Protest update...
There were several other small protests across Afghanistan on Wednesday, including one in Kabul. Hundreds of university students, including women, marched peacefully through the capital, chanting "Death to the Danish! Death to Americans!" More than 1,000 people also rallied Wednesday in Muslim-majority Bangladesh's capital, burning Danish and Italian flags. There were no immediate reports of violence.
Now here's a possibly very stupid question, but I'll just go ahead and ask it anyway...

WHAT THE FUCK DOES AMERICA HAVE TO DO WITH ANY OF THIS?!???!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Another excuse to blame America for the world's problems. This shit is getting pretty tired.

Re: More cartoon protests

Seriously though, I'm over it. We have absolutely nothing to do with this current situation and still dumbasses are flooding the streets chanting "Death to America!!!"

You know what?? Death to blind religous fanatics who get so bent out of shape for being labeled as "violent," then respond to a FUCKING CARTOON by rioting and shit for days on end. Way to make yourselves look really stupid. :lickmyha:

Re: More cartoon protests

and now they are running a cartoon showing hitler and anne frank in bed..."write this in your diary.." and having a contest to see who can come up with the best holocaust cartoon... a man killed because he "mocked" islam in a movie...and now the country is bringing back its nuclear program. fuck.

this whole thing is so sad. wtf kind of world is this? these people are stuck in 8th grade or something.

And how many riots and demonstrations are you going to see about it.....NONE. We do not look for any reason to take to the streets in protest, setting fires, burning flags and stupid shit like that.

So they feel the need to "come back" now with cartoons depciting something that is sensitive to the West?? Cool, you children. Are you going to run and tell mommy when some Western "martyrs" suicide bomb your stupid asses??

It's funny...but didn't the president of Iran say that the Holocaust never happened?? What IDIOTS!!!!!

Re: More cartoon protests

lol

it's all turning into one big childish fight now. I'm gonna sit back and watch everyone rant and get crazy about, in a few weeks, maybe 2 months, everyone will be back to their everyday business. At first i was a bit afraid this might turn things for the worse, but instead it's getting more ridiculous by the day, and I have more and more trouble taking this shit serious.

Re: More cartoon protests

The only thing I have a problem taking serious is a religion that says it's OK to act like a moron because something "offends" you. I get offended by shit everyday, do you see me in the streets chanting "Death to my job"??

They're still going...

After Friday Prayers Muslims Again Protest Muhammad Cartoons Friday, February 10, 2006

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Tens of thousands of Muslims demonstrated against the drawings of the Prophet Muhammed after Friday prayers, some shouting anti-American slogans and burning Danish flags to vent their rage.

Rallies in Asia were the largest on the continent since demonstrations throughout the Muslim world erupted over the drawings first published in a Danish newspaper in September and recently reprinted in other European publications. One depicted the prophet with a turban shaped like a bomb with a burning fuse.

In Kenya, police shot and wounded one person as they sought to keep hundreds of demonstrators from marching to the residence of Denmark's ambassador.

In Pakistan, rallies erupted around the country after prayers with some protesters burning foreign-made cheese and breaking windows while others clashed with police. The largest gathering was in the capital Islamabad, where 5,000 supporters of radical Islamic groups demonstrated peacefully in the center of the capital.

Thousands also demonstrated in Malaysia, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka, while smaller rallies were held in Indonesia and the Philippines. Some protested outside mosques while others marched on the diplomatic missions of Denmark.

In Egypt, thousands protested across the country and some clashed with police who tried to disperse them with water canons and tear gas. Thousands of Palestinians in Gaza protested, some firing rifles in the air while others burned Danish flags. About 2,000 Muslim worshippers marched in Jordan under tight security.

Many Muslims considered the caricatures offensive to Islam, which is interpreted to bar images of the revered prophet. The Danish newspaper that first published the drawings has apologized for causing Muslims any offense but the Danish government has said it cannot apologized for something done by its free press.

In Pakistan, Mian Aslam, a leader of a coalition of Islamic groups, delivered a fiery speech urging Pakistan to sever ties with any country where the drawings were published. The turnout in Islamabad was the biggest in Pakistan since protests against the cartoons began about a week ago.

About 2,000 protesters briefly clashed with police in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, where they burned foreign-made dairy products. The crowd attacked shops before they were charged by police. At least half a dozen small protests were held around the southern city of Karachi.

