Probably won't escalate into anything serious... but definitely not a good move....

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

what will be more interesting is if iran pulls the typical middle eastern bullshit and refuses to hand them over citing a law within thier own nation and some other BS. then the reaction of britian.

add in the fact that they openly said they will illegally continue thier nuke work... maybe the UN will act without the US(for once)

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

they did this once already, and handed them back over to britain...

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

I'm guessing they'll hand em back once they have sufficiently played footsie with the UK for a minute or two. They're not dumb...they just want to piss the Brits off and demonstrate to the Europeans that they've got some balls.

Does this give us the right to carpet bomb iran and invade them?

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

goddamn. they are really gonna screw shit up in the middle east, just out of spite.

the oil market is getting hurt, relations are dying, when in fact, iran could do some real good if they actually tried to help as opposed to stir the pot, and iran keeps yelling at the US when we havent done shit to them outside of agree to the sanctions. they are begging for a fight, no one wants to give it to them, so they keep stepping on toes, whether it be through sending IRG agents into iraq to help the "insurgents", or this.

in reality, i hope they take a better stance and release them and step up to help iraq, as they can potentially have a truly great effect on the nation's long term peace.

in my opinionated head, i hope the EU lays the law down and takes the soldiers. send in a battle carrier group to the gulf, and start sinking the iranian navy one ship at a time. let em know that the world at large will stand up against them. and at this point, with everything from pakistan to gaza, maybe its time for everyone else to walk in the door and straighen out the house known as the middle east.

but damn, can they cut the shit, let this crap pass, and make a bit of olive branch concessions like nuke work monitors, maybe a positive showing in iraq, and cut the calls for "death to jews".

these assholes just dont get it.

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

The war in Iran will begin in April I think.. The government will say they are trying to negotiate over the next month and then they will go in saying they did everything they could to prevent this.

#831590Post 10 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

i just wish we could all abandon all the crap and get along and help each other. but nope, people want power, some want to kill, others like iran just want press and to let everyone know "we're still here". the world at large would actually help and benifit them if they just dropped the bullshit and acted nicely.

eh, that section of the world is fucked, just look at the riots in yemen the other day. they overreact to everything, and just cant realize that people are different.

sadly, the EU will probably show solidarity and stick it up iran's patoot by either putting an economic stranglehold on them, or going the distance and taking the soldiers back through a military intervention.

edit i wonder if Iran is extending the proper rights to these boys. bible handed to them with gloves on, proper friday lent meal, right to see a preist and pray, etc.

ummm wait i know the answer.

#832133Post 11 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

^^ Do you not mean the UK,not EU, last i knew they were British Soldiers

#832138Post 12 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

the EU pledged solidarity on this. good for them. a united europe is better for everyone. if the UK ends up being forced to play a military hand, the EU has said they will back them. this happened on Day 1 when merkel said to iran they are against this action.

#832149Post 13 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

Talk is cheap. Let's see if they really mean it.

#832204Post 14 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

if they dont relase the soldiers by friday, britain should simply go get em. fly an entire sqaudran right in, get the boys, and destroy the only refinery in iran on the way out, and level a few airfeilds and naval yards while your at it.

stop pussy footing, and stand up for yourself. weakness invites aggression. and the middle eastern people are the assholes who shit on everyone. evidenced by the last millenium's worth of violence over some asshole named mohammed who needed his warrior tribes to shape up. shame.

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

The fact that this is even getting a great amount of attention is proof of the sort of hypocritical stance the US (and the West in general at times) seems to take with countries deemed "our enemies." The US has been seizing "enemy combatants" from other countries for years now, sending them to the Guantanamo for "coercive interrogation" with little to no outrage from anyone in the West. Iran does it to Britain, and all of a sudden it's called out as intolerable. I don't think the West has a principled leg to stand on here.

Iran has shown over and over again there willingness to engage in negotiations. It's the West that has refused negotiations in favor of sanctions (read: punishment for not doing what we say). At the end of the day, the policy with Iran has nothing to do with terrorism or nonproliferation. The policy at the end of the day is regime change. In 1953, the US initiated a CIA coup to overthrow Iran's then freely elected, National ist government in favor of a Western friendly monarchy. Iran and the West were buddy buddy during the proceeding decades following, even helping Iran initiate it's nuclear energy program back in 1957. In 1976, the Ford Administration (w/then Chief of Staff Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld) were all about Iran developing nuclear energy. Then, in 1979, after massive protests, the brutal monarchy was driven out in favor of a popular theocratic government. The West has refused to recognize Iran's theocracy ever since it was installed with popular support in the late 70's. There is no substantial evidence supporting accusations of Iran pursuing nuclear weapons. Look at the actual evidence. Check the IAEA inspector reports. Iran's nuclear program is not illegal. Iran is a member of the NPT and are guaranteed the right to develop peaceful nuclear energy.

