CNN's comments are leaning a bit towards favouring the religious part of the people, but loking at the last 2000 years, one does have to wonder what the most striking impact of religion on this planet has been. Violence certainly makes a good chance of ending high on the charts I have to say...

Re: The New Atheists

aethiests are assholes who found a problem and scapegoated. at least the ones who vocally share the idea of aethiesm. faith, when not being hijacked by a towel head, is a great thing.

Re: The New Atheists

I enjoyed a good laugh reading in that article that they think of themselves as the new minority group.

Rubbish.

Re: The New Atheists

anyone notice that, for the most part, aethiests are spiteful cunts. i was just driving b4 and i love how they took the jesus fish symbol, and put legs on it and call it darwin. i mean comon, who made that up? someone who was held in the vatican city jail for badmouthing god?

#750699Post 5 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

lol, i think hat one is funny. I'm not all about this minority-group attitude, but yes...I am actually opposed to organized religion: man gets corrupted too easily, and there has been to much abuse of power in religion and deifnitely too many victims of that in the past.

#750737Post 6 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

^I agree man gets corrupted easily but in my view that is not a reason to ban organized religion.

Re: The New Atheists

elton john should shut the fuck up IMO.

everything is seen through filtered and opinionated eyes. and usually, the most opinionated and filtered views come from those with the loudest mouths.

since the advent of self governence by people, instead of church, what has the church done to hurt civilization? not much, the only place where religion is fucking things up is you know where, and every country there has religion saying too much.

#750759Post 8 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

see though how intense you are getting over religion. that is the problem. people are killing each other based on their religion.

religion is better when it is kept in the house and out of politics IMO. I am religious but I don't push my faith on anyone else.

#750760Post 9 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

Great observation Sean. One can see how leaders would be corrupted even more when the have both political and religious power.

#750769Post 10 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

wow, im intense. thanks!

but hardly a ''missionary'' here. keep it to yourself IMO> but the few morons who scream about it like homo john over there in the UK, shoudl shut up. whatever you follow, whereever you follow, it does vast amounts of good in society. from housing homeless here in NY, to building homes in africa. even the mosques in the ME, provide vital services to ppl . im just saying that ppl like elton john hate religion b/c it disagrees with thier life. in particular, gays have a problem because no religion really condones the gay lifestyle. so you know what? shut up and accept that while you might beleive in god, the church doesnt accept you, they dont have to. but you are entitled to follow the bible, koran, whatever on your terms, so keep it to yourself.
amen
is that suposed to be ironic, two words, religious crusades btw i cant belive how many people in here seem to use cnn is there primary online sourse for news, i think that sould be of more concern

#750783Post 13 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

lmao, we currently have threads where various ppl trash every news network, i guess everyone is wrong.

and please, for the love of everything good, stop bringing up the crusades. only one of the 4 was offensive in nature, and frankly, there wasnt anything resembling government in the period. it was chruch and royalty that ruled. different times, different people. no media, no idea of self governence, no voting.

its like blacks blaming whites for slavery at every step. we know its wrong, but it was a different period in time where no one knew better and the basic moral systems in the world were different.

#750789Post 14 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

ok then what about morals and ethics preached by people who on one side say gay people are going to hell and on the other side hire gay prostitues and smoke meth.

and what about choir boys and the catholic priests

whatever i jsut dont like cnn and fox news i dont car what other popel think

and im sorry if you think the collapes of the Ottoman empire as
offensive in nature,
to you

#750794Post 15 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

only playing devils advocate here. personally, the ppl who under the mask of the church do things like molest kids, well, the only valid response is jail. they are sick and vile.

but.... put it in perspective... how many ppl do the churches employ?????? i mean, we arent saying islam is bad b/c a small number of clerics are out to destroy isreal. i dont automatically link it to a murdering army b/c al sadr has an army.

the molestations were BLOWN up, at fault to the chruch, b/c they were covered up as opposed to the church respecting law and handing pedophiles over to the law. if they came out loud, and condemmed them and let the police jail them right off, the PR disaster would have been avoided.

the guy who had the whore and meth..... he is vile and clearly was using his position to make money, its rare that the evangelical leaders are actually in it for faith. for every one of these asshats, you have 1000 ppl like billy grahem and the rabbi gellman, ie, ppl who dont ask much, advocate the good in ppl. its the morons like pat robertson who use ppl's faith to brainwash and call for asassinations that are evil.

