Gerald CelenteThe man who predicted the 1987 stock market crash and the fall of the Soviet Union is now forecasting revolution in America, food riots and tax rebellions - all within four years, while cautioning that putting food on the table will be a more pressing concern than buying Christmas gifts by 2012. Gerald Celente, the CEO of Trends Research Institute, is renowned for his accuracy in predicting future world and economic events, which will send a chill down your spine considering what he told Fox News this week. Celente says that by 2012 America will become an undeveloped nation, that there will be a revolution marked by food riots, squatter rebellions, tax revolts and job marches, and that holidays will be more about obtaining food, not gifts. “We’re going to see the end of the retail Christmas….we’re going to see a fundamental shift take place….putting food on the table is going to be more important that putting gifts under the Christmas tree,” said Celente, adding that the situation would be “worse than the great depression”. “America’s going to go through a transition the likes of which no one is prepared for,” said Celente, noting that people’s refusal to acknowledge that America was even in a recession highlights how big a problem denial is in being ready for the true scale of the crisis.

Celente, who successfully predicted the 1997 Asian Currency Crisis, the subprime mortgage collapse and the massive devaluation of the U.S. dollar, told UPI in November last year that the following year would be known as “The Panic of 2008,” adding that “giants (would) tumble to their deaths,” which is exactly what we have witnessed with the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and others. He also said that the dollar would eventually be devalued by as much as 90 per cent.

The consequence of what we have seen unfold this year would lead to a lowering in living standards, Celente predicted a year ago, which is also being borne out by plummeting retail sales figures.

The prospect of revolution was a concept echoed by a British Ministry of Defence report last year, which predicted that within 30 years, the growing gap between the super rich and the middle class, along with an urban underclass threatening social order would mean, “The world’s middle classes might unite, using access to knowledge, resources and skills to shape transnational processes in their own class interest,” and that, “The middle classes could become a revolutionary class.” In a separate recent interview, Celente went further on the subject of revolution in America.
“There will be a revolution in this country,” he said. “It’s not going to come yet, but it’s going to come down the line and we’re going to see a third party and this was the catalyst for it: the takeover of Washington, D. C., in broad daylight by Wall Street in this bloodless coup. And it will happen as conditions continue to worsen. “The first thing to do is organize with tax revolts. That’s going to be the big one because people can’t afford to pay more school tax, property tax, any kind of tax. You’re going to start seeing those kinds of protests start to develop.”

“It’s going to be very bleak. Very sad. And there is going to be a lot of homeless, the likes of which we have never seen before. Tent cities are already sprouting up around the country and we’re going to see many more.”

“We’re going to start seeing huge areas of vacant real estate and squatters living in them as well. It’s going to be a picture the likes of which Americans are not going to be used to. It’s going to come as a shock and with it, there’s going to be a lot of crime. And the crime is going to be a lot worse than it was before because in the last 1929 Depression, people’s minds weren’t wrecked on all these modern drugs – over-the-counter drugs, or crystal meth or whatever it might be. So, you have a huge underclass of very desperate people with their minds chemically blown beyond anybody’s comprehension.”
The George Washington blog has compiled a list of quotes attesting to Celente’s accuracy as a trend forecaster.
“When CNN wants to know about the Top Trends, we ask Gerald Celente.” — CNN Headline News “A network of 25 experts whose range of specialties would rival many university faculties.” — The Economist “Gerald Celente has a knack for getting the zeitgeist right.” — USA Today “There’s not a better trend forecaster than Gerald Celente. The man knows what he’s talking about.”

 • CNBC “Those who take their predictions seriously … consider the Trends Research Institute.” — The Wall Street Journal “Gerald Celente is always ahead of the curve on trends and uncannily on the mark … he’s one of the most accurate forecasters around.” — The Atlanta Journal-Constitution “Mr. Celente tracks the world’s social, economic and business trends for corporate clients.” — The New York Times “Mr. Celente is a very intelligent guy. We are able to learn about trends from an authority.” — 48 Hours, CBS News “Gerald Celente has a solid track record. He has predicted everything from the 1987 stock market crash and the demise of the Soviet Union to green marketing and corporate downsizing.” — The Detroit News “Gerald Celente forecast the 1987 stock market crash, ‘green marketing,’ and the boom in gourmet coffees.” — Chicago Tribune “The Trends Research Institute is the Standard and Poors of Popular Culture.” — The Los Angeles Times “If Nostradamus were alive today, he’d have a hard time keeping up with Gerald Celente.” — New York Post
So there you have it - hardly a nutjob conspiracy theorist blowhard now is he? The price of not heeding his warnings will be far greater than the cost of preparing for the future now. Storable food and gold are two good places to make a start.

