Anyone seen this on Sky? or whatever the US equivalent is...thought the plot was average so far...but the women...copious amounts of exposed breasts everywhere...and some great great looking babes. Anyway...I will be watching this...for a while :)

Re: Game of Thrones

Downloaded but haven't seen it ... I'm interested because I read fantasy books but the series are way too heavy for me to get into, so this could be a good alternative.

This is on my to watch list, along with Camelot.

Re: Game of Thrones

I'm curious how long this will last even though a second season's been confirmed. Can't imagine this being popular or well-rated.

Re: Game of Thrones

I've watched every episode so far and it's been pretty good. With all the characters it can get a little confusing as whats going on. Definitely tons of boobs though.

Re: Game of Thrones

I watched three episodes last night on demand, I loved every second of it. Also helps that I am a science fiction & fantasy nerd.

i don't care about criticism; the fact that hollywood is making another killer buster, in my favorite genre, makes me :) must see

Re: Game of Thrones

I'm quite enjoying it at the moment. I just hope they don't uncover a plan to release some biochemical into the general public.

Re: Game of Thrones

Great series. really portrays the bruatality of man's history quite well (the politacal side anyway, not so much the dragons and white walkers, etc.). A lot of the story is rooted in history(war of the roses, house Lancaster vs. house York, Dothraki warlords as mongols), Some things they have done quite well in the HBO version, other things, not so much. Definatley recommend the books to anyone that likes fantasy, and Martin announced recently the 5th book is released in July, guess I'm re-reading this, again. Game of Thrones IS just the tip of the iceberg.

Re: Game of Thrones

Nice Miguel. i'm re-reading the 2nd book now(prepping for book 5). the new hand does a bang-up job, makes you wonder what ned was doing the whole time. i reallly lovd this series.

#1517082Post 23 of 147

Re: Game of Thrones

Ned was hardly the crafty character needed to get things done, he was simply the most honorable man the king could trust.

Apparently in the book, the chick walks OUT of the fires with the newborn dragons? When I saw the show, I didn't understand why they faded to black and showed the next morning, I also didn't get why she would walk into the fire, there didn't seem any lead up to that decision. I actually thought she wanted to die with Droga.

#1517107Post 24 of 147

Re: Game of Thrones

I haven't watched the last episode yet...will comment when I watch tomorrow. In the books she does walk out of Drogos funeral pyre with the hatched dragons. She was convinced the dragons would be born with enough heat and the heat wouldn;t burn her. She was also aware that her mind may have snapped, if so this would be suicide. Regarding Ned, very true. The new hand is better at playing the game, though.

#1517109Post 25 of 147

Re: Game of Thrones

Ah ok that sorta explains her walking into the fire ... I guess a lot of shit going on in her mind that couldn't be expressed explicitly on TV short of a voiceover.

When the series first came out I read the first book and stopped because it was too slow. So I'm not going to bother now, the TV show will be a good summary

no kidding? first book is a prelude, 2nd really picks up and 3rd is a crescendo. who do u like feather? some of my other favs, pratchett(discworld), gaiman, zelazny, and classics(milton, virgil, homer)

#1527937Post 33 of 147

Re: Game of Thrones

GoT came out around the same time as Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen so I preferred the Malazan series for the action and epicness. That said it's become very hard to follow the series, I'm having difficulty reading The Crippled God, need to find a series summary somewhere :(

Otherwise more recent writers, Patrick Rothfuss I highly rate for the writing and story, Scott Lynch for plot and action ... I read Joe Abercombie's First Law and thought it was alright, overhyped really.

Gaiman and Zelazny are my favourites too, huge huge fan; pretty much read everything Gaiman from the comics to the novels. I do wish he would stop the distractions with all the other stuff and concentrate on a meaty novel like American Gods or Neverwhere again.

I assume you would've read Zelazny's Amber chronicles, did you read his Lord of Light? One of my fave scifi.

I'll add Moorcock's Elric of Melibone to the list of classics.

Re: Game of Thrones

Yes, Chronicles of Amber still one of my favs! Lord of Light was excellent as well. Agree with the sentiment regarding Gaiman, write! Loved the Sandman series. Will have to check out some of your other authors as well. You read Good Omens? Great intro to Pratchett.

I just started watching this. I'm on my fourth episode now. It looks like a great series! :) I am too lazy to read the books though.

Yeah I read Good Omens, I read the early Pratchetts but grew out of them. I also read Gaiman is beginning work on the American Gods sequel, plus the original novel is being turned into a TV series.