#750795Post 16 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

whatever that last edit in meant, i dunno.

but what i meant, to clarify if we arent on the same page, is that the crusades were responses to wars hitting the holy lands and europe. and they were all before the ottoman empire even began. even the later small battles that were classified as crusades but not actually a full blown church sponsored war were 20 years before the empire began.

#750798Post 17 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

yea your right, i grew up in a church and of course its always the few that make a bad name for the rest, personally "love they neighbor" and "do unto others as you wish done upon you" are what get over looked when people talk about religion.

but i still have a problem when ethics morality and religion get bundled up as one single entity when government and churches for that matter make decitions for the masses

#750802Post 18 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

how about. you are free to do as you please, unless. you are harming another person through actions, fraud or help.

or

you are cool until you provide otherwise.

i find these two rules keep me out of trouble and generally are a good way to live.

#750808Post 19 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

Sean, you're on quite a rant here... ;)

Truthfully, there's quite a bit of truth to the article whether other people prefer to hear it or not...I have to listen to every fu&king person in this country tell me about god and religion like they fu&kin own it and "god forbid" I even suggest that there is no god (pun intended ;) ). Why the hell do the religious get a free pass on imposing their ideas on the rest of the population? Where the hell is seperation of church and state and tolerance, some of the founding principles of our country?
anyone notice that, for the most part, aethiests are spiteful cunts. i was just driving b4 and i love how they took the jesus fish symbol, and put legs on it and call it darwin. i mean comon, who made that up? someone who was held in the vatican city jail for badmouthing god?
As if religious zealots haven't done more spiteful shit? What the hell gives you the right to start generalizing what atheists are or aren't? Am I a "spiteful cunt"? I know plenty of atheists and rarely do I find them to be spiteful. So what give's your own venemous spiteful rant against atheists any validity? Good for you, you believe in god, so everyone has to jump on the same train with you. They're not even allowed to express their differing beliefs?

I don't believe in god, but because I can't prove that god doesn't exist, nor prove that god does exist, I give everyone an equal amount of respect in terms of their beliefs. Is that spiteful?

I'll put up with quite a number of your rants, but when you start generalizing like an ignorant bastard I'm gonna call you out on it.

P.S. The sad pathetic thing is that I even have to think about whether or not to post this rant of my own here, for fear of offending too many people, but as far as political beliefs go I have way more leeway in what to write before it offends and people are more tolerant. Religion does not have a monopoly on thought...get over it!

Re: The New Atheists

you are a spiteful cunt. (PS, you where im coming from)

and you damn sure know i put you in the ''good category''

i said in the first thread ''keep it to yourself'' and those are the people i admire more than the pat robertson's in the owrld.

EDIT ::PS, how bout the jets. woo haa.

Re: The New Atheists

PS i have been laughing at my own threads this morning. it was boring so i was garnering conversation.

#750814Post 22 of 133

Re: The New Atheists

It's the generalizing I have a problem with. If we're gonna single out the fanatics on both sides as spiteful cunts, rather than calling out all atheists as spiteful cunts, I have no problem then.

But I ask, are you suggesting both atheists and religious people keep it to themselves? If that's the case, then I have no problem, but I know I damn well get tired of hearing just about every damn religious person in the world trying to preach their views on me. If only they knew how to shut up

Re: The New Atheists

you're damn right i say keep it to yourself.

im most cases of discussions i have about it, coming from a catholic family and abandoning the ''rigid'' idea of catholicism in favor of the older, smaller religions ideals of ''good vs evil'' and peace, i have seen the religious ones moreso disappointed when you talk faith, as opposed to talking to aethiests, whom, and this doesnt include you, seem to actually have a vengence against religion. hence the elton john example. you damn sure know if whatever religion he was born into supported gay rights, he wouldnt have said to ban religion as a whole. when you have religious conversations with them, you tend to be blasted for having faith. the other way around, you come across the situation far more rarely.

you became an aethiest by learning the history if im recalling our chat on 14th st. and you learned the ins and outs and the bullshit. you didnt become an aethiest b/c the jewish faith doesnt accept lawyers who live in NY.

Re: The New Atheists
christians are never goign to keep to themself they are all about preaching
and that's the problem, atheists like the one in the article have.

you see if we tolerate that religious preaching, but not the atheists saying anything, then the majority is marginalizing atheists, who are the minority.