In Kenya, thousands of demonstrators, shouting "Down with Denmark!" marched from the largest mosque in downtown Nairobi to Kenya's foreign ministry, where they were expected to deliver a protest note. At least 200 demonstrators tried to go the home of the Danish envoy, triggering clashes with anti-riot police near a major highway, when one person was injured.

Israeli police in Jerusalem unsuccessfully tried to prevent protests by barring all men under the age of 45 from attending Friday prayers at the Al Aqsa mosque compound in the Old City, Islam's third-holiest site. Despite the efforts, about 2,000 women, young boys and older men marched around the Dome of the Rock shrine on the compound, chanting "Bin Laden, strike again."

In India, thousands of angry Muslims kicked, spat on and tore Danish flags and burned effigies in the capital, New Delhi, and in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir.

In Bangladesh, more than 5,000 Muslims watched by hundreds of riot police marched on Denmark's embassy in the capital, Dhaka, burning the country's flag and shouting, "Death to those who degrade our beloved prophet!"

In Malaysia's largest city, Kuala Lumpur, about 3,000 protesters marched from a mosque to the high rise building housing the Danish Embassy shouting: "Long live Islam. Destroy Denmark. Destroy Israel. Destroy George Bush. Destroy America!"

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi talked of a "huge chasm that has emerged between the West and Islam," particularly because of Muslim frustrations at Western policies toward Iraq, Afghanistan and the Palestinians.

Meanwhile, a U.S. official praised Indonesia and Malaysia for their handling of the controversy, saying the two countries proved that Islam and democracy were compatible.

"The protests dissipated fairly quickly and there was a public discussion of it," said Eric John, deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs.

Small demonstrations were also held in Indonesia, where protesters burned tires in one town.

Denmark earlier this week advised its citizens to leave Indonesia after its embassy was stormed by a mob and pelted with eggs.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard said Friday he considered the violent reactions to the cartoons "are completely disproportionate to the offense that could possibly have been given."

Again with "Death to America" and "Death to Isreal"....when neither party are involved. I think this gives the world a perfectly clear picture of just what level of idiots we are dealing with here.

That's how it is.. so before you come on here and tell me to put myself in thier shoes. I have and guess what everybody goes through shit in this world. .Why haven't the Christians called for the heads of South Park and The Family Guy??
It was a cartoon!! so now the idiots have the right to burn down a couple embassies and sing in the streets?? No. No I dont think so. Something will happen soon.. the Iraq war was a warm up for what Bush is getting ready to do to the whole region..

I really would like to go and see them, and then provoke a little bit. Show em my furry butt or something like that...

Re: More cartoon protests

I was very surprised at how much this blew up in the affected areas. in fact I was a bit bewildered that it was allowed to happen.

The Islam community really does itself no favours when a small minority of it carries out acts like this.

I live in Luton, UK which has an above average non-British population. There is a whole part of Luton that is solely occupied by 'Asian' people. I have seen religious/cultural friction on the front line here. The 'whites' simply have a problem with accepting the Asians. But in reality i think the real problem is that the Whites believe that the Asians only need one minor thing to be said about them before they will react, all in the name of islam, or religion, or whatever. It appears that it's okay because 'I was offended', or' he was taking th e piss out of my religion. Honestly their attitude really doesnt go anyway to helping.

I remember I applied for a grant to help pay my transport costs when I was at college years ago. I was turned down on the grounds that I wasn't eligible. Then I met an Asian guy at college who lived in the same part of town as me, exactly the same circumstances. he got the grant, and i couldnt help wondering 'was it because they were scared of offending him?'

World is messed up, I am starting to believe that the so called cynics who say that the worlds problems can be blamed on religion are right
I am starting to believe that the so called cynics who say that the worlds problems can be blamed on religion are right
I've been saying that for years. :D

Seriously though, look at all the hatred, division and violence that relgion causes in this world. The whole reason the entire Middle East hates Israel is becasue they are a different religion and stole their "holy" land. Yeah, that is a really good reason to want to "wipe them off the map."

