Re: Video-US Apache helicopter killing civilians and journalists

My father was in the military for 30 years tuff guy. He didn't go to Vietnam but did partcipate in the first Iraq War and is retired now and has been working as a contractor over in Kuwait in the middle of the desert for the last 5 years. He is no Delta Force member but goes into Iraq with seal teams that stop thru the base there in the middle of that desert shithole for whatever crazy ops they do.

I am not in the military because I know since I was a kid how much it would suck ass, and is not something I would ever be interested in, how shitty the pay is, etc. I have to say I would rather be doing what I do now in the private sector than being dictated to by my superiors. The issue I think most people have here is that you guys are calling the guys on the ground as a whole a bunch of murderers and shit and saying that they should calmly ask anyone they think is a threat to nicely identify themselves, maybe show them their papers, and then sit down and discuss their issues together. If they dont do this and they kill someone then they are murderous US thugs.

DONT blame the enlisted men on the ground making 1/3 the money we all are right now whos wife and kids back home want them back. I say blame Bush and Donnie R.

The soldier who fired that gun was a murder. And if he didn't prove that with the first rounds he fired, he certainly did when he opened fire on the van taking the injured away. Do you think it was a mercy killing?

Re: Video-US Apache helicopter killing civilians and journalists

When I was 22 I went to the recruiting office in San Diego and took the test that indicates where your skills lie and what military job you would be good at. I had the date set and was ready to sign the final paperwork for boot camp when I called my Dad who essentially talked me out of it... He's a military wonk, and has read absurd amounts of books on military.. Essentially he said that "if serving your country in the military is not something you've wanted to do most of your life, it's probably not for you," and I heeded his advice... I do have several close friends in the marines and cousins who have served several tours in the middle east, so I've had plenty of conversations and experiences seeing them change into completely different people after going over there... and not for the better...
Looks like the soldiers are playing a game of co-op Modern Warfare 2 and showing equal regard for the targets they hit.
You know that was one of the scariest parts about that , I actually found myself trying to line up on target. It all seems so removed from reality.

RM It's not breaking alliances , it's having different opinions . Adults can usually cope with that :) In this thread I agree with you Shock horror !! Well mostly !!

This is similar to the Bloody Sunday massacre of 1972 where British troops executed 14 civilians after being shot at earlier in the day. I official investigation concluded yesterday took 12 years and cost £192 million pounds (Yes Pounds not dollars), considerably more than the 9/11 commission had for their investigation.

Re: Video-US Apache helicopter killing civilians and journalists

Since the guy who did it apparently has been fingered and detained it won't take long for them to probably put him in front of a military court. Probably alot depends on what/if all of these other docs get released and how sensitive they really are.

Re: Video-US Apache helicopter killing civilians and journalists

I've just seen on disspaches that following this event the same Helecopter and crew went on to bomb a building claiming that there where 6 insurgents hiding inside it. Killing and inocent passer by in the process.Check out this at 18 minutes.
