Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

Check out this story on Atta a year prior to 9/11 set aside by DOD lawyers and not allowing the FBI to arrest this guy even though the proof of Atta having ties to Bin Laden.

Curious to see how the blame for 9/11 can stay on the back of the Bush administration with the cover up of this Clinton blunder.

Now I only hope the Bush Adm. will seek out the lawyers and prosecute them for their role in this mismanagement of security information.

blah blah blah...

Why do we constantly have to look into the past? It seems as though the right seeks every opportunity to bring up Clinton. Why? What does it accomplish? I listen and read views from all sides in order to form as unbiased opinion as possible and a recurring theme among the Republican whipping boys (Hannity, Limbaugh, Ann Coulter) is that they just can't leave it alone. Clinton has been out of office for 5 years now, get over it.

Now, on to this new 'revelation'. It has yet to be substantiated first of all, so your cries of prosecution will have to wait. Secondly and most importantly, 9/11 happened - wake up! You think that by going back (if the allegations are in fact true) and prosecuting some pencil pusher will ensure that a security lapse will never happen again? Or do you think that by sending some intern to jail it will magically put the buildings back in their place and restore the lives of the almost 3,000 people that perished that day?

Wake up!

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

Monday morning quarterbacking, all of it. The simple fact of the matter is that both Bush & Clinton had opportunities to do things that would have made 9/11 less likely. Both obviously failed.

Actually attempting to place [b]blame[/b] on anyone for 9/11, however, is absurd. I can't believe for a moment that Bush or Clinton, or anyone for that matter, had information pre-9/11 that would have actually allowed us to do something to prevent it and failed to act on it.

As anyone that pays attention to this board knows, I think Bush is an absolute moron that will likely go down in history as among the worst presidents we've ever had -- but I don't hold him accountable for 9/11. As you may not know, I didn't vote for Clinton and, knowing what I know now, think he could have done more to fight terrorism -- but I don't hold him accountable for 9/11, either.

The guy I hold accountable for 9/11 is still roaming the mountains of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border a free man.

Nope. I was a card-carrying member of the college republicans back then. Believe it or not, I voted for the elder Bush and [gulp] Dole, and for the current jackass the first time around. As I think back on it, though, I may have voted for Clinton for his second term. I recall that I was never excited about Dole b/c I thought he was out of touch, and was literally undecided in the booth. I have a faint recollection that I might have broken down and voted for Clinton, but I honestly just don't remember.

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

i never voted in clintons second term, i though dole would actually die before the term was over, so i couldnt just vote against clinton. i couldnt vote clinton though as i saw what the market was about to do and how it was becoming so overinflated and, personally, i thouhght the little recession we had was going to be a lot worse. and for perot...... well just go watch an old dana carvey bit.

being republican isnt bad. its when they go too far is when we(citizens) get hurt.

as an CPA/Tax attorney, i can say fiscal repsonsibility is one of thier good traits. also a fan of small gov't. but thats about it.

I agree with you Sean - whole-heartedly. I'm just messing around, making a broad generalization. Anyhow, those are the 2 things that I'm a fan of although I don't think I'd say that Republicans as a [u]whole[/u] (especially this administration) are fiscally responsible.

Are fiscal responsibility and small government still republican traits? :NotMe: I haven't seen anything in the last five years to suggest that they are. That's why it drives me nuts when the sheep in this country say, "well, Bush is a republican, and I'm a republican, so I support Bush and agree with whatever he says," 'cuz this fucker is a republican in name only. Greatest snowjob in history, imo.

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

i hate those people too toasty. i didnt vote for him either because of those reasons as well. he is wasting money on a hopeless cause, and a cause that most americans arent even pulling for. also, he isnt quite as "transparent"" as his two predessors. even bush I had to raise taxes, he at least gave us reasons. bush seems like he is lost in his own downward spiral, he created it, and now he digs himself deeper. he should just go on TV and say this sentence exactly "" FUCK THIS, we are pulling out in the next week because the region isnt worth it and i fucked us all up, therefore i resign." i think the sound of the applause could be heard at the space station. let cheney wrap up the term as we all know, he is the one with the brains, albeit a quite sinister person. cheney actually might have to be more liberal with social policy due to his family. he is smart enough to control the money and relations with other countries as he is a better speaker and comes off less brash in conversation.