Why can't we engage Iran with proper diplomacy instead of playing around with the same sort of diplomacy (or lack thereof) we used with Iraq?

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

Before starting to insult other people's religions, people should make sure that the soldiers where really in the Iraqi waters and not on the Iranians, this is a negotiation game played by the Iranians in these difficult time, IMO it will end peacfully very soon.

Surprised DTLV hasn't posted. Must be too busy planning the invasion ;)

Just asking.

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

Morgan, maybe i misunderstood the question there; however, regardless as to whether any of the 15 are Jewish, Muslim or whatever religion they practise, they are members of the British forces and Britain must take what ever action she feels necessary for their release.

#832536Post 21 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

Dipolmatic solution me thinks, miltliary options are all out, unless the amercians want to assist. Iran just posturing i suspect, very bold move though an incursion to Iraqi waters.

bot its nice to see that iran made the woman wear a burka. wonderful part of the world with tons of respect for other peoples.

#832672Post 23 of 94

Thats not a Burqaa, its called Veil, the Burqa is what covers all the face and it only allow you to see the eyes.

#832716Post 24 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

i dont care what its called, it shows how little respect the middle east has for the outside world. they scream about some silly cartoons, throw fits about someone shitting on a koran, but never, not once, show to others what they demand from everyone.

lets see in the last 3 days alone, 2 nuns were killed, a madam was kidnapped and is now locked in a mosque listening to jihadist music, they forced kidnapped soldiers to wear garb, gilad shilat is still no where to be found, rioting in paris, and shias and sunnis are still killing each other at a rate of 2 dozen per afternoon. the whole region is nothing short of animals. and everyone else is bearing the brunt of the animals.

#832750Post 25 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

I know that you don't care, I am just trying to tell you what's the diffrence between things so next time people would at least read what you write, and think that you make things out of your mind. where did you get all this information about the killings and kidnappings from ? and what in hell does riots in Paris have todo with Islam, seriously man you are loosing it.

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

you keep saying its about islam, i say its about middle eastern people. yes they happen to hold another stupid religion at the forefront and abuse it to utilize mruder at a rate that makes NYC or LA riot times look peaceful. there are islamic people here that are fine. they show qualities that humanity embraces. the ones there dont at all. animals.

thr riots in france are being perpetrated by people of arab descent and north african descent. hence middle eastern people.

#832822Post 29 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

Again wrong , North Africa is not in the middle east, and riots commited in France are perpetrated by Black Africans and arabs from North Africa, Hence not middle eastern people, don't get all mixed up.
Again wrong , North Africa is not in the middle east, and riots commited in France are perpetrated by Black Africans and arabs from North Africa, Hence not middle eastern people, don't get all mixed up.
ok, so...the people in North Africa are not in the Middle East. I think we all agree on that, and so does Sean if you actually read what he wrote. I'm no expert on where the Moors and other Islamic people in Africa/Europe came from. But if Islam is from the Middle East, and the Moors and their African/European descendants are Islamic...then where else did they pick it up from except through some original contact with Middle Eastern people and ideas? This is just basic logic at work here.

#832945Post 31 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

Lets not get carried away here...not all things that came from the middle east were bad! After all the middle east is often called the cradle of todays civilization...there is even a theory now explored that the earliest forms of democracy actually pre-date Greece and come from the middle east. So relax people...not all Middle Eastern products should be scraped...they make damn fine opium!

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

I found it quite amusing that the initial position the Iranian goverment gave for the British ship was 1.7 nautical miles inside Iraqi waters. But of course, when this was pointed out, they changed the position.

#833147Post 33 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

like i said. typical middle eastern bullshit.

and in regards to the north african / arab comparisons. the arabs have overrun the northern end of arica and are wrecking shit there today as we speak. sudan, somalia, eritia, ethiopia. all problems with arab militias, whom are also the standard islamic asshats pushing thier rule on people who dont want it. yes, they share an african heritage, but the shitstorm is wholly based within the arab/islam vs everyone conflict.

here, google news items for the border areas of the circle. most of it will be about violent deaths resulting from middle eastern based peoples pushing thier violent idealogy,

oh btw, when the coalition forces capture someone, our citizen scream that they need fair trials, and proper treatment under international agreement. but there.....

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

How to stand up to Iran:
MEMBERS STAND UP TO IRAN

By DICK MORRIS

Published on TheHill.com on March 27, 2007.