How about cutting out with the mass hysteria and continue business as usual (or best as possible)? All this panic is hurting the economy more than the current crisis would have on its own.

Chill, sit out the ride and hope for a tsunami or ebola'ish virus wiping out half of the world population.

welcome back kinky

listen folks, this is one of those things that you shuold consider, not wipe off as a doomsday scenario.

we are in a fiscal clusterfuck, for lack of a better word. and we elected someone who may very well make it worse. when the money dries up, that is when shit happens. plain and simple. its gonna take a massive public effort from the citizens to push the markets back, and no one wants to or is capable to.

frankly, i consider this to be a very viable option for the future. sadly of course, but it could happen.

Re: Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

but he (obama) may as well also make it better.

this is one major problem with the uk and now it seems to be taking hold of america too? everyone is being negative. this will get us nowhere. if we keep thinking bad, bad will happen. has no ones parents taught them this?

Re: Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

chloe, it isnt an issue of good feelings, or what his social plans are here.

its money. plain and simple. money.

his last year of policy talk generalities have the money holders scared shitless and angry.

dont just doubt me, ask questions. miroslav is a great mind on this as well.

there are a lot of reasons.

the majority of wealth is obviously held by a small %. this % is a smart group, they got to where they are for very good reasons. they are preparing for an asinine taxation plan to be implemented as the congress has a dominant majority. again, i am speaking from within the feild of finance and economics. this group is about to jump ship on the US markets. in the last month, using simple math, roughly 45% of its overall volume (money used within the market for trading). this is scary. now what happens when another large portion of the market departs and moves to strenghten another market.

another big factor, we are not even top ten in exporting goods. we have no capital base here any more. manufacturing superiority is now in asia for small goods, and europe for large scale investment goods (cars, science, research). these are the places that are going to see the US money flee.

now jump to next step. when this money leaves, where does that leave us? we have grossly lower taxation revenues. (which is what obama is basing his admin on, so its either dont do what he said, or spend in deficit even more, but with less revnue backing it out, thereby spending in deficit even faster than GW).

step 3, which may very well be step 1 or 2, depending on time. the failure and collapse of the auto industry in teh US, and its sister industries. the mass influx of unemployed citizens into the markets. first its the cars, then steel, then tech, then the industries that create composites. all losing jobs.

less spending in the market.

there are things that some people just cannot grasp, and i cant fathom why. different schooling? no care for harsh reality? i mean, its all fun and good to enjoy that art degree, but it doesnt help much overall. the US is officially out of the top ten in graduating scientists. we arent and havent been progressing. its about to catch up in a bad way. and keep in mind, the thing that started this... the mtg mess..... was forced into action way back when, when the liberal left order the banking industry to create equal oppurtunity homeownership for people who simply shouldnt be allowed to take on the debt.

miro, help me out here with some ideas, im kinda busy at work.

Re: Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

well i think people think negatively and they do negatively and thus things will be negative whether we have money or not.

my grandma when thru the great depression. she had 1 potatoe a day between 9 kids and 2 parents. but she always had a bright outlook about things. and they got thru it and they moved onto bigger and better things even while still in depression.

i think this guy is being negative. its great to bring ideas to light but fix them before telling everyone that the country is going to fall apart. or make ways to fix it. think of ideas on how to change it.

Re: Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

thats just it, bright outlooks dont solve things.

cautious planning and catering to money does.

how can a guy who makes a buttload of cash be happy about potentially having a 45% taxation on his wealth?

yea they actually do. without bright outlooks, new ideas and thinking, things never change because people act on fear, just as this message proves. hes just trying to scare people as they like to do. it may make people think but its defo not the best way to do it. people are just used to it because of the stupidity of the last 8 years.

Here's something for you to canoodle on for a bit. If the people with all the money are so worked up and terrified about Obama, why exactly did voters who earn in excess of $250K a year (and who, incidentally, are going to see an increase in taxes if Obama's plan goes through) vote in Obama's favor over McCain by 4 points?

Re: Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

ok so let's stop fretting over what he's saying and use our brains for a bit.

let's say that perhaps he will turn out to be right. But on what basis can he legitimately and credibly make this claim today? Just because we're in a recession? Because things are bad?

This strikes me as very irresponsible trend prediction. Real predictors of economic and social activity should actually look at the data and make predictions that are reasonable based on that data. That means that if there is a likelihood of an outcome, they will state that in a conservative light, expressing the evidence for and again, and providing some relative sense of probability. What they do not do is trumpet the sensationalist doomsday scenario for opportunistic personal benefit in the hopes that some gullible people will eat it all up without question.