And it really pisses me off that the rest of the world thinks that America is the one with the problem. So what if we are fat and greedy and self-centered and whatever other sterotype you want to label us with. We don't look for ANY reason to riot and kill and destroy and chant "Death to Muslims"..."Death to Arabs"..."Death to all non-Americans", do we?? Name one time that has ever happened. So fuck off with all of their blaming America for everything. This very instance, which we are in no way at fault for, but are still getting blamed for, just goes to show what has been said already...that they hate us and will take ANY and EVERY opportunity to demostrate it...whether we are to blame or not.

Whatever...fuck 'em. Let any of those assholes come over here with that shit and they will see just how fucked up your average American can be. You think beheadings are something?? I'll invent something new for their asses.

Re: More cartoon protests

reporting here from London. all the muslims are running riot. the bearded ones throughout the city are causing havoc, threatening anyone slightly scandinavian looking. packages of bacon have been contaminated with ground glass and bottles of Carlsberg have been smashed in off-licenses. if you see anyone in a turban with a big bushy beard, please do not approach. they may set fire to you. these people(?) are to be regarded as armed HIGHLY dangerous. they will declare a jihad on you if approached, then you're truly fucked. we have received warnings that the muslim women(?) are also not to be approached. if you see a walking tent alert the authorities immediately - who knows what kind of surface to air missile they may be hiding in there. also violent protests are erupting across the UK. police are issuing citizens with catchy "I am NOT a non-believer" t-shirts.

My Paris, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Berlin correspondents are reporting similar disturbances in their respective regions. Watch out for the muslims, we must join forces in the fight against Islam. (Ed- can you say that??) (Hos- I just did) I have also received reports of a spate of attacks on domestic dogs. Upon closer examination these were found to be Great Danes.

today's news was brought to you by your roving reporter Hos.

The spite really sets you apart my friend from these barbaric insolent people...you need to understand that if something like this happened 5 or 6 years ago there would be no uproar...the muslim community is already under threat and feels insecure with the way things are goin on and have been recently so why then why now...why not EVER before the Holy Prophet for the muslim people and his physical portrayal has never been accepted or promoted in islamic culture and by hose who practice it..his picture is almost non existant and if there are any copies or interpretations of what he looks like they are disregarded by any pure muslim. On the other hand the pictures and physical embodiment of Christ is everywhere and has been for very long. The american and other media sources have repeatdly used it for all sorts of purposes...there is nothing against it infact its cosidered religious to have his picture or cross or whatevr in the house or on you. There isnt really anything that the christians have to rebel against i mean south park and family guy have parrables of islamic people too thats petty stuff....its just that in this climate of so much spite and frustration and misunderstanding this sort of thing is really just uncalled for.... why fuel the fire....be the smarter bigger wiser one you claim to be you know what i mean..i dont mean you in particular so dont get sensitive...plus if you wanna look at christian violence against 'non-believers' look at history...the puritans who formed america and their followers...the native americans...hello?...the aboriginal people of australia..i doubt hitler has a muslim or a jew...i dont wanna get into this childish shit you know.. i respect the fact and agree that the extent and the way the muslim community SEEMS to react is really absurd at times..but remeber destruction of or against property is not violence...and the people who take to the streets and cause this 'havoc' are a minute representative....just cuz the television shows you the images over and over again doesnt necessarilly mean its a very accurate perspective...one of the foundations of islam is modesty..that in terms of moderation in everything you do...what some of these people are doing is against their own religion but it just goes to show how desperate they are to have thier voices heard and for people to recognize and acknowledge what they are saying..... when your demonstrating against something how can you expect to stick to a topic or keep a particular target in mind and only demostrate that...i mean one has to be bothered about sometihng to decide to spend that energy appealing and demonstrating for it so what if im at a demostration for no hot water (e.g) if i have electricity issues ill freakin shout that out aswell.....america will need time and a bit more to become totally accepted and not suspected by the people from the middle east or whatever that region may be that they occupy and try to control... i can only hope for peace..cuz thats all i want man...and i know being bitter is not the way..

You know I was the first to try get people to understand and accept, but I have lost the desire myself to try understand and accept. It is selfish for anyone to expect one party to do all the understanding while they continue to rampage, destroy, kill, bomb, threaten countries and people who had no part in this whatsoever, act like foolish gits, scream hate speech.....

I'm done with trying to sympathise when many Muslims show me that violence is their only answer to solving and voicing their dissapproval.

