Well did anybody see Obama's speech yesterday? I thought it was a great speech full of all the lies and usual bullshit he says. What a great moment when Joe Wilson spoke up and yelled "You Lie!" finally Obama got a taste of what all the others are getting when they do their townhalls.

The major lie for me yesterday was Obama taking credit for turning the economy around. What a crock of shit when the jobless report came out today saying another 216,000 people lost their jobs last month. I guess when quarter of a million people lose their job it is a success. Also when analysts are saying that millions of foreclosures are on the way.. Oh ya great job.

I suppose it should come as no surprise to anyone that you view as a great moment something that everyone else recognizes as a real low point for American politics. It's one thing when unhinged, knuckle-dragging wingnuts at town halls disrepect their elected officials, but we should hold members of Congress to a higher standard. I don't really care if his "emotions got the better of him" or whatever bullshit excuse he offered -- he's a member of Congress and he should have some fucking self-control.

I don't want to make an overly big deal about this -- not calling for his resignation, not demanding a better apology, nor am I ginning up any mock outrage over his stunt. I just think it is really pathetic that it has devolved to this, where members of Congress whip themselves into such a lather that they can't conduct themselves in a dignified manner.

Policy aside, I don't think that there's anyone that could sincerely contest Obama's desire to work on things in bi-partisan fashion, that he would prefer to have the GOP involved in the process rather than just ramming something through Congress -- indeed, if he just wanted to ram something through, Rahm would have cracked some skulls and it would have happened by now. When this is what meets you on the other side, though, where some on the other side have no interest in intelligent discourse, it sorta removes the incentive to include them in the fold. Sad.

Re: "You Lie"

even in the British house of commons people can speak out. When did the US become so proper? Someone had to speak out against Obama since his healthcare townhalls were rigged.

What you view as a sad day should be viewed as a great day. The people are finally being heard in the big house. You see when the Senators do townhalls and get heckled that moves on to the big house. It is a chain effect.

There is a difference between "speaking out" and being a dick. Clearly the latter here.

If this was such a watershed moment, why did Wilson issue a mea culpa before the post speech coverage was even over?

Re: "You Lie"

There is a stark difference between:
Some of people's concerns have grown out of bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost. The best example is the claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but by prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens.

Now, such a charge would be laughable if it weren't so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie plain and simple.
...in prepared remarks, and:
YOU LIE!
...shouted out in the middle of a speech. If you can't see that, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Re: "You Lie"

I'm starting to think that you are part of some kind of online "Candid Camera" show or something, because no one could possibly be this dense. Any time there is more than one way to interpret a comment, you necessarily gravitate to the one that makes the least sense. It's painful.

Whether someone is a douchebag in their private life and whether someone is capable of behaving like an adult when necessary are two entirely different things. This guy gets himself so whipped into a froth that he just blurts shit out in the middle of a President's address to Congress? It should not happen. When elected officials -- ostensibly the measured, thoughtful leaders of our nation -- start demonstrating the same one-man-mob mentality that characterizes the lunatic fringe (a/k/a your living room), that's a problem.

And incidentally, at least two fact-checking sites (here and here) have sided against Wilson on his claim that Obama lied -- making the outburst all the more unnecessary.

Re: "You Lie"

toasty its politics.. maybe it was planned to get his name out there against Obama. Maybe he will be the new face of the republicans? who gives a shit. I just didn't think it was that big of a deal to be honest and posted it because I knew it would be a good talking point. I was just happy that Obama got heckled because he deserves it. The dollar is doomed, his policies suck, no accountablity, no trasparency, the guy is a liar. What is painful is your absolute belief in your gov't when you have no reason whatsover to have faith.

Toasty you will notice I never result to personal attacks unlesss provoked. It is lame and shows intelligence. I say what is on my cuff, that has always been my problem and blessing at the same time. Some people hate me for it and some people love me for it. When they want it between the eyes they come to me. And I am giving your countries image right between the eyes. Absolute denial is not the way to go.
What is painful is your absolute belief in your gov't when you have no reason whatsover to have faith.
It's not that I have unyielding faith in my government, it's that I don't view everything through the jaundiced eyes of a conspiracy theorist, nor do I start from the proposition that we're fucked. I don't know how you get out of bed in the morning with that mindset of yours, honestly.