#460991Post 14 of 135

Damn Sean, never did I think that we would agree on a political issue let alone 2 posts in the same thread. :D Not sure that I agree with the Cheney part, but I admit that I honestly don't know much more than I've heard on the news, etc. so therefore I can't make an accurate assessment.

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

ska, i am farily centered, but i usually get pulled into playing devils advocate for the far right around here because too many people are blind far left. we all need to look how the other side think and we'll end up realizing that we need to come together. remember scaredawe? he was a huge michael moore fan and thought moore's films were giving everything as pure and absolute fact. he even thought the charlten heston clip from bowling was real, until we showed how it was edited between 4 different speeches(he has like 4 outfits, a few podiums, and different backrounds that moore fades out). every fact that a gov't critic or politician gives us can be countered with a different fact. they tell us what we want to hear at a time and place rather than what we should/need to hear.

if bush said from day one

  1. hussein is a murderer. he has killed people because of their sect of islam. he has actually destroyed the land and agricultural systems of midland iraq in order to choke out the dissidents without having to actually kill them. he has tried to obtain weapons, but he got rid of them once we said we would invade
  2. he is a major de-stabillinzing force in the region.
  3. frankly, we need to do something about the area to lower oil, because the worlds economy runs on it and they are hurting everyone.
  4. etc etc
  5. i have a vendetta.

rather than saying WMD's were sitting on a counter that is waiting for us to pick up, then the war might be justified a bit more. but he didnt.

people who have actually talked with me rather than drawing me into an arguement know i think pretty centered.

if i seriously had control of who ran this shithole, i would force the houses to be different majorities to balance each other, and the losing candidate would be VP. and the governers would act more like the cabinet, rather than letting #1 pick his own.

look today. worldcom officer(forgot name) just got 6 years for 11billion theft and scandal. im sure right now in NYC there is a young black kid who is being arrainged for 10 years for having 2 pounds of weed he was gonna sell to his friends. we let rapists off on light sentences when a guy who gets an involutary vehicular manslaughter serves as much time, if not more. we have people sitting outside jails in texas trying to keep people who commit multiple murderers alive when that murderer would kill them if they got in his way. we actually pay to rehab, feed, excercise, and parol those who hurt us. but we cant get a countrywide fund going to buy a building, give a homeless person a room, some education and a job. all that guy did was fail school because no one held his parents or him accountable when he was in school. instead we look away, or say no thanks when he asks for a dollar to get a cup of hot tea in january snow. but our leadership finds it OK to give over 200k per year to EACH criminal in our jails.(it costs that per person each year in NY). this whole country needs to look at itself. republicans need to move away from a militaristic state, and democrats need to move away from socialism and appeasement.

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

everyone on each side just wants the other side to come to them, rather than meeting up. in my experience, there is no way a republican should be running social policy here in the US(took until the middle of 1900's to realize that black people could actually think and act like a human), but also, there is no way a democrat should be putting thier hands in the markets. ever time they have, a small recession has taken place right after they leave office. (clinton and SEC reg's just letting companies tell us they were profitable when they were losing money). somewhere in the middle is the answer, but no one looks there, they just look to the other end of the spectrum for attacks.

i have thrown out this example before,.

democratic party is the party of the unions, but they are the ones who fought to have the WTO and NAFTA, the two things that killed the US labor force and sent jobs elsewhere.

republicans want to limit union power, but also fight to keep the jobs in the domestic unions hands.

we hear them fight how welfare is needed, and we need to lower taxes, but they deny it to those who need it, give it to criminals who dont even seek jobs, under fund it in the inner cities and over fund it in areas where the job market is booming.

