amare is only 22, joe johnson is 23, Q is like 26-27, marion is 27, they have a great core. gonna be exciting to watch this team grow.

the hardcore fans are gonna be there, but they need to go out and get a larger fan base.

just look at the scores. 60-70 point games are slow, 120 points a night is something to marvel at.

#434932Post 16 of 80

Re: NBA Finals

magic, kareem abdul jabar, james worthy, even kurt rambis :P

that was the most entertaining (and effective) team ever.. watching that team play was like watching the globe-trotters :P

their games and the rivalry with the celtics were legendary.

you are forgetting the guy on the pic i posted opening the topic  even if he weren't from argentina, i would watch the game only to see him play.

#434935Post 18 of 80

Re: NBA Finals

ginobili is going to be a god sent in a few years for the league. he can do it all, and even as duncan said "" sometimes you need to abandon your style just to let him go on a run."". he knows how to play thier system, but has the ability to play with the fast paced offenses.

#434949Post 19 of 80

Re: NBA Finals

that was cool the spurs ran against the suns and beat them at their own game :P

thanks to gino and parker :)

now the spurs will play tough d and oust detroit at their own game 8)

#434951Post 20 of 80

^ exactly... any team that can change their style of play to better suit them to win against their opponent is not a boring team in my opinion. :)

even the fresh prince (robert horry) is picking up his game. starting to look like the clutch-man he was when houston won two championships in the 90s.

#434962Post 21 of 80

This series is one for the true basketball fans out there... the way the NBA was going was in the wrong direction and the fundamentals of the game were no longer being recognized and taught to the younger fans of the game... for the NBA at this point in time this series is not the best in terms of "primetime" "showtime" television, but this series is bringing back the art and structure that the older great franchises were founded on... as a fan and a player of the game, seeing the individual "chess match" battles on offense and defense between two players giving 100% at BOTH ends as well as the coaching clinics that Brown and Popovich have been putting on series after series in these playoffs is something to marvel at....
that makes this series special to me, its a series of two very structured teams with GREAT coaches, the problem the Pistons face is that they get away from the structure a little bit too much while Popovich and Duncan will never allow the Spurs to get to far off their game plan, I hope we get to see 7 games of it and that the Pistons prevail with their defence in the end... yesterdays game saw the Pistons and Spurs show signs of how great each of them can be as a team... although urban mainstream America may not enjoy this series without high flyers / Nash / Shaq but they may learn something about the game in the process, and by doing so I think the NBA will be better off in the long term... cheers all :Cheerz:

Re: NBA Finals

By Michael Wilbon...

If this isn't the NBA Finals you want, too bad. It's the one you should want. It's the perfect series for the folks who don't want their basketball littered with divas, the perfect series for people who believe the game has devolved into something entirely selfish and showy, the perfect series for folks who foolishly believe the pros aren't committed to playing defense, the perfect series for the conspiracy theorists who believe the NBA would go to any lengths to make sure the Finals include at least one team loaded with megastars to ensure big TV ratings.

I say Spurs in 5, maybe 6. But most likley 5.

--No offense man, but you couldn't be more wrong. Tim Duncan is the best all around player in the league, hands down, I don't care what anyone says--he might not do 360 dunks and no look passes, but no one is more solid than him----hence, why the Spurs are in the finals and not the Heat (Shaq). These Finals should be a relief to most. The players are actually playing defense, wow!! Its almost like college, not some bullshit AND1 tour, run and gun show. I admit, that's fun to watch, but there's a reason why these two teams made the finals--bottom line. It's the same reason why LeBron James is going to win championships. He's a team first player, who plays basketball like its meant to be played----and still ends up with 30, 10, + 10. I hear what you're saying, and most people would probably agree with you, but I do not. I do agree on Ginobilli though, Obi Wan is amazing!!
I wish Miami made it to the finals....I like Wade alot :)
me too. i think miami san an would have make for a more electrifying series.. but we shall see what detroit has up their sleeve. when they are playing good, they are solid.

#435502Post 27 of 80

Re: NBA Finals

pistons had a horrible game one and i just hope they bounce back and try to split.. tonight is a very big game because of the three they have to play in detroit.. look for chauncey to have a big game tonight

#435508Post 28 of 80

Re: NBA Finals

like most people i was hoping for a suns/heat final, but as i started to watch game 1 of the finals i realised, these are the 2 best TEAMS in the league, and why shouldnt they contest the final? they may not be as offensively spectacular, but as someone mentioned earlier, if you are a true basketball fan, and one who has played the game at a team level (not streetball) its really a great series to watch and marvel at the fundementals on show. i for one cant wait for game 2 tonight.

since im a quite far away from the US and as im argentinian i cheer up for spurs!!! Manu Ginobili is THE player, he kicks ass!! Nice 4th quarter the other day..

i've played the game at a team level in high school and college. this final still blows. pretty much the most boring games ever.

actually, a pretty sad time for sports in general. no hockey and the nba finals suck.

#435688Post 32 of 80

the playoffs/finals last (what seems to be) 8 months, while the regular season lasts 2 months. can you see a problem here?

Re: NBA Finals

I appreciate the team style of play the Pistons encorportate, especially on D. I could really care less who's in the finals though, so long as it is not LA. Basketball hasn't been the same since Jordan left.

does it say champ, chimp, chomp or chump? or chemp?

#436104Post 38 of 80

Will it looks like america's most boring team is going to be NBA champs. But I really could care less who know. Basketball is almost exciting as watching the grass grow.

Re: NBA Finals

manu deserves mvp of the finals. but this series is not as ugly as the spurs-nets final a few years ago...at least not yet.

#436221Post 40 of 80

Re: NBA Finals

all you have to say is that the TV ratings are down 27% FROM LAST YEAR AND those figures were already a 4 year decline as well.