Re: More cartoon protests

Local, I have to disagree with this statement partially: a lot of the hatred against the West has been caused by it's mingling in Middle-Eastern affairs, but this is something on a different level. This is about simple cartoons that actually don't mean much to many Western people...it's the culture here mate. Muslims have a right to not like it, but that reaction of protests is really overdone IMO. Suddenly all we can be is evil, I have Muslims on a Dutch forumboard accusing us of everything that is filthy and wrong, and totally ignoring their own brutal actions.

That is why to me these protests seem so out of place...they just don't seem genuine, but more orchestrated to me.

It would solve more than negating the sensitivity and criticality of this time. Unfortunately, it's Europe/North America vs. them. They see us as just one and nothing else. It's easy for us to see it that way, but not easy for them.

Why would you insult a completely fundamentalist religion known for radical activities? Furthermore, why would you use freedom of the press and speech for the author's lack of knowledge? This was only started due to the widespread use of that cartoon in Europe. And according to their holy book, no visual depictions are allowed. I've had a lot of useful information to lay out for you. It's not my fault you can't interpret it correctly. No where did I mention any religious comparisons. Nor have I tried to spin this. I've merely pointed at you and other peoples impulsive actions as promoting more fervor then needed. I've made it clear that Europe manipulated freedom of the press without taking into account communitarianism and utilitarianism. I don't agree with the rioting, I don't agree with the death threats that were made, and I don't agree with the burning down of embassies. Nor do I think it makes them look good at all. But it was something that should have been expected in time of war, and that's the point you're missing. So why don't you go play with some glowsticks and enjoy some laser shows.

oh yeah. we'd be arrested and the world woudl brand us racist, closed mined violent criminals.
We're better than that of course, and obviously you and I both know it. However, they view us a hell of a lot differently than you and I view them. We've already been branded as racists and that shouldn't be anything new.

but i do disagree with your views on this one. but eh, it is your opinion, im just in the boat of how in the world does a society continually say they are about peace, but do the exact same opposite to anything that disagrees with them. no society since the era of the moors and nordic tribes acts so violently.

warlock ftw! I stopped playing for the time being. They don't need any more of my money.

There are 1 billion muslims in the world. Conservatively, 1-2% hate us and are for destroying our way of life. That's 10-20 million, and that's the 10-20 million we see only on television. And in all honesty, it works the same way for us. We have 10-20 million, maybe more, that are hellbent on destroying the middle east. Some might mistake me for a liberal, but I'm not, I'm a moderate and I take points from both sides. The danger lies within republicans and democrats.

Re: More cartoon protests

10 - 20 million that want to destroy the West - that's scary.....

Localizer, I know where you coming from and as I said earlier I have always preached understanding and acceptance. But even you must agree that at some point you need to leave that on the side of the road for abit and stand up and voice your own dissapproval.

Muslims are baying for blood because a depiction of Mohammed was drawn and as a result is an insult to Mohammed and Islam as a whole - well we can't be expected to all know that, we are not Muslim, we do not abide by THEIR laws or rules. Admittedly (and EVERYONE on here agrees) that maybe it was wrong and ignorant of the Norwegian newspaper to potray those images.

Whats wrong with peaceful demonstration, the world would have sympathised with them alot better that way. Instead they go on a rampage while demanding respect from us. How can you take them seriously? How can you expect the "West" to understand and accept when they have no intention of doing the same. That is clear to see in their reactions. We have educated (as in how the west works) Muslims in the "West" who are running around with posters with:

"Europe your 9/11 is coming!!" "Behead those who insult our Prophet!!" "Kill those who demean our Prophet!!"

These are people who have lived and been exposed to Western civilization, they know how we operate yet when the time comes they show us their true side - and that is filled with hate spech, death threats and other comments that paramount to terrorism.

I hate to generalise but seriously with 10 - 20 million Muslims calling for another 9/11 the figures are seriously against them...... and I do not like that.

When 9/11 happened, Muslim's around the world begged the "Western" world to not generalise and that not all Muslims were like that - I'm afraid that number has quickly diminished as more and more Muslims around the world raise their fists and swords at anything Western....

Understanding, education and acceptance MUST come from both sides for it to work. I've sat for hours debating this issue with Muslims in this country and the consensus is the same - "WE must understand where they coming from..." But I'm afraid the same is not extended to us....

Peace :)