Literally laughed out loud at this, dude, you're killing me. Between the complete absence of a logical process in your thinking, the fact that you actually created a separate account on here to support yourself when you were on the wrong side of an argument, and the general gravitation towards all things conspiratorial, the idea of you as resident truth-teller is spectacularly off-target.

FFS dude, doesn't it strike you as odd that the "-er" title of the day -- "truther," "birther," "deather," etc. -- always applies to you? It's cartoonish in its absurdity.

Re: "You Lie"

Your Obama loving colours seize to amaze me Toasty. How many more lies does he have to follow through on before you believe there is absolutely NO CHANGE whatsover. He even admitted last night that he was going along with some of the Bush policies.. Let see what he has done with his change.

Promised out of Iraq - He is pulling the Military and bringing in mercenaries and escalating Afghanistan another stupid war.

Promised 3 million jobs - So far 3 million have been lost

Says the economy is turning around - BULLSHIT

Said he wouldn't add signing statments to bills like Bush did - Lie

Where is the accountability? Where is the trasparency?

What's it gonna take?

Re: "You Lie"

@ runningman

This is another fantastic example of what I'm talking about. I post something that doesn't even breathe the word Obama and is actually just critical of your thought process generally, and you interpret it as a love-in for Obama. The truth is, you don't know my current take on Obama, because I haven't been posting in this section much of late, but I can assure you that I have a very realistic and sober take on his current job performance and my expectations of his presidency, which are disconnected from the overreaction du jour you like to propagate around here.

My biggest concern, and the reason I actually decided to chime in on this, is that your opening post is demonstrative of the celebration of ignorance that characterizes what passes for political discourse these days. This ass clown interrupts a speech, calling the Pres a liar. That's something I would expect to see on a playground, not the floor of the House. What if the GOP members had just put their fingers in their ears and said "BLAH BLAH BLAH" throughout the speech? Would that appropriate?

This is important stuff worthy of serious debate, not the chides of a 6 year old.

More people are unemployed now then in the Great Depression. Those numbers are gross. So if you want something to put your panties in a mess make it about that. Not about jesus getting called a liar.

for god's sake take a look at this and don't compare pears to apples:

"The population more than doubled between 1940 and 2000. It reached 300 million in 2006 and is still growing. The 2006 population of California alone was 36,457,549, more than a quarter of the national population in 1940"

Of course there's more people unemployed now than in the great depression you moron, and most of the unemployed are the sad heritage of Bush's economic policies geared guess what, to make the rich richer and to keep the rest on the edge, and the only one's fucking this country are the big pharmaceutical and insurance companies who make the grossest profits at the expense of the peoples health, maybe you're getting a little brain freeze up there my friend...

Re: "You Lie"

It is a shame the number of people going hungry everyday in this country, that's the biggest failure of this economical-political frame we are in, it is also a shame that our elected officials choose to play politics instead of work together for the well being of the rest...

Re: "You Lie"

while i agree that Obama's HOPE banner of last year has done absolutely fuck all so far in his presidency... i do think that this douche's LIAR comment was way out of line. Out of all the times Bush gave speeches, not 1 person called him a liar, when effectively he lied to get us into Iraq and he is by far a worse President than Obama has been so far.

bottom line, it was way out of line... i agree with Toasty, that is something 3-year olds do... one look at all the Republicans last night, a lot of them holding piles of paper in defiance is just so child-like its sad. Republicans are just further putting the nail into their coffin, complete idiots and children.

And for the record, if the Dem's did this to Bush Jr., i would be thinking the same.

What on earth does "Goldman perhaps for against their man" even mean? I've tried to diagram the sentence and everything, and I keep coming up snake eyes.

While you're at it, though, take a look at the opensecrets page on this race and explain why it is that you think that Goldman Sachs is suddenly flooding this dude with money.
