This is not the same as his Essential Mix. Paul says it's from 2000, but I reckon it's from 1999 and is possibly an unreleased part of the set that was part of his Essential Mix from 1999

So Simon you think the actual EM World Tour broadcast of the Rojam mix was a re-creation of what he actually played when he was there???

Regardless this is a massive find!

Re: Paul Oakenfold Live from Toe Jam China 1999 Not The Essential Mix 3+Hours

No the EM was definatley recorded in China. You notice none of the tracks played on this set appear on the EM.

Your statement would have had a lot more credibility had you not posted a shit load of Junior Vazquez mixes that are just dire. You can completely understand why he flopped so big in the UK. Brits didn't buy into the hype and he fell on his face. You talk about DJ's sucking Vazquez was A grade Hahahah

Re: Paul Oakenfold Live from Toe Jam China 1999 Not The Essential Mix 3+Hours

Phahaha.. Vasquez over Oakenfold any day..even now when Junior is 60+ and probably deaf and can't mix a shit..he is still a better DJ than Oakenfold..just my 2 cents :P

EDIT : Why Junior Vasquez didn't make it to the International superstar DJs list (Digweed,Cox,Vath,Sasha and others) is a whole another story and it's offtopic here..I have heard some things from friends from NYC and if you want, chunky, i will send you a PM..

EDIT 2 - It's a matter of taste,as others said - i don't like this proggy/trance period of electronic music at all,so that's why i hated what i heard in this set from Oakenfold..

agree 100%... his NYE 2001 mix on Radio 1 was pretty good. yea his mixing sucks but it always sucked.. sometimes it is just about the tracklisting.

his 2002 emix was decent but you could tell he was playing new stuff that just "wasnt the same"

No it's not a whole different story, Vazquez came to the uk expecting to take the the Uk by storm, by filling Alexandra Palace. Only they only sold a few hundred tickets. So the event was canceled. Instead he played MOS and Cream. At the Cream gig he was booed off stage when he started playing Rocket Man by Elton John. Hence why he high tailed it back to New York with his tail between his legs. Since then I think the only gig he's done I the UK was a one off at Heaven. The only place people seemed to like Vazquez was New York and that didn't last long.

You only have to check him out on Discogs, none of his back catalogue has any legendary releases, his mix CD's were appalling. You only have to look at the tracklist's to see why. So why didn't he make it to the top? Because he was crap, that's why.

So if it was all a mater of taste and you admit you don't like 'Proggy/trance' why did you bother downloading and listening to it? You seem to think that your own personal taste is the bench mark for everything else. Like in your other post were you couldn't believe Tenaglia would play zombie nation. Bad news again I'm afraid he played it a Home in Leicester Square. But it is quite funny watching you fall over yourself to make excuses for it.

Re: Paul Oakenfold Live from Toe Jam China 1999 Not The Essential Mix 3+Hours

Nah i heard some other stories about Junior's career:

  1. THE MUSIC - Junior's peak time and ''glory days'' were at the original Sound Factory where he build a large following of loyal fans (white, black, straight, gays) and took the meaning of the word ''resident DJ'' to a whole new level..(well he had enough time to observe and learn a thing or two from Paradise Garage resident DJ LARRY LEVAN..) As i heard at that time he denied all invitations to play elsewhere, couse ''SF IS MY HOME''.. And his music was a mix of early NYC house, garage and releases for Tribal America label..After SF's closing in 1995 Junior went on a residency at a large and carnavelous club Palladium and did his ARENA parties - THE BIG DIFFERENCE here was that ARENA concept was more GAY oriented - harder, faster and more vocal and anthemic DIVA house tunes .. later at TWILO Junior went even more harder, more faster (a lot of trancey tunes) and more gay sounding.. In the new century Junior completely lost the touch of whats new interessting and inspiring in house music and nowdays plays most of the time of his sets his own ''classics'' and his new material is just some recycled circuit tribal tunes plus a lot of vocals.. So basically his choice to stay loyal to his gay roots and to play for ''his crowd'' in New York is the main reason he didn't make it to International level (imagine Junior to play some of his remixes of Whitney Houston or Madonna at the peak time in Space Ibiza for example?! DISASTER!)

  2. Junior was a drug addict (Crystal Meth) and as he admits he was completely wasted at a lot of his gigs (Twilo,Earth at Exit)..i know that a lot of even superstar DJs use drugs and that in some cases that even helps them to be on top lol but not in this case.. He lived in his own cave for a long time and didn't care of whats going on in the world of electronic music so he lost the touch..His diva '' I AM THE ONLY QUEEN OF NYC'' attitude - playing at a custome build DJ booth at Twilo for 1 million dollars,as they say and public splitts with other DJs (Tenaglia,Calderone,Rauhofer) didn't help him much at this time..

3.The transition from turntables to CD Players was a total disaster for JV.. He was never a magician when it comes to mixing skills (although in his ''glory days'' Junior worked 3 turntables really well in his own style) but switching to CD players didn't help him either.. Nowdays the mixing in all of his sets is really, really bad.. I asked one of my friends from NYC,who knows Junior's career in person why is he not using software programs like Traktor to do the job for him.. But Junior will probably never use such programs - he prefers to stay ''old school''..

And no chunky,i don't think my personal taste is a bench mark for everything else - i just shared my opinion..Why i bother to d'l it - couse i wanted to see what's all the fuzz is all about..well it didn't change my mind but i can live with that lol I am sensitive about this subject couse my start with electronic music was with Psy and GOA trance (Oakenfold played a lot of goa in his earlier sets) and i can't stand any eurotrancey sounding stuff.. As i said that's just my own opinion and i felt the need to express it..That's what the forums are, right? =)

And for the Zombie Nation track - i didn't make any excuses - i just shared what i found as an explanation at Mixesdb (i didn't wrote it or made it up).. And what i felt while listening to the set - yeah probably you're right and Tenaglia did play this track at that time but i still think he didn't at that particular set ;)

But of course i didn't - 1996 i was only a 10 years old boy,who listened to stuff like Coco Jambo or Macarena lol At that time i had no clue about electronic music or whats going on in New York lol

What the fuck has race, colour, creed or sexuality got to do with it? 90% of that post looks like some shit you got from Wikipedia.

Interestingly that so called Arena night makes it sound a lot bigger that it was, check Wikipedia for the capacity. LOL.