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

fox, msnbc, cnn, mike moore, sean hannity, wolf blitzer, anne coutler, tucker, etc etc etc are the bane of the media nowadays. rather than simply giving facts, they call in everyone with an extreme opinion to debate, rather than discuss facts and look forward.

oh yeah, to add to the things i said about "if i ran this place" i would simply ignore the following. saudi arabia, iran, iran, palestine, isreal, pakistan. there is no reason we should even be there in the first place. if it got bad enough, eventually the people who buy the oil and actually have a reason to be there would voice their opinions loud enough to call for a change. just look at what the women are doing there currently. they are finally able to hold jobs and some are even running for office. the old regeims are cringing about it, but they will soon die off and lose power when the younger groups see that things might actually be ok, if not better. its sad, but people scream about how the US meddles, but if we just ignored the problems, eventually i think they would be begging for help on one front or another.

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

no way. HRC is the last thing we need. that bitch needs to realize she is an oppurtunistic cunt who is doing a terrible job in NY. she is a senator who has yet to even fight for a NY cause. definition of partisan for the last 5 years. she hung onto bill simply out of being power hungry. how many ppl would stay with thier spouse after 4 affairs. all she wants is the title of worlds most powerful woman, which opera will never lose, she should go inot talk shows. i could see her on a goodwil tour of africa and bill chilling on the beach in saint thomas getting a blowjob from a nice 22 year old laughing.

#461057Post 24 of 135

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

im just praying that john kerry never runs again, because HRC and JK are possibly the worst two democratic choices around. its unfortunate too, because there are some brilliant members ofthe party, but they havent been outspoken enough to garner attention. kuchinich and mccain are the only two politicians i can get excited to see voice thier opinions. they dont really bullshit, are forthcoming, and are anti war but admitted sometimes its neccessary. i hope one of them gets the nod.

i would love arnold too. because he knows he isnt smart, admits it, and calls in the big guns for the subject matter at hand. who else would have hired the financial genious of buffet to analyze the budget. i love the fact that he outright said, " i cant do it, but i'll bring in those who can." i also love how he calls out the bullshit that occurs in politics. i know cali is starting to lose a lot of favor for him, but he has come out and given names of all the people who are stopping him. it pisses a lot of them off, but more truth is out then before. people asked why the budget wasnt getting passed and he just named those who havent voted and named the 3rd parties that were lobbying for unnccessary BS. like i said, he knows he isnt smart in IQ terms, but he doesnt like BS, lets you know who is BS'ing, and calls the problem makers out, but he is just smart enough to fight like a dog for the people.

My thing with Schwartzeneggar is that, since he isn't a natural born citizen, he isn't eligible to run in the absence of a constitutional amendment. If we want to change the constitutution because we want to change it, so be it, but changing it for specific purpose of allowing the star of "Twins" and "Kindergarten Cop" to be our next president is fucked up. There's something inherently wrong with that, I think.

you got that right, but i still admire the fact that the man has a style of not giving a shit what his/thier party wants. he calls it like he sees it, and isnt afraid to alienate himself in an effort to attempt to help people. he knows he is a tough sell, and somehow he got people to buy in. he doesnt seem to run around a topic, he grabs it by the balls, holds it up, and shows everyone.

it would be histerical if we actually ammended it for him, then we'd have to go back and watch demolition man to see what else will happen in the future.

i dont agree with him on a lot, but i do respect how he handles what he tried to do.

You know guys, I realize you all have liberal and Bush hater pasted across your foreheads, but at least carry on a dialogue about a topic you don't agree with in an intelligent manner.

Skahound, then Toasty had something to say on this topic of DOD Lawyers not allowing the FBI to pursue Atta, but then the next 30 comments are totally all about 'self'. Thats a total copout, and obvious sign that the bias some of you carry keeps you from having any responsible thought process other than 'self'.

This is an important topic, whether Clinton had a hand in it or not, and yes how much did Bush know prior. If the DOD had evidence on this guy and knew that an active Bin Laden Terrorist cell was at work and hidden, then of course Clinton (and Bush later on) had to have been informed.

Why would lawyers not pass the info? Also, apparently there was a very undercover anti terrorist group working on this info and that is how that info came to be known. That group was disbanded later, and restarted under new management and a similiar but different name.

I'm sorry you guys can't find anyway to find this interesting.

Rob, you are right. This is an important topic.