I'm not saying that we're not living in a world of trouble. But even if he turns out to be right, it won't be because he is such a good researcher and forecaster...but I'm sure that the outcome is beside the point. In the mean time, he will have sold some books, given some interviews, etc. It seems to me that this guy really just wants to capitalize on the bad economy and help himself out to make a buck.

because we are 10-12 trillion in debt now after the bail-out

because the way the fed banking system was set up, we were born to lose so to speak.

because the way the government handles it's bizz, with the taxes and how they spend money(refer to the recent bail-out and the change of plans for the money, then factor in the news story the other day about a tax loop hole saving the banks 140 billion, while we pay them 700 bil)

the shady 9-11 investigation

there are many things the public is mad about, and as the debt grows higher along with inflation, so will the chances of dudes prediction comming 100% true.

My point is just that you have no idea what that probability actually is. And probably neither does that guy. You're both just shooting from the hip. Just about nobody in the world, and certainly not either of you, has the depth of economic expertise to be able to make any sort of strong, reliable and detailed predictions on our fate.

It takes little knowledge to be an extreme conspiracy theorist, like the people who carry around signs saying that the world is ending tomorrow with 100% certainty. What we really need is for more people around the world not to freak out and to roll up their sleeves and work together to figure out how to get things back on the right track. We did it after the Civil War. We did it after the First World War. We did it after the Depression. We did it after the Second World War. We could conceivably do it again.

In some sense, I would suspect that it is to a large degree unwritten as to how things will end up for the world. We could take multiple paths into the future depending on the collective actions we decide to take today and tomorrow. The future will be what we make it.

I gotta admit, hedge fund firms are helping lead the way into impoverishing everyone below upper middle class America. Funny though that most hedge fund firms have seen their value drastically decrease by percentages of 35-50%. They lead the way in being able to short companies enough that it's having a caustic effect on investing.

Re: Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

I am daily amazed at how many fancy themselves prophets, and think people just like to make gloomy forecasts so they can still feel good when the world collapses. It's not a very useful prediction imo because he doesn't offer up any solution (except perhaps to his clients at great expense). Noticing that a meteor is falling overhead is not even half the battle, and genius insight has greater uses than predicting a calamity, for instance preventing it. In other words, he doesn't get partial credit for seeing it coming.

I really don't see a revolution on the horizon, who is rebelling in this scenario? The only social faultlines capable of igniting a revolutionary war in the states are the gap between north and south that has lingered since the civil war (generally revolving around racial tension), and the ever widening divide between classes. Though both strong sources of social friction, these rifts do not run parallel and tend to erupt only in minor isolated incidents.

Depending on who you listen to, the wealthy are either preparing to make some extra sacrifices along with the rest of the nation, or stocking their lifeboats. I will set aside my usual pessimism and submit that they will accept some extra taxation in an effort to restore our economic stability, so long as they see the burden is not solely theirs to shoulder. Keeping a news story on every week about "X number of people getting foreclosed on last month" or "another plant closes in X-ville, 200 more unemployed" will hopefully enable them to be less concerned about closing loopholes. And then of course, who will be positioned to reap the fruits of the recovered economy? If there's one thing cycles of recession do efficiently, it's concentrating actual wealth into fewer hands. From that angle it makes perfect sense to ride out the storm.

ok we can go for a few more rounds with this... here goes!
so i guess that makes the probability zero then eh?
I never said the probability was zero. If you had actually BOTHERED TO READ WHAT I WROTE, you would have seen that I said that I agree with you that the probability is elevated these days.
yeah, what could he understand about economics eh?
Sorry, I don't believe everything I read - whether it is necessarily convenient to the case I want to make or not. What they don't ever tell you on his website is anything he was ever wrong about. Don't tell me that he is some sort of a perfect Oracle of the Future. It's easy to manipulate any scenario in the past to say that you were "right" about some aspect of it and then market that for your own personal fortune. What he said in this case was still a wild shot, and I don't have to turn off my brain and just accept what he says because his website says that he's always right.
ah, so in fact, there is no plan for america.
Maybe not. But why don't you look at a history book. When was there ever really "a plan"? Things happen by circumstance.
dont stop by my house looking for food if you dont at least prepare for what MAY happen.
You can stock your house with food, but how long do you think your stack of canned tuna is going to last you through this kind of a crisis? You must be joking. If this actually happens, you'll be just as fucked as the next person. So should we just all shoot ourselves now?

