Re: Obama in Europe

jenks, what si so looney about my point of view?

these two parties have utterly guitted the US political system, turning thier own party into a popularity vote as opposed to presenting viable intelligent candidates.

and yuou know what> its OUR OWN FAULT. we vote for these people, and there is a direct correlation to a few things in regards to the US politcal system over the last 30 years. education down drastically across the board, crime up, money wasted, etc.

so my opinion is, stop these two monopolistic groups from only offering two really relaly shitty solutions. think about it. first it was bush/gore, then bush/kerry, now mccain/obama. we owe it to ourselves to dilute thier power, which in turn, will enable our governmet to stop stalwarting itself against progression.

so, vote them all out, dilute thier power, and return it to the people that our founding fathers had in mind in philly, the citizens as a whole.

is that a clearer view? ask me via PM certain questions, i will attempt to be honest and not a douche as normal. ask jim or yao, i am capable, just usually not willing

Uh, shosh, did you check that link before copying it from World Net Daily and pasting it into your post? It shows Obama with a 9 point lead.:lol::lol:
a damn it, I had 2 windows open, posted the wrong one haha

good catch, you got me there
flame me well, but his speech in berlin was powerful. better than our past prezidantz by far. i consider myself to be a moderate, but i cant stress enough how much i revere the guy --for his ability to walk the walk in terms of principles and integrity. i mean common yall, lets be frank, his level of potency, striving and thinking for the sake of the greater whole, common and general good... fosters a defense mechinism of intrepidating invulerability, and it towers over the haters.. --hate stems from jellousy and envy. likewise, the attacks aimed at him from the multimyriads of his appointed enemies simply form a bulwark around his 'perimiter' and when the time comes he will send only one trushot and devistate his enemies' slander etc. the man is on fire. and all the more power to him. i may not agree with his concrete policies, but what he stands for, and how he conducts himself, is the mark of a true man. furthermore, i really like what he meant with his leaked prayer as well, and he better not forgoe what he wrote or i will be pisst. he represents the call and vigour of the future. maclame will merely hand over the 'baton.' im not sure which of the 3 canidates i will vote for, but the crunch time towards election will be intense --free and decisive choices will be made. forreal.
Obama is a democrat. Go look back at African-American voting patterns over the last 20 years and see if you notice a correlation. A large, large percentage of black voters tend to vote democrat -- and why wouldn't they? What in the world does the GOP offer if you're black? Bush didn't even bother to address the NAACP for 6 years during his presidency. What better way to say, you know, I really don't care about the issues that affect you.
sometimes you're good for a great laugh. Because, you know, look at all the Democrats have done over the last quarter century that has done anything to help them get out of the ghetto they live in.

Re: Obama in Europe
we all know he cant speak worth shit without a prompter...
OK, first off, that's demonstrably false. I've seen him 5 times now, and he's never used a prompter. He does for big speeches and that's about it.

I've got no problem with someone using a prompter, though. Bush does it -- complete with inline pronunciation guides -- and I think most modern politicians have come to find them to be a helpful tool. In fact, I saw the reason why people use them this morning when McCain was giving a prepared speech (as opposed to the eleventy-billioneth 20-person "Town Hall" style meeting), but he was not using a teleprompter and was instead reading off a piece of paper. It reminded me of a 3rd grade book report -- he'd look up for one or two words and offer an awkward facial gesture of some sort, but he otherwise read directly off the paper. It was really, really bad. Hey Sen. McCain -- if there's one piece of technology that you really ought to get down pat, it's this one. Don't be frightened by the words that appear to float in midair, it will be OK. Seriously, if the GOP convention speech is anything like the speech he gave the night Obama clinched the nomination, it's going to be terrifically ugly.

As for the fact that Obama isn't as fluid speaking off the cuff as he is when giving a prepared speech, I view that as a product of something truly unique that Obama does when in question and answer sessions -- he actually thinks about the question that's been asked, and answers it. You can often see the thought process in action, and it definitely slows him down at times. I'd much prefer that to the normal MO, though, where a politician: (1) hears a question, (2) quickly runs through a series of prepared talking points to find the one that's closest to the subject matter of the question, (3) delivers a response, regardless of whether it actually answers the question.

I'm not saying the Democrats have done a bang up job, I'm just saying that the GOP hasn't even made an effort to court the black community. When's the last time you heard a republican politician other than Mike Huckabee even bother to talk about things like poverty, social justice, or other issues that tend to impact the black community more than the rest of the country? They don't even try. If I were black, I might not be elated about the Dems' performance, but the Republican ticket would be a non-starter.

#1058112Post 87 of 105

Re: Obama in Europe

what makes social justice, poverty, and the like a black-only issue? those issues, i think, have been, up until this administration, dealt with. the problem is, the lack of any understanding of government, american history, and economics. they've been promised quick fixes and they'll settle for nothing less.

FFS man, they were still calling for reparations this millenium!!!!

I also want to point out tha some of the bigger issues affecting blacks, particulary the drug war, have the biggest and strongest opponents in republican party in congress, and the libertarian party. and i wont' go into a diatribe about tax breaks and shit like that.

so long as people think that race matters more than merits, this problem will continue to be cyclical.

Re: Obama in Europe
what makes social justice, poverty, and the like a black-only issue?
Had a feeling someone would throw me some crap for that comment. That was not intended to be the point of the post, the point of the post is that republicans have made no effort to reach out to the black community, which ought to be beyond serious dispute. As to whether poverty is exclusively a black issue, of course it isn't, and I never said anything to the contrary. I believe what I said is that poverty tends to impact blacks more than the rest of the country, and unless something has changed in the very, very recent past, that is not a statement of opinion, that is a statement of fact. Look at the percentage of people that live below the poverty line that are black, and that conclusion is obvious. That wasn't intended to be, nor should it be, a controversial statement.