What is really important, is that you either have a very short memory, or you are choosing not to remember the following:

  1. Richard Clarke, the former Terrorism Czar under Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush 2, told Condi Rice and her transition team that the single biggest threat facing the nation was Al-Qaeda. This was during the Clinton-Bush transition. After quitting in disgust he wrote a book about the way the Bush administration ignored ALL EVIDENCE that the Clinton team gave them.

  2. Paul O'Neil told Bush the same thing in early 2001. In fact, he became so frustrated that he too quit.

  3. 9/11 happened on Bush's watch. Not 35 days into his term, like the first WTC attack on Clintons watch, but fully 9 months in. In fact, Bush officials didnt meet with Clarke until 9/10/01, where they told him they were not interested in anything that came from the Clinton administration.

The funny thing about you Rob, is that every time there is a new LIE about how Clinton's penis is responsible for all our problems, you are the first one to forget all evidence to the contrary.

#461640Post 38 of 135

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

Back on topic - If the lawyers really did withhold data from the FBI to investigate Atta about the 9/11 plot then it needs to be reviewed and procedures put in place to correct this, so it doesn't happen again. It won't bring the people, WTC, or tragedy back; but let's try to prevent another 9/11.

#461645Post 39 of 135

Re: Clinton Administration ultimately responsible for 9/11

Rob thanks for some real input. I'm not going to say there weren't things that Clinton could have done to change the outcome but there were many, many more things that Bush's administration could have changed. Even the public muslim community was aware of the attacks before they happened, why wasn't our intellegence community aware. Or were they? Then the question becomes why wasn't anything done. The below is just a start, there's far more where this came from:

[quote]Late July 2001: Argentina Relays Warning to the US Argentina's Jewish community receives warnings of a major attack against the United States, Argentina, or France from ?a foreign intelligence source.? The warning is then relayed to the Argentine security authorities. It is agreed to keep the warning secret in order to avoid panic while reinforcing security at Jewish sites in the country. Says a Jewish leader, ?It was a concrete warning that an attack of major proportion would take place, and it came from a reliable intelligence source. And I understand the Americans were told about it.? Argentina has a large Jewish community that has been bombed in the past, and has been an area of al-Qaeda activity. [Forward, 5/31/02] People and organizations involved: al-Qaeda[/quote]

[quote]Late July 2001: Egypt Warns CIA of 20 al-Qaeda Operatives in US; Four Training to Fly; CIA Is Not Interested CBS later reports, in a long story on another topic: ?Just days after [Mohamed] Atta return[s] to the US from Spain, Egyptian intelligence in Cairo says it received a report from one of its operatives in Afghanistan that 20 al-Qaeda members had slipped into the US and four of them had received flight training on Cessnas. To the Egyptians, pilots of small planes didn't sound terribly alarming, but they [pass] on the message to the CIA anyway, fully expecting Washington to request information. The request never [comes].? [CBS News, 10/9/02] This appears to be just one of several accurate Egyptian warnings from their informants inside al-Qaeda. People and organizations involved: Central Intelligence Agency, al-Qaeda[/quote]

[quote]August 2001: Russia Warns US of Suicide Pilots Russian President Vladimir Putin warns the US that suicide pilots are training for attacks on US targets. [Fox News, 5/17/02] The head of Russian intelligence also later states, ?We had clearly warned them? on several occasions, but they ?did not pay the necessary attention.? [Agence France-Presse, 9/16/01] A Russian newspaper on September 12, 2001, claims, ?Russian Intelligence agents know the organizers and executors of these terrorist attacks. More than that, Moscow warned Washington about preparation to these actions a couple of weeks before they happened.? Interestingly, the article claims that at least two of the militants were Muslim radicals from Uzbekistan. [Izvestia, 9/12/01] People and organizations involved: Vladimir Putin[/quote]

