It is because of preconcieved notions and confirmation bias.

He is not a truely open minded person, nor can he intake information that does not agree with his view points already.

Re: you know what's astonishing?

No you are just brainwashed not an idiot. Just like 80% of the US is in a trance state. You walk around in a theta mind state.

Re: you know what's astonishing?

Actually 80% of us have been 'gotten to', and have been told by the CIA to STFU. :D

Nope, just psychology, from his posts his is more then happy with his confirmation bias, as are you, just pointing it out. only someone that can see he has a bias and has dealt with it is free from it.

niether you nor him have done this correct? because all of your views are true and factual correct?

Tell me, after searchng thru your beliefs, which ones did you get rid of if any?

#1402837Post 612 of 1064

Re: you know what's astonishing?

Because a conspiracy involving thousands of people without word of it ever leaking out is impossible. Also planes dont just dissapear out of the sky in front of hundreds of people who have no need to lie and those passengers taken to secluded locations and hidden/killed for 10 years without anyone hearing about it. pretty easy eh?

hey, whatever confirms your bias buddy, it's all good with me.

Orlando is a haven for conspirators... some of my old buddies from HS are nucking futs when it comes to this crap... they didn't go to college either, hmmm.

I have a psychology degree, but I'll spare you the lengthy explanation as to how the above could be interpreted.

That is funny, dc is full of conspiracy theorists, matter of fact, i think something like 80% of the governments cases are/ have conspiracy in them....i.e. conspiracy to commit fraud, conspiracy to commit murder, etc, etc.

You see conspiracy's happen every second of every day, it's just our preconcieved notions and belief system tell us which ones we should believe.

Reso's preconcieved notions about people not being able to keep a secert(does he really know everyone in the world?), and our government not hurting it's own citizens will never allow him to look at the information in an unbiased way.

I'm glad you got a degree in psych florida, again that really means nothing about being open minded does it? so again, after much soul searching, you urself must have realized that some(99% as it would be stupid to believe on a planet with 6 billion people, you had an original thought) of your beliefs were passed onto you and that they were in correct.

WHAT BELIEFS DID YOU TOSS OUT AFTER YOU REALIZED THEY WERE FALSE?

Here is a couple good reads for those who dont know what we are talking about, and maybe help to show reso why he always watches the same news shows.
CONAN: Well, Brendan Nyhan is a health policy researcher at the University of Michigan. He recently published "When Corrections Fail: The Persistence of Political Misperceptions." That was in the June issue of the Journal of Political Behavior, and he joins us now from the studios of WUOM, Michigan Radio, our member station in Ann Arbor. Nice to have you with us today.

Mr. BRENDAN NYHAN (Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in Health Policy Research, University of Michigan): Thanks for having me.

CONAN: And when facts are readily available, why are they not enough to change people's minds?

Mr. NYHAN: Well, the problem is, you know, as human beings, we want to believe, you know, the things that we already believe. And so when you hear some information that contradicts your pre-existing views, unfortunately, what we tend to do is think of why we believed those things in the first place.

And, you know, so when, you know, we get these corrections, we tend to say I'm right, and I'm going to stick with my view. And the thing that my research, which is with Jason Reifler at Georgia State University, found is that in some cases, that corrective information can actually make the problem worse.

So some people who read Dana's article about immigration may actually have come away from it more strongly committed to the belief that crime has gone up along the border.

CONAN: And indeed are probably demanding his birth certificate.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. NYHAN: That's right.

CONAN: This is a phenomenon described as backfire. You say it's a natural defense mechanism to avoid cognitive dissonance.

Mr. NYHAN: That's right. You know, it's hard, it's threatening to us to admit that things we believe are wrong. And all of us, liberals and conservatives, you know, have some beliefs that aren't true, and when we find that out, you know, it's threatening to our beliefs and ourselves.

And so what we think happens is that the way people, you know, try to resolve this in some cases is to, you know, buttress that belief that they initially held, and, you know, there's a long line of research showing results like this.

CONAN: And again, we'd like to think of our brain as something that's been trained in, you know, Cartesian logic, when in fact, our brain is sort of hard-wired to leap to conclusions very quickly.

Mr. NYHAN: That's right
I love how certain outspoken members here try in earnest to completely delegitimized 9/11 and essentially suggest it was America's doings, and not Al Queda's.

If you think America was behind 9/11, you're a fool.

I feel better now.

You have actually done the same thing you accused runiningman of. Your post added nothing to the augment and calling people fools mite make you feel better but it but it doesn't really change anything. Let me remind you that it was you who posted a link to a story about Larry Silverstein arranging a controlled demolition on 9/11.

I appreciate your question, let me take a whack at this...Well I never understood the affects gender apartheid can have on young men until learning about the suicide bombers lives. Or that Egypt is where Al Qaeda was formed and Saudi Arabia was just given the label of hosting Al Qaeda. I never really understood how so many different circumstances such as religious extremism, gender apartheid, lack of acceptance of depression within a society combined can lead to the creation of terrorist camps equipped with individuals willing to commit suicide and kill many innocent lives.

While that was interesting, it was not a belief you had that you discarded after examanation and finding it false.

^Then I wasn't being clear. My belief was that these men were not too different from me, or maybe even guys I grew up with... but after having gotten to know them a little bit better, I recognized patters that indicate that they were raised very different from not only me, but different from most young men in the world.

I think he means something ground braking...such as that you will not be a top athlete with super model wife and a billion in the bank...or the whole society we live in is geared towards creating retarded idiots that will buy shit they don't need going into debt and becoming dependable slaves of the system they will not question out of fear for their employment... Or maybe I don't understand?