Same thing with the admittedly amorphous "social justice." When you compare the sentencing for blacks and whites convicted of the same crimes, it's hard not to notice a discrepancy.

This is all beside the point, though. You seem to think that the Republicans and Libertarians have some ideas that would benefit the black community, and I'm not disagreeing -- in fact, they have the opportunity to do something about the drug war right now, let's see if they actually follow through and vote the right way on that House bill re marijuana. I'm just saying that the outreach between the GOP and the black community is shit, and that is not a new phenomenon. A lot of blacks are voting for Obama, but most of these voters would have voted for whomever the Democratic candidate was. FFS, McCain voted against making MLK's birthday a holiday -- he's since changed his position on that, but that's not exactly the best way to ingratiate yourself to African-Americans. If the GOP has such great ideas for the black community, they need to work on spreading that message, because it isn't getting through.

Re: Obama in Europe

just my opinion, im not going to argue anythign about it

the only real solution to all the social injustice that people complain about is for all parties to realize that cultures need to be respected in common areas. i.e. the barkley analogy of a black in baggy pants and a doo rag going on a job interview when they just interviewed the white kid in teh suit.

im wrangling around putting it into words, but the bible thingof "teach a man to fish , feed him for a lifetime" really applies to what the US government does. the liberal end usually, not always tends to give the fish to teh person, while the conservatives tend to tell the party in question to learn how to fish, they just do nothing while the person is trying to learn, nor do they teach them

clearly, the last 16 years are moving away from this, as they are now simply being ignored, (personally, i dont see the need to cater to a culture. they should be fighting for themselves to integrate into an existing culture, and honestly, everyone is on equal footing in regards to law anyway). we lifted every prohibitive law out there, now its time for those people to step up.

the largest one i can think of is schooling in poor and minority communities, but this has less to do with gov't than it does with teachers not wanting to deal with these areas. my sister teaches for NYC school system in a really really bad area. her car has been robbed and trashed after disciplining a student, the kids are complete little shits, and first hand i witnessed kids telling her to fuck off. clean up your neighborhoods and progress forward.

Re: Obama in Europe

ok, i'll save my dissent (except for the fact that there are twice as many impoverished whites than there are impoverished blacks, 2:1 basically), and ask....what exactly could republicans (or libertarians) do to engage the self-contained black community?

Re: Obama in Europe

^^^

thats kind of how i see it and it bugs me that theyre still the ones bitching. here's a little analogy: take a white person, typical white trash: drives shitty shitty shitty car, lives in a trailer, eats shit, has no job, lives off welfare, dresses like shit. now, how many white people want to be like that person or think that's cool? now take a person of color: drives a shitty shitty car, lives in the ghetto, in the ghetto (insert cartman voice), eats shit, lives off welfare and foodstamps, dresses with jeans to their ankles, do-tags, etc. now, how many black people want to be like that person or think that's cool? im not racist or trying to be racist, but im sick and tired of people complaining when they arent doing shit. you want a better life for yourself, go get it, dont wait for the govt to give it to you while you are getting high off your ass and living off our taxes.

In 2006, which were the most recent numbers I could find, the US was approximately 13% black, 74% white. If poverty wasn't disproportionately affecting blacks, you'd expect the ratio to be about 5:1. There are lots more white people to start with, so it's not particularly surprising to find them at the top of pretty much any list like this.

What can republicans do to court the black vote? Probably anything would be a good start. Head over the McCain website or the GOP site and direct me to the page where they discuss how they intend to address the issue of poverty in this nation. People don't even ask republicans what their position on poverty is anymore, because you know the answer is so obvious.

Also, Bush declined invitations to speak to the NAACP for the first 6 years of his presidency. It's not as if he declined an invite from Farrakhan (sp?) to address the Nation of Islam, this is a large and well-established group that is dedicated exclusively to issues germane to African Americans. He couldn't have been more clear about his lack of desire to win over black voters if he'd mooned them.

ive done my share of getting high and other shit, now i prefer to keep my intelligence. what i meant by that is the ones who just sit around all day getting high and being ghetto instead of getting a job and/or an education.

second, most of those old people had jobs in their youth and contributed to social security. im referring to those who all they do is live off the government when they could be getting and education and/or a job

either you knew what i meant by those and chose to bring out the points for the lulz or you're too high to comprehend my points. This new perverted Republicanism that Bush and his goons have created... the only thing they care about is money. it cant be more obvious. they would sacrifice thousands of American lives just to further their own bank account... which they have done. it is sickening.

come on dude, do you really think any politician or bureaucrat cares about anything else but money? thats all they do when they are in power and after they are in power, perpetuate their wealth... democrats or republicans alike. dont dont start jumping and telling me that you know obama cares about you because i assure you he cares first about his wallet, and so does mccain. nobody gets into politics just because they want to make the world or country or county or city or state, etc better, theyre all in it because they are money and power hungry. and before you reference the few exceptions, remember that all exceptions do is confirm the rules

Know why he didn't have an answer ready to go? Because people don't expect republicans to do anything for the black community except hand them a set of bootstraps. No need to have that information anywhere near the front of the gray matter for easy access.

...And if you give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he wasn't honestly struggling to think of something that he's done for blacks, then he looks like a doddering old man. Either way, not a great moment for him.

In fairness, McCain did ultimately answer the question. Unfortunately, it was demonstrably false.