How should the United States respond to the proliferation of deadly roadside explosives in Iraq manufactured and developed in Iran?

And how to react to the capture by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard of 15 British Marines and sailors in Iraqi territorial waters?

What should we do about Iran’s continued refusal to halt its nuclear enrichment program even in the face of twice-imposed United Nations sanctions?

We should pass — and the president should sign — the Dodd-Lantos bill mandating economic sanctions on any foreign company that aids Iran’s energy industry. Domestic companies are already prohibited from such investments.

This Democratic bill, cosponsored by Sen. Chris Dodd (Conn.) and Rep. Tom Lantos (Calif.), is a bold piece of legislation that strikes at the core of Iranian vulnerability.

And, in a singular act of courage and dedication to principle, Republican presidential candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter (Calif.) has added his name to the legislation as a cosponsor. Hunter’s action is particularly admirable since the bill is designed to force the Bush administration to impose sanctions passed in the 1990s but disregarded by both presidents, Clinton and Bush, ever since.

The Dodd-Lantos bill would omit the national security waiver Clinton used twice to stop the sanctions from taking effect. The waiver was inserted at the insistence of then-National Security Advisor Sandy Berger (before he started stealing documents in his socks). For his part, President Bush has not even waived the law, he just hasn’t applied it at all.

The original sanctions legislation provided a variety of punishments that the president had to impose on foreign companies that invest in Iran’s oil and gas industries. These ranged from barring their participation in underwriting Treasury issues to prohibiting them from receiving export-import financing, as well as certain government contracts. The sanctions were so effective that they triggered howls of outrage from European governments that objected to what they called “extraterritorial” assertions of American power.

Presumably neither Bush nor Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice wants to rekindle the war of words with European governments, so they have not applied the sanctions that remain on the books. They probably worry that to do so would shatter Western unity in the face of Iranian aggression and the threat of nuclear-weapons development.

But as Dodd, Lantos, and Hunter all realize, once the president and the secretary of state are stripped of the ability to waive the sanctions, they become a potent tool to stop European companies like Royal Dutch Shell, BNP, Total and Repsol from helping Iran tap its massive oil and gas reserves. The Bush administration people can plead that Congress is forcing their hand and foreign governments would just have to live with the consequences. Like the old Jackson-Vanik Amendment, which forced presidents to deal harshly with the Soviet Union as long as it barred Jewish emigration, the Dodd-Lantos bill would be a very effective tool in bringing Iran to heel.

We tend to overlook how vulnerable Iran is to economic pressure. Blessed with the second largest oil reserves in the world — after Saudi Arabia — its petroleum production has, nevertheless, dropped from 6 million barrels per day under the shah to a mere 3.9 million today. As a result of surging domestic demand — growing at a rate of 10 percent annually — and falling production, Iranian oil and gas revenues are dropping from $55 billion in 2006 to a projected $44 billion this year. Since these funds account for four-fifths of total government revenues, this falloff directly translates into cutbacks on the government subsidies and social programs the government uses to maintain its slender margin of support among the largely young, unemployed, and restive population. Since less than half of the Iranian population is Farsi and there is no ethnic cohesion to hold the nation together, subsidies like that which keeps gasoline at 35 cents per gallon are vital cogs in the regime’s bid for stability.

The U.S. can undermine the regime’s ability to rule and trigger its overthrow by imposing tough economic sanctions, and nothing makes more sense than the legislation Dodd, Lantos, and Hunter are urging on the Congress.
Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

this is getting more comical by the day. have you read some of the letters those captured soldiers have 'written'?

anyways, Iran is saying that the UN is getting involved in what should only be a bilateral issue. this, just after they demand Britain to apologize for entering thier waters, which they clearly didn't.

what WILL they come up with next??

#836235Post 36 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

Seriously. What a joke. Like this these statements and :hollow:apologies:hollow: are supposed to mean something? They're intended to be humiliating i suppose, but that's not even working.

Gotta wonder sometimes what sort of logic flows through the head of Amenyblowjob.

EDIT : holy shit ! i just read the second letter. wow iran must be writing these things and holding guns behind the camera.

"i am a sacrifice for my nations policy"...

why do i feel they didnt create those lines. fucking middle east. should be bombed to glass.

#836288Post 39 of 94

Re: Iran captures British Forces at Gunpoint

yeah...these people are complete jackasses. It's great that they can get a bunch of their guys and hijack a group of UK soldiers who are on an mission that Iran knows does not concern them and then force these ridiculous "apologies" out of them. Very dignified. I bet Jimmy Carter is crying right now. buncha fucking tools...

Interestingly enough, I notice Bululu is very silent on this these days...
