^It's Times Square for f*ck sake, whoever "they" is will most likely be on tape.
lol. yup!

one other thing: when this started going down last night, and they announced that it was a car bomb that failed, the authorities were saying "this was not an act of terrorism" - even, i think, bloomberg said something to the effect of, "it was very amateurish" - right Hizzoner, except for the one's that do succeed. I think they're now calling it an act of terrorism this morning but....damn....it should be worrisome that their first response to the public was "nothing to see here, just a car on fire with black powder and gasoline, it's typical here in NYC"

#1369011Post 4 of 81

Re: Times Square Terror Alert

amateurish means the gov't didn't plan it. Like it being on tape matters Florida. We still can't see the Pentagon tapes from 9/11 that were pointed at the ground and didn't work.

Re: Times Square Terror Alert

I am vindicated yet again. I said months ago that Paki's were gonna start bombing the US because of the drone bombings in Pakistan. This has nothing to do with "our way of life" this is revenge for the massacre of thousands of Paki's. There are over 1 million displaced as well because of the US involvment in Pakistan.

Did you think you could just drop bombs on people and they wouldn't seek revenge?

#1369161Post 16 of 81

Re: Times Square Terror Alert

Actually this is revenge for killing 2 people, not thousands. Dont forget you canucks are there too, if it got as much press they would go after you guys too. Would you be so giddy then?

I don't think anyone thought that. Well, at least not me. However, this is a wing of the Taliban IN pakistan

This isn't the Pakistani military. Rogue groups not authorized by the government to act on their behalf have no moral authority to retaliate. This would be no different if the Ku Klux Klan decided to firebomb a mosque in saudi arabia.

Re: Times Square Terror Alert

Could just be some militia redneck:

http://wcbstv.com/local/suspicious.package.fire.2.1669044.html
The homemade bomb was made largely with ordinary items, including three barbecue grill-size propane tanks, two 5-gallon gasoline containers, store-bought fireworks and cheap alarm clocks attached to wires.

A Pakistani Taliban group claimed responsibility for the failed attack in a 1-minute video. Kelly, however, said police have no evidence to support the claims, and noted that the same group had falsely taken credit for previous attacks on U.S. soil. The commissioner also cast doubt on an e-mail to a news outlet claiming responsibility.

If the claim is genuine, it would be the first time the Pakistani Taliban has struck outside of South Asia. It has no known global infrastructure like al-Qaida.
Lets not take these first-minute accounts as Truth and see how it plays out.

Re: Times Square Terror Alert

I just saw the surveillance video they're using to say it was some white dude. I'm not sure how they get to that conclusion (unless there is more video tape) - the guy was not walking from the car, it's pretty clear that he had just rounded the opposite corner. I get the sense that Napolitano is trying to raise the fear of militias in the US in order to clamp down on blue-haired grannies in the tea party.

And as far as militias go: this was parked outside of a friggin broadway theater. Since when do militias have an interest in blowing up or attacking non-government facilities? And so, the suspicion that this is trying to be sold to the public as a 'fear the tea party' schtick is becoming more and more clear to me.

Chunky, you completely missed the point bro.

The camera was pointed right at the truck - and it was inside what appears to be a restaurant facing that corner. What of the rest of the footage? And still, this guy is nowhere near that truck, and does not appear to be walking from the truck at all. I'm not sure where you pull that random nonsense from, but it has no relevance to my post in the slightest.

I guess this is some lame attempt at a joke? I give it a 2/10.

On a side note, just imagine how bad this would impact our markets if it came out that a foreign terrorist came within minutes of detonating a car bomb that would have killed dozens....and that we didn't stop it. I think there's good reason not to paint the perp as plain vanilla...

Re: Times Square Terror Alert

I just dont see the super huge scare every time this happens. It is fucked up and yes it is happening, but is it really that hard to do? I mean someone could walk down to the middle of times square with a backpack filled with hand grenades, pull the pin on one and boom. Its not that hard to kill a big group of people with a bomb, all it takes is just someone fucked up enough to do it.

If the federal authorities are interested in trying to help catch this suspect, and it's pretty clear they are (or why else did they release the video??), then they're basing their entire assumption of who did this on a guy who 1) isn't near the truck 2) was walking in the trucks direction before he rounded the corner (meaning he wasn't walking away from the truck, but towards it), 3) he was taking a shirt off (er, it was 85 degrees in NYC), 4) and the only other connection was that he popped his head back to look at something (perhaps the truck, perhaps something else?).

I'm not sure why the few seconds preceeding the clip they've given to the news media were not added? again, i suspect it's to 1) alleviate fears of a foreign terrorist getting at us in NYC again and 2) napolitano's clear wish to round up every last person who happens to take a negative view of the government. and I further support that with the fact that american terrorists either target government buildings or abortion doctors, this car was not parked at a government building or an abortion clinic, and when american terrorists actually put a bomb together (unabomber, mcveigh), they actually do so skillfully (unlike the derp who screwed this one up... much like the underpants bomber on that flight around nye).

of course it's not scary. until it actually detonated, so i think that's a little quarterbacking a bit, no? the point of terrorism is to either destroy government facilities or to scare the shit out of an otherwise docile public.

I agree - it isn't difficult to kill a large group of people with a bomb. It's that lone wolf scenario that is the most troubling. The guy who doesn't communicate anything to be intercepted. The guy who is unknowing, who doesn't fit the profile of a terrorist. That guy is unstoppable.

I'm waiting for the mug shot now that we learned it was a man with a Pakistani descent not a white guy. Sounds like some possible racism and/or a tacit attack on the right wing specifically the tea party movement. I'd like the authorities explain the white guy thing.

Re: Times Square Terror Alert

Evan Kohlmann, a terrorism expert at Flashpoint Partners, is most struck by the amateurishness of what he calls "this so-called bomb." The alarm clocks designed to trigger the blast were 1960s-era technology. "Every terror group, every homegrown extremist cell, knows how to use remote detonators," he says. "It doesn't take a Ph.D. in electrical engineering." Beyond that, Kohlmann adds, its overall design — clocks setting off fireworks to ignite gas and gasoline — "doesn't exist outside of Tom and Jerry cartoons." thats gotta be quite an embarrasement!!! hahaha

Man, I was browsing huffpost yesterday....and i kid you not, about 90% of them were hoping it was a white tea partier person. It was kinda disgusting tbh. Geraldo was going nuts yesterday too, hoping it was some love child of timothy mcveigh.

Re: Times Square Terror Alert

This won't be blamed on immigration but rather terrorism. It is to keep the public in constant fear. I mean Al Qaeda and the Taliban have gone from hijacking planes with extreme sophistication and causing massive damage to not being able to setoff M80's?? I mean fireworks and propane tanks and M80's? So pathetic.

You see the gov't can spin whatever they want. First they blamed it on the Tea Partiers to make them guilty. Now it is Pakistan Taliban. You see they can blame anyone on the events they cause.

very true Chunky. The police must be trained and updated on the fact that real terrorists like to not only have one bomb go off but like a secondary device to kill the heplers.