research dude, it pays off.

yes they list his mistakes as well as what he has been right about, for example, he said we would loose the first iraq war, and that kerry would beat bush in 2004.

so no, in fact his website does not make him out to be some kind of oracle of the future.

but simple 5 min research would of shown you that.
Maybe not. But why don't you look at a history book. When was there ever really "a plan"? Things happen by circumstance.
lol

history major here buddy.

btw, there has always been a plan to rule the world by one man/group of men/country.

need i list names of these people?it's been going on since the beginning of time.

things in world politics just dont happen, we did not just happen to get invovled in the world wars, we did not just happen to get invovled in vietnam, iraq, etc.

you would be better of to store grains and such instead of canned tuna, but again simple research will tell you that.

and to being as fucked as the next person, not really, the next person meaning you, having a rosy outlook on life and not being at all prepared, will more then likely not have any weapons,ammo,gold/silver,food, seeds, land to hide on,etc.

i'm not saying to stop living life and doing what ur doing, but to prepare for what could happen is always a smart choice.

^^^ Right Quasimodo, you've been singing the prepare song since the beginning of this thread, but what do you mean with that? Buy a shotgun and a few crates o' ammo to keep poor people off my lawn?
welcome back kinky
Thanks bro
i wasnt trying to be a dick.
No, you are one, no need to try ;)
lol

history major here buddy.

btw, there has always been a plan to rule the world by one man/group of men/country.
read this book: Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jarrod Diamond. I'm sure you've heard of it. If you've read it, re-read it. It will put the whole "plan" thing into perspective.
you would be better of to store grains and such instead of canned tuna, but again simple research will tell you that.

and to being as fucked as the next person, not really, the next person meaning you, having a rosy outlook on life and not being at all prepared, will more then likely not have any weapons,ammo,gold/silver,food, seeds, land to hide on,etc.
Look, I'm glad that you've taken the time to look that tuna thing up on Yahoo Answers, but you can't just "prepare" with some internet research for the fall of civilization, unless you're a one-of-a-kind combo of Rambo, McGuyver, and Mad Max. Which I will go out on a limb right now and guess that you're not.

When civilization falls, how long do you think your pile of grains is going to take you? Maybe you'll gain a few weeks? Maybe you'll be able to take down the first few rounds of people who attack you...until your ammo and supplies run low...and then you'll probably wind up fucked like most of the rest of us. More than likely, there will be a bloody, large-scale war going on at the time, so you'll probably be doubly fucked twice as soon. Congrats.

So stop acting like you're a visionary who is two steps ahead of the rest of us. If the ship really goes down, it will be mass chaos and we will all basically be in the same boat. Your fate will be highly unpredictable and your gold and your gun will be a very uncertain, temporary insurance policy.

If you want to "live off the grid", sleep with a shotgun, think civilization is about to fall at any moment, etc., go for it and have fun. But you should probably not be posting on the internet because "The Man" can track you on here and come after you.

Re: Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

Beware, therefore, of those who tell you that we have reached a bottom for risky financial assets. The same optimists told you that we reached a bottom and the worst was behind us after the rescue of the creditors of Bear Stearns in March; after the announcement of the possible bailout of Fannie and Freddie in July; after the actual bailout of Fannie and Freddie in September; after the bailout of AIG (nyse: AIG - news - people ) in mid-September; after the TARP legislation was presented; and after the latest G-7 and E.U. action.

In each case, the optimists argued that the latest crisis and rescue policy response was the cathartic event that signaled the bottom of the crisis and the recovery of markets. They were wrong literally at least six times in a row as the crisis--as I have consistently predicted over the last year--became worse and worse. So enough of the excessive optimism that has been proved wrong at least six times in the last eight months alone.

Re: Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

^^ Thank you for finally posting a serious predictive source. Roubini actually has been right on this mess more than others, and he has the real intellectual and professional credentials to back it up. I think he was also the most articulate and well-reasoned critic of the bailout, and if anyone's critical appraisal of it will turn up to be right, there is a good chance it will be his.

Of course this mess will get worse. You don't need to be Celente to predict that. Whenever there is a big disaster, there will always be that part of the spectrum that quickly proclaims the worst to be over, blah blah

btw, equities do hit bottom and move back upwards much sooner than the broader economic indicators - so whenever that rally comes in 2009 or 2010, it will happen sooner than the numbers you see coming at you in the news. If you have money to invest, beware waiting too long to get back in.

This "Chicken Little" mentality is rather amusing, but maybe I should invest in an umbrella in case the sky starts falling...