[quote]Early August 2001: Government Informant Warns Congressmen of Plan to Attack the WTC Randy Glass, a former con artist turned government informant, later claims that he contacts the staff of Senator Bob Graham [D] and Representative Robert Wexler [D] at this time and warns them of a plan to attack the WTC, but his warnings are ignored. [Palm Beach Post, 10/17/02] Glass also tells the media at this time that his recently concluded informant work has ?far greater ramifications than have so far been revealed,? and, ?potentially, thousands of lives [are] at risk.? [South Florida Sun-Sentinel, 8/7/01] Glass was a key informant in a sting operation involving ISI agents who were illegally trying to purchase sophisticated US military weaponry in return for cash and heroin. He later claims that in July 1999, one ISI agent named Rajaa Gulum Abbas pointed to the WTC and said, ?Those towers are coming down.? [Palm Beach Post, 10/17/02] Most details apparently remain sealed. For instance Glass claims that his sealed sentencing document dated June 15, 2001, lists threats against the WTC and Americans. [WPBF Channel 25, 8/5/02] Florida State Senator Ron Klein, who had dealings with Glass before 9/11, later says he is surprised it took so many months for the US to listen to Glass: ?Shame on us.? [Palm Beach Post, 10/17/02] Klein recalls getting a warning from Glass, though he cannot recall if it mentions the WTC specifically. He says he was told US intelligence agencies would look into it. [WPTV, 10/7/02] Senator Graham later acknowledges that his office had contact with Glass before 9/11, and was told about a WTC attack: ?I was concerned about that and a dozen other pieces of information which emanated from the summer of 2001.? However, Graham will say that he personally was unaware of Glass's information until after 9/11. [Palm Beach Post, 10/17/02] In October 2002, Glass will testify under oath before a private session of the 9/11 Congressional Inquiry, stating, ?I told [the inquiry] I have specific evidence, and I can document it.? [quote]Early September 2001: Rumors in New York City's Arab-American Community About Attacks A veteran detective involved with post-9/11 investigations later claims that rumors in New York City's Arab-American community about the 9/11 attacks are common in the days beforehand. The story ?had been out on the street? and the number of leads turning up later is so ?overwhelming? that it is difficult to tell who knows about the attacks from secondhand sources and who knows about it from someone who may have been a participant. After 9/11, tracking leads regarding Middle Eastern employees who did not show up for work on 9/11 are ?a serious and major priority.? [Journal News, 10/11/01][/quote]

[quote]September 6-10, 2001: Suspicious Trading of Put Option Contracts on American and United Airlines Occur

A. B."Buzzy" Krongard. Suspicious trading occurs on the stock of American and United, the two airlines hijacked in the 9/11 attacks. ?Between 6 and 7 September, the Chicago Board Options Exchange [sees] purchases of 4,744 put option contracts [a speculation that the stock will go down] in UAL versus 396 call options?where a speculator bets on a price rising. Holders of the put options would [net] a profit of $5 million once the carrier's share price [dive] after September 11. On September 10, 4,516 put options in American Airlines, the other airline involved in the hijackings, [are] purchased in Chicago. This compares with a mere 748 call options in American purchased that day. Investigators cannot help but notice that no other airlines [see] such trading in their put options.? One analyst later says, ?I saw put-call numbers higher than I've ever seen in ten years of following the markets, particularly the options markets.? [Associated Press, 9/18/01; San Francisco Chronicle, 9/19/01] ?To the embarrassment of investigators, it has also [learned] that the firm used to buy many of the ?put? options ... on United Airlines stock was headed until 1998 by ?Buzzy? Krongard, now executive director of the CIA.? Krongard was chairman of Alex Brown Inc., which was bought by Deutsche Bank. ?His last post before resigning to take his senior role in the CIA was to head Bankers Trust?Alex Brown's private client business, dealing with the accounts and investments of wealthy customers around the world.? [quote]September 10, 2001: Alarm Bells Sound over Unusual Trading in US Stock Options Market According to CBS News, in the afternoon before the attack, ?alarm bells were sounding over unusual trading in the US stock options market.? It has been documented that the CIA, the Mossad, and many other intelligence agencies monitor stock trading in real time using highly advanced programs such as Promis. Both the FBI and the Justice Department have confirmed the use of such programs for US intelligence gathering through at least this summer. This would confirm that the CIA should have had additional advance warning of imminent attacks against American and United Airlines planes. [CBS News, 9/19/01] There are even allegations that bin Laden was able to get a copy of Promis.
